In my personal opinion, s. lk (close or far) owns Abel because it has decent priority and stuffs his Tornado Throw everytime.
that sounds exceptionally risky for just a little damage with no combo ability, and just to stop somebody from doing big damage on you. but whatever you feel works for you is great. I just don’t think I’d ever try that to intentionally stop a throw. Maybe to apply pressure, or to knock on his focus attack without being completely vulnerable to the hit.
New tier listing out.

Most of that looks right, though I would probably put 6-4 Akuma and 5-5 vs Bison. Not quite sure about 6-4 against Abel yet, but sc.mk does cause him alot of problems.
EDIT: never mind, read the match wrong. 6-4 Abel makes much more sense lol.
I dont know about that list…
I just cant see Rufus being a 5-5.
strange. Sagat and Abel are 6-4 matches, but Blanka is 5-5.
Oh well. It’s good to see Rose has gotten some more respect. :china:
I suppose it’s more of a moan really… but after playing no-one else but Rose all the way up to G1, I’m now losing matches left, right and centre with her. If it’s not overdrive on tick throwing Ryu/Ken, it’s TS/TK/H.Kick Sagats.
I know it’s the way that I play… I don’t tick throw, never have and never will as I’ve always felt it was… I dunno… wrong. Do I have to actually go down to this method rather than using skill to beat people in G1? Or do I have to switch character? XD
how is using tick throw a ‘go down to this method’? Rose doesnt have overhead, if u dont use tick throw, how do u deal dmg against safe pple?
Err. You’re not playin SF if you’re not using ticks.
Apologies. I wasn’t really thinking when I posted this as it was about 8am before going to work. XD
I think this stems from playing fighting games in the arcades in my local area for so many years, it’s been somewhat frowned upon to tick throw. I guess, somewhat of an honour system. It’s been with me for… well, well over 15 years. It’s not dirty fighting, as you can foil a throw attempt… I see that I’m only holding myself back.
Now, how to break that habit and add tick throwing into my arsenal?
'how is using tick throw a ‘go down to this method’? Rose doesnt have overhead, if u dont use tick throw, how do u deal dmg against safe pple?'
Admittedly? A combo of rushdown and defensive baiting. More often than not I pressure the opponent with blockstrings, into backsteps, then running back which most of the time causes my opponent to come to me. I do my best to cause my opponent to make mistakes that I can capitalise on. Doesn’t always work, but then, I’m not perfect.
I’ve still got more to learn.
I think you’ll adjust pretty quickly to G1 competition (I’m basing this on the beat downs you’ve given my Rose lol). Don’t quit on her yet! And yeah, here’s another vote for not feeling too honorable to tick throw. It sounds like it’d add a pretty strong mixup to your game since opponents will be expecting those blockstrings you’re already using.
Another effective method of breaking people’s guard is to tick -> sc.MK especially if a person is really good about teching. Sure you can’t use this all the time or else people will just continue to turtle on you. that’s one of Rose’s few mix-up abilities, but it’s worked more than once; so hey, it’s a mix-up.
Only problem is that Rose’s throw range is better than her sc.MK range. maybe from point blank you can tick once or twice before being out of range for sc.MK.
Also, sc.MK is really great to punish people who tick throw, or just throw in general. it’s just not as safe as teching.
And don’t worry if you just recently joined G1. It really is a big jump from G2, same as G2 was from G3 for me (lol). In each class, I’ve learned so much since the one before. who knows what I’ll be like in SG :wow: lol, I still have a long way to go, but I can hang with them.
There is no honor system in fighting games. If someone gets hit with something repeatedly, it’s their fault, not yours. There are exceptions to this in bad fighting games or really horrible matchups, but even in “I’m cornered and I can’t do anything” situations, you’re the one that allowed yourself to be cornered, right?
Hi Rose users this won’t take a minute.
I have a few survey questions for Sakura Forums Research.
WE are keen to know the opinions of the vs Sakura match up across the character forums.
[]What’s the best approach to beating a average/good Sakura player?
[]How do you beat a defensive Sakura and how do you beat an offensive one?
I’ve only fought two, one match each. What’s a defensive Sakura?
Oh, hey… I didn’t think ‘beatdown’ was the term I’d give our matches, as I’ve learnt a few things from them. But yeah, you’re all right… Ticking is in the game, I guess I just get wound up as I never expect my opponent to do it due to my own hangups… and getting hit with it a lot annoyed me to no end, lol.
Right, I think I’m back on track… keep with Rose, learn, adapt and shamwow! Heh, I think I needed the pick-me-up… the last two weeks have been crap. Thanks everyone!
These questions demand a lot of depth, and (I must throw this generalization out) all match ups get defensive and offensive. There is no strictly defensive player/character, because they’ll either lose to time out, or chip damage. Everybody swings.
With that out of the way, let me just sum up how a fight typically goes vs sakura. Keep in mind all of this is online play, so lag inevitably becomes an issue.
Most Sakuras don’t bother with using their fireballs. If they do, it’s not essential to how they play- even if it might be a good idea.
A lot of Sakuras I’ve played tend to jump often. This leads into predictability and therefore, getting countered.
Sakura’s normals are terrible as far as range is concerned, so to get to the point, I win most of my matches through pokes and other methods of baiting and trapping. If I don’t win, it’s because Sakura got in too deep on me, and was allowed to combo into mix-up into potential stun.
Thank you guys. I have been frustrated many times at the range of Rose’s normals. This info is great and I’ll quickly report back with these findings. Thanks so much
Utilize slide (it beats out most, if not all Sakura’s normals). Be careful though, Sakura has an AMAZING FA.
You will always beat Sakura in a fireball fight, and keep soul throw handy cause she doesn’t fall down that fast.
From there, BnBs and watch for Ultra :o.
do you yall ever use Cl.Hk for anything i mainly use it for a nice anti cross up that where it shines to me but it only works if your not KND. What about cr.lk that junk is lovely its +3 on hit +1 on block so i use it to interrupt sometimes and try to combo into cr.mp usally can catch a combo or a counter hit.
I didn’t plan to main Rose at all but it ended up that she fits my play style so I do main her.
Rose vs Sakura. Hmmm.
Rose will seem to have the advantage.
What Rose has to do is zone Sakura out with Soul spark, soul throw(not reliable), EX soul throw, Standing HK, 6 HK, Slide under her jump ins is helpful too.
Rose also has the ultra which can shutdown alot of Sakura Rushdowns.
What Expert Sakura players will want to do is close-in and do her crazy ex hurricane kick to Mix-up game. If you can zone her well enough then you don’t have to deal with this crazy mix-up.
Sakura does have a couple advantages beingthat Rose lacks a decent quick anti-air. So basically if Sakura player knocks down Rose then Sakura has a big advantage as oppose to other characters like Ryu. Jump-ins are freebies after knockdown with Rose for the most part.
It can be dealt with by just guessing right though.
TLDR: Zone Sakura out so Sakura does not close in and do her mix-up games.
