Rose Strategies and Match-ups

False. EX soul throw gets beat by lots of stuff. (example: cammy’s dive kick)

:d::hp: works most of the time or you can slide under (:df::mk:) then grab

I usually only jump for crossups and straight up to avoid FBs. Against gief, I found that at about 3/4 distance you can hit him out of his lariat with j.:mk:.

DS, B-Izm and rbgUnknown

No I don’t have any vids up. I refuse to go back to SD and hook up the VCR.

i hate playing online thougth there’s certain thing i can do offline thats not possible online and siometimes i lost the match becasuse of that one thing the game is more about crossups and avoiding DP’s then about spacing online. Lag spikes let people in all the time, however offline they actually have to work to get in

That’s any game man. You guys should know better. If you play online, lag is a given, and shit’s going to be different/scrubby.

I’d still say it’s better practice than fighting the computer, but nothing can replace offline comp.

Whenever I play a good Blanka, I get my ass kicked. I have no idea how to handle him.

Play defensive and at max range most of the time. Control the match with SS and FAs. FA any slides and watch for EX balls thru ur SS. You can also FA jump ins but its kind of risky since Blankas jump is so fast.

Once you have Ultra you can punish any balls. Just block them high and Ultra immediately.
Unless he’s right up on you, you can stop his Ultra by either using your own or with an SS.

I’ll try to put up some of my Blanka matches soon.

Man, once again depressed.
Played ayaimmortal’s dictator and lost something like 25 straight.
Holy crap I guess this is a time to learn focus, because you sure as hell aren’t anti airing him out of headstomps.
Match felt even worse than fighting boxer, pokes were getting destroyed, scissors made me second guess any gaps in his pressure.

Bison is her hardest matchup IMO. Scissor kicks give her major problems.

Word? Bison doesn’t give me much trouble. I actually WANT him to come after me. ANd for the head stomps, it’s east to just jump back and j.hk him out ot. Yea it doesn’t knock down, but it’s better than nothin. And c.mp beats kicks if I remember right. If you’re good with SOoul GLlow that helps A TON as well. THe main thng that annoys me with bison is his fruity lk up close. THey shoulda left that shit in ST lol. I’ve played a bunch of nasty Bisons and it’s easily winnable, it just takes a lot of patience on your part. Fuck up and you eas stupid damage. You almost gotta treat it like the GEEF matchup in a way. Just take your damage a lil bit at a time until you get a guaranteed combo or crossup.

I don’t have much trouble with Bison either. You can just dash away from headstomps too… So when he lands, free combo/throw.

It’s Balrog that is the biggest bitch. Sometimes I don’t know if it’s just one of Rose’s really hard matchups or Balrog is that just that good. Everyone says they have trouble with Rog though.

Good Rog players and Gen make me sad.

Fighting a good Balrog with Rose is like smashing your head into a brick wall over and over again.

I’m having trouble with Ryu’s that turtle. My fireball reflection just isn’t good enough to favor me, especially when they vary speed and have super meter. At best that is a stalemate. If I try to jump in, I get DP’d. If I close to medium range, I am vulnerable to fireball spam or nasty jump in combos. Yea, I can try c.HP, but it seems to trade or lose with them enough (bad timing or spacing will make you lose) that the nasty combos I get hit with when I lose out make up for the higher priority of my c.HP. If I go on the offensive and crossup, reversal DP unless I time the jump perfectly. If I don’t get my combos just right, I get reveral DP’d. Just seems like an uphill battle.

Even against DP spamming scrubs, it just takes a couple of mistakes for them to seriously punish me. So frustrating to lose to SRK spammers.

granted my friend Zoob is not the best Boxer around but he did play Boxer in ST and he’s learning him in SF4, im not pro either but if you watch the macthup, i keep him aways by using my cr.strong, SS, and when i have Ultra i shut donw a lot of Boxer’s options. Keep in mind that these matches are offline, online the mathcup is different because of lag. I’ve also have played good Boxers like DS and I went about even with him, i dont think the matchup is that bad. Sagat is defenatly a pain in the ass

I’ve been fighting an excessive number of shotos and beat them the majority of the time. Here’s a few observations I’ve made (and keep in mind I’m certainly open to any criticism about these as I’m looking to improve my game).

Cr. mk. works quite well against Ryu, but don’t go for the sweep his beats yours on priority.

Cr. mk, drill, cancel to super if you have it. it’s a quick easy way to punish a SRK whiff, and will outdamage anything a Shoto player like that can throw out.

And the j. mk. will go through the SRK and still do damage to a Ryu or Ken. The problem is you’ll only tie at best so be careful with this. A little damage for a Sham-wow is great, but you certainly want to avoid taking too much damage against them as ex SRK hurts.

And when Ryu gets knocked down move away and throw a lp. soul spark from a distance, it has a good chance of punishing the SRK wake up safely. Sham Wow is also a good idea.

Finally, Rose has great throws damage wise, and that’s always a good option against turtles.

Absorb is far better than reflect for fireballs, and even then going for the j. mk. into a combo is better if you’re in range.

I hope that helps some.

Yea, I actually started to do a bit better, at least against the spammer scrubs. I’m getting more practiced at spacing/timing the c.HP anti-air. At max sweep range it works well and I also have the threat of the sweep to keep them on their toes. And when they back themselves into the corner, it’s really hard on them. I swear, I faced 100 kens today, and they all did the same noob shit. Just j.HK/sweep and shoryuken spam. I think I saw one person even try to use his f.mk command and kara throws. That’s about it.

I also just stopped trying to cross them up. Not worth it until I can get the timing down better.

Here’s the problem I have with cr. mk, drill: often I will accidentally do the slide, which doesn’t combo, and I end up eating a shoryuken to the face for my trouble. Of course that’s usually on a jump in or cross up, which is mainly what I’ve practiced. I’ll have to work on starting it with c.mk. Thanks.

P.S. Took the advice against Blanka. Played a decent one, and I did really well against him.

Why would you poke with c.mk over c.mp?

It has better range.

Nice game! Great to see Rose put to use. Loved your poke into drill into super, that’s epic  Also your constant buffering of Ultra scares the hell out of him.
The end of vid3 is also scarily close  Bet he hated the guts out of your C MP and ultra though.

Any reason why you never use the sweep and F HK? is it too punishable?
