Rose Strategies and Match-ups

yea i’ve done that focus cancel against a few different people.
My favorite is doing FADC’s on fireballs against a waking up Seth. Because it goes full screen they love to toss the ultra out there. Also, playing as Abel and Rose, I’m very cautious about throwing out my ultra against fireballs if the enemy has 2 bars to cancel and is good enough to do so. I do it a lot to people as abel, and its very satisfying. That abel was kind of dumb though, he tried to ultra and did EX Falling sky instead, and rose cancelled that fireball. Basically he knew what would happen, and yet he did it again anyway. Deserved to eat that.

Nothing like losing to DSP, having it filmed and knowing i would have won had i just canceled my fireball =/ Never again!

Here are some quick Abel notes:

-You want to stay out of his face as much as possible and use alot of hit and run. One command throw or COD combo lands you into crossup -> mixup territory and you don’t want that. Fortunately Abel doesn’t have a great reversal of his own and has problems against crossups. Slide is pretty good against him since it avoids his Crack Shoot move and it recovers fast enough not to put you in trouble if he rolls.

-Standard Abels will just try crossups all day to get you into throw mixup range, just focus and backdash out. Even if you take jab/strong attack damage in the process, it’s alot easier(and mentally less taxing) than trying to guess the command throw/poke mixups.

-Advanced Abels(or at least those who figure out this matchup) will start using his pokes(s.lk, c.mp, f.mk) since they do a pretty good job of stopping her pokes. If you find yourself blocking them, let them push you out and get back into half screen range. If you don’t have advantage don’t try to push the issue: you can’t afford to be knocked down.

-EX COD is a good anti poke move, and it will be one of the primary ways he will use to get in. The other ways are c.mp-> COD xx FADC, his forward kick-> dash, and sweep->Crack Shoot. Look out for those and GTFO.

-There isn’t really a trick to throwing him out of his roll, you just need to have good reaction time. I’m not really sure if his ex roll has different properties, but people usually don’t ex that(they save meter for FADCing COD or ex COD’s).

–jab SS in general aren’t bad at full screen range, and SS ->FADC’s are a great way to get in or to force him to do something or tempt him to ultra.

I play Rose shes fun i know this may be a little shocking coming from me but i think shes a solid char I have gotten wins consistently on Marn(Abel) Arturo(Sim) and others with Rose …Her footsies are awesome i got some nice tricks after her throws to

One of the big points in Abels mind in this matchup. Whats so tempting about it is that Rose’s fireballs in general move slowly. Its either you use the LP fireball and you get slow with quick startup, or the dreadful Mp/HP fireballs and get faster movement but longer startup.

I’ve since learned the lesson about which chars to bait into ultra’ing. On the other side as abel, i will take note of your Super meter before attempting to Ultra through a spark. if you are 3/4 screen away many Abels will be buffering qc’s, so def don’t do anything if you see that. Or if you do see that SS FADC back, and you should have all day to wrap the scarf around his arm.

Also, beware of him at full screen with ultra. A decent trick we do as Abel is dash – ultra. throw the dash out randomly because the other person thinks they are safe to fireball from full screen etc

So Bison is my worst matchup still. His normals are sooo gooood. Getting better at the Rog matchup. It’s gay as hell, but he has a hart time getting in on you actually if you play right. ESPECIALLY when you have ultra. I just gotta stop falling for EX Messiah Kick spam from Rufus and I got a good idea of how all her matchups work. I need to try and finc a camera to take with me to MWC since I apparently lost mine Had a gdlike session with some friends last night. Leveled up a bunch!

Chun Li is my worst match up by far. She stuffs a lot of my pokes and her mix up is pretty solid. I really need some practice against her. I can’t get in consistently and do damage.

Anyone got any tips or strats for her? My win rate against her is constantly tanking every time I meet one…and I always seem to find the good ones…

1.) I found that MP Soul Reflecting her walk-in fireball generally stops most Chun-Li’s short term plans.

2.) Don’t crouch and camp waiting for her to jump in for c.HP; it won’t work, she has one of the meanest overheads / cross-up on approach.

3.) I tend to throw a LP Soul Spark, dash forward and hope she jumps over it forward, and hit her with a c.HP (since she was too far to use her execution jump-ins.

4.) I tend to forego the cross-up attempts alltogether because of her EX wakeup, and the fact that she can jump towards you, meet you in the air, and air-throw you with higher priority.

5.) Repeatedly jamming c.MP (or c.MP into Soul Spiral) or using slides judiciously tends to surprise Chun-Li players. Hit throws from slides work reasonably well if they’re not conditioned to spamming jabs.

I usually do ok as long as I remember that her sweep is better than my pokes. Drill is a fine tool against her, and her jumpins never surprise so they can easily be countered. I stuff her offense with ex drill when it gets too rough.

Too bad that once she has EX, no wakeup attack plan is possible. The one yesterday also seemed invulnerable to sweep as punish against it. Have to find better punish after blocking or dodging it.

maybe spark or slide in? I know you can slide into all thunder theighs (I forget the name of the rapid kick move) undamaged, and against normal SBK your slide will go right under. I live and die by the slide!

vs Chun-Li is one of my favorite match ups by the way.

Hey guys, i just need a few quick pointers please, best punishing combo and best block string plz

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=192569 should have some options for you.

I am having a lot of problems with the M. Bison matchup, too. At least it’s fitting when you consider the storyline! She just can’t win against that guy no matter what, huh?

The wide hitbox of Illusion Spark goes a long way when Bison is mixing up the head stomps and Devil’s Reverse and all those air tricks.

My 3 toughest matchups are Bison, RAWG, and Blanka. I can win against all 3, but I have to put in SOOOOO much work.:annoy:

Chun is mad free sometimes. You just gotta get the ball rolling ASAP and she’s toast. Neutral jujp hp >>>>>> reversal bird kick.

Also, I faild you guys. I only got 25th at MWC because I decided to go retarted a few matches. Funny thing is that except for a few people who I never got to play, I beat most of the top 20 easy as hell!

THEY JUST DONT KNOW!!!

[quote} Just got back.Good times, good games.Marn, DSP, Keits, Luigibo…all had some fairly impressive play. Luigi’s rose is freaking crazy good.I’m sure someone may post the brackets and crap, I wasn’t really keeping track. [/quote]

  • Via Parabellum

Actually, replace Blanka with Sagat (wtf was I thinking lol)

NOTE - For those who don’t knoe, or don’t use it, jumping lk is GODLIKE!!!:pray: It’s sooo good for no reason lol. It can BEAT SAGATS STANDING RH CLEAN. Only catch is that you have to time it just right or you’ll trade and get rocked.

Hopefully, I’ll be able to upload a couple of my scrubby matches this week. All my good ones didn’t get recorded (go figure)

Aha, pretty sweet. I’ve been wondering if I can do any fuzzy guard shenanigans with jLK, gonna go try it out now actually.

that’s good news Luigi. Here I was thinking my only approach to Sagat is sliding into him… too bad nothing stronger is willing to beat his RH. does the same go for his FHK?

Any other stuff that J LK beats? Looking for a counter that at least trades with:

  • lariat
  • blanka ball
  • honda headbutt
  • srk (its SF4 now)
  • flash kick

if anyone knows good counters for each of these, please share. Well, maybe I’ll make a thread just for this.

J LK beats flask kick. At worst it trades. It loses to the EX FK.

Jumping lk will beat his EX flash kick and it will also beat Guile’s ultra and super. Rose’s jumping lk will also stuff Sagat’s ultra and super as well as his TK.

Every time I’ve tried it I always get stuffed by the EX flash kick. I’ve never even traded hits. I’ll have to try it on the other moves you mentioned. I’ve been trying out the J LK the past few days, and it surprises me how well it’s been working.
