Rose Strategies and Match-ups

Well that depends on how you’ve conditioned the player. My guess is that there isn’t enough time for him to walk backwards (possibly if he’s trying to lame you out) after a blocked spiral to catch your jump in with normal headbutt. I bet jump back fierce would be more of a problem though.

hmm maybe you should try some focus backdash to avoid chip damage and him building meter. Also for repositioning.

Question about Rufus, when knocked down and they spam those dive kicks whats the best way to get out of it? I know i can either Ultra if timed correctly or ex soul throw but when i dont have those does a specific soul throw take him out? I ask cause i met up with one who stuffed the hell out of me and i dont get to play many rufus at all.

Also about Sim. I had prob the worst match against him this weekend. Just kept getting fireballs and then a tele behind me and just got stuffed everytime. Now i can time a focus without the fireballs but with it i dont know what i am doing wrong. Whats the best defense against this?

Thanks guys

The idea is to just not let him start that in the first place, but once he’s on you there’s no “you do x” option, nothing is going to always work. Yeah, if you have meter, you can try an invincible EX or you can try to hit him out of dive kick startup (with a jab, strong or whatever), or you can backdash. Thing is, depending on the situation, not all of these will work, and it’s a guessing game in his favor, as it should be since he got in on you and that’s the type of character he is.

If the Rufus spam the dive kick repetively, u can shut it down with a St.MK, or FADC and backdash farfarfar! Also, if u get a knockdown, u can meaty C.HK or C.MK him, the EX messiah will whiff/or u’ll have the time to block and punish.

Against Sim, its better to send a fireball when he fireballs, coz a Sim can TP when u are in the animation of reflect to do his shit. Then just go forward slowly, trying to corner him.

Ok thanks guys, will practice on those.

Oh…yeah, if they’re -just- doing divekick over and over then lol yeah you can get out of that, it’s not knowing for sure they’ll do another one that’s the problem…when you’re fighting someone that knows more about what to do than “hey let’s spam this”

Well Rose has a few up close options that work well. I’ve used normal soul throw to counter a dive kick. It’s all a matter of the angle and height rufus is diving at. if he’s diving in attempt to counter a low poke, or when you’re crouching (so right in front of you), then soul throw will work (as far as I’ve experienced). But if he’s diving on your body or head (where it looks like he’s going to cross-up), then soul throw is out of the equation. Possibly even EX.

You might be able to trade with a dive kick from that angle and point in time, or backdash on reaction to make it whiff. I can’t say for sure. I play Rufus also, but a lot of how I play against him is still experimental, so I encourage you to do the same.

Also when you knock Rufus down, don’t be afraid to safe jump on him - specifically cross him up. He has a huge hitbox which makes almost any jump-in with MK ambiguous.

And Vince; against that Dhalsim setup, if time allows, your best bet is to inch in on him and wait for him to fireball. Sometimes sims teleport in anticipation of you reflecting, and you can jump back and hit him as he’s warping in while evading the fire. It might be tempting to reflect yoga fire, but you gotta use it sparingly, or if you’re trying to establish an offense.

Like say he’s trying to lame you out and you reflect a fire. he uses fire against it to knock it out thinking you’re gonna stay back, but you forward dashed and could either jump on him, or ex-spiral. Also FADC spark is a pretty good option if the moment is fitting. Sometimes it’s worth sitting back and waiting for the teleport to knock him out of it while taking a trade from his fireball cuz at least he’s in close proximity.

Oh you can slide under yoga fire also. that’s won me at least a match.

A tatic that i have had work on sim is to backdash the fireball and then reflect sometimes if the sim player tries to anticipate ur reflect and TP he will get hit by either the reflect and the fireball at the same time or by the reflect with the fireball following up closely making him have to block on wake up even though ur still full screen away and sometimes the fireball will just catch him. I wouldn’t focus on doing this consistantly but it has worked for me from time to time. I wish i could find away to make this happen more consistanly.

Thanks for the tid bits, now its a matter of practicing against some sims to get used to it. Only get to play them once a month due to only knowing players who use ryu and sagat. But now i know one so will be able to get some matches in.

you don’t play online?

Abel notes pl0x.

Roll vs Soul Sparks gives him free grab.

I think Rose is on lock down in this match.

S.mk is ur bff vs Abel. Ambiguous rolls on wake up are ass tho.

Abel is too easy to beat. S.MK beat everything but ex COD.

I hate when the Abel I play mashes out EX grab.

Once I’m down, he gets a free grab on me too.

but I do s.mk and he still beats it with Ultra and EX CoD. -.-

s mk beat Ex TT and normal TT since she’s unthrowable, there’s only ex cod and ultra that beat it yea… but wakeup ultra… lol.

The Abel I play always does wake up ultra when I s. mk.

Lol.

It’s really funny when an abel blocks s.mk and then throws you right after.

not if u do 2 s.mk lol.

you can’t do 2 in a row unless you walk up to him to get in range again. otherwise Rose’s far AND vulnerable-to-grabs MK comes out. learn the game, son.
