So, what do you guys do vs Bisons? Scissor pressure on the ground and really good footsies makes this one maybe my worst matchup outside of Sagat. I would offer some insight of my own, but I have none.
Space him out with backdashes so you can maximize your ability to attack with anything in your arsenal. Don’t be predictable with sparks. wait for him to relinquish his charge before sparking. Attempt to cross him up if his c.lk links aren’t solid, or he doesn’t scissor you afterward. focusing c.lk, backdashing, then jump in/poke is possible and viable.
when the battle gets close range, be ready to tech, or ex spiral when you SEE the grab/heavy poke coming.
Bison’s s.HK beats just about any of Rose’s poke attempts except c.mp when used as a preemptive strike.
Use slide sparingly.
Actually, I say use slide often. That only thing he can do is either scissors kick, block for the rest of the cross up, or jump.
It’s guesses because you hav ways to figure out to beat allof that.
Do not get hit with ex stomp.
99% it will cost you the match.
Um, Bison s.HK will beat slide, psycho crusher will beat it, it’s ultra food, scissors beats it. all these things can be done on reaction if you’re not using slide vs bison’s wake-up or after landing a normal with good recovery and hit stun.
I slide after applying c.lk pressure cuz in that scenario, it almost never loses. I’m more wary if c.lk is getting blocked and Bison has an ultra, though.
I fought a bison who was using S MK as his main offense and he was very succesful doing that. It pressured me to a point where I had almost no options. looking at the frame data though, I don’t see a difference between that and S HK. So I wonder why it was used. But it worked well. Stuffed the slides too.
and true at the EX stomp comment I hate the 50/50 on wakeup, where I will choose between attack or straight jump because he can do EX crusher as reversal against all ground attacks. When i straight jump he burns it, but when he EX stomps I lose like, what, 200?
Now that I think of that I should crossup in that suituation, but then I cannot fake a throw attempt anymore.
I wonder though. If a meaty c.lk would recover in time to block a EX PC or EX SK on wake up.
Frankly, the best advice i can give against Dictator is…
Head Stomp < j.mp. Some people swear by J.hp…i dont trust it. I find J.mp to be godly air to air if you do it on the rise.
EX Headstomp…Dont risk the chip or CH. This move is a beast. Backdash and punish, however it may be.
Scissor Pressure…You shouldn’t fear it too much…Bison in this respect plays a lot like rose. You should know better. Remember, if worst comes to worst…ex drill beats scissors.
Headstomp games…If you see the follow up after Headstomp, remember you can Ultra, FA, or ST that.
Wake up Game…Pressuring Bisons wake up game is your BEST tool. Seriously…a Bison can be knocked out of the game from one KD. That’s your goal. Make him throw out reversal EX PS, and punish hard. Make him think to tech throw and sc.mk. If you see a devils reverse, dont be afraid to slide > Throw. C.lk is amazing for rose on wake up for her pressure. Learn to combo from this, as it can really start messing with a person waking up. If you’re not going for a tick throw, c.lk, c.lp, c.lk > c.mp xx Ex drill. Then sprinkle a tick throw in there… Bison can teleport back…but…stay on top of him. His Pokes are no good unless far…
So Kail, that’s the theory, how good are you in practice with that link? I’m inclined to think that 1-frame links that burn EX are reserved for the top only. Because I don’t hit that often, and not only risk a painful reversal but also always lose one useful EX bar for my reversals.
clk to clp is 2 frame, clk to cmp is 1 frame. Use plinking, u’ll hit it like cheese. I do plink on a pad, shouldnt be that hard on a stick heh.
While the c.lpx2, c.lk, c.mp, EX spiral is doable, there are often times when my spacing will not permit the link. either c.lk or c.mp will whiff. this mostly happens vs crouchers, but now I’m starting to think that it’d be best just doing as much damage as possible while sparing meter if possible.
is there a video on how to Plink with pad? Ive tried to plink following the Stickied Thread but had no luck, i get it more often double tapping.
Well, I don’t really know why he was using it more that his roundhouse but as far as I know s.hk tend to whiff on crounching opponent, you have to be pretty close to hit, while s.mk has a great range.
So basically for me it’s s.hk to poke standing opponents and s.mk for the crouching ones, maybe it was the same for him.
s.hk is used more to prevent people from jumping rather than actually hitting people. bison’s s.hk basically rapes dive kick happy rufus in genera, as it prevents them from even leaving the ground without hesitating.
also, for this matchup, i say victory lies with the person who gets the first knockdown. both bison and rose have similar tools at their disposal in this match, the difference being that bison doesn’t have any sort of reliable AA, where rose has cr.hp and soul throw (beats all headstomps). you should also NEVER jump, unless it’s to cross up/you’re planning something intelligent (the simplest it should get is jumping to cross up.) now that rose has U2, i suggest you use it asap, as it will help deter the bison from doing anything stupid, and will give you some leeway while they’re out. try to get the bison to burn through as much of his meter as possible: bait out the ex headstomp (soul throw) and the ex knee press/psycho crusher (instant cr.hp xx soul spiral)
Judging by your signature, I feel like I can’t trust your advice.
Yeah I saw somebody post that before and tried ex-soul throw vs ex-head stomp in a match and got half of my health taken away.
Anyway, I just started playing rose like a week ago, but whenever you have a headstomp happy bison you can stuff their headstomp with neutral j.hk and you can slide under their punch followup as well. You might also be able to c.mk or c.mp under their followup…haven’t really tried it yet. Aaaand if they use any scissors other than lk then plink c.mp when coming out of blockstun and you’ll pretty much always hit them.
haha, yeah when I read “beats all headstomps” I’m assuming he’s not talking about sf4, cause I get stuffed everytime.
i guess i’m doing something wrong, because 1) i grab headstomps all the time and 2) my headstomps get grabbed all the time
unless they changed it up in Super, EX Headstomp beat out EX Soul Throw in Vanilla.
Regular headstomp v any version of soul throw is a different story though.
EDIT: tried the EX headstomp bit and EX Throw beats EX headstomp pretty deep in. Basically after the EX flashing ends is when Rose can EX throw. Otherwise EX Headstomp still beats it.
It really seems like everyone is having trouble with this matchup. I’m just not sure what to do against the corner scissor traps other than block. Can’t really get an opening with any of her normals except for crouching light kick occasionally.
that’s what his cornertrap is about. he is in a 60-40 position at this stage. you need to block-block-block and read his mind correctly enough to pull out an ex-drill. else, stay on his ass like kail said.
I was fighting the number 1 Bison of Europe in endless after he destroyed our entire team in team battle.
Was a close game, and I used slide ALOT after stuffing his headstomp. The problem is getting trapped in a corner. You can’t really seem to do much once youre in that position. Ex drill might get you out of it if you’re lucky but it’s also risky as hell.
Definately my most hated match-up.
