GGs metroxylon. You’ve inspired me to pick up rose as a serious secondary. So you beat my zangief a handfull of times, I think this was the key to how you did it???

A major factor was doing EX-SoulThrow on wakeup to stop the crossup that really impressed me! This is definitely a key to the zangief matchup I didn’t know it would work but now I see the light lol.

But you’d have to agree that it’s a dreadful matchup for rose since I don’t even play zangief (I was just playing monkey-see monkey-do on the ones that own me all the time) and we still were fighting semi-evenly.
I wasn’t expecting to fight a really good zangief, you are probably in the top half of online zangiefs tbh. I guess it’s possible for an expert to interrupt slide-throw. in theory one could probably go from slide to s.mk, but a lot of it working comes down to if the slide was blocked or not. and risk/reward.
Also I actually jump away more than s.mk, which results in me getting hit with spaced c.lps and such.
Also I use slide more on reaction than as an opener. so either during a lariat, or their jump-in to counter it, or evade-throw it.
Zangief is either my 2nd or 3rd worst match up (Gen and Seth being the others). I am definitely getting better vs him though. It’s just been such a brutal process. Vs you were my first matches of the day btw :looney:
corners are my weakest area to fight from. I either jump vertical, or ex spiral/soul throw, rarely focus attack, or hail mary ultra. by the way, there were times I was trying to ex soul throw you and either nothing came out, or the ultra (wasted) did.
Try more preventative measures so you won’t end up right against the wall like evade sliding, or slide-backthrow.

When you slide under a jump in do you get some kind of advantage that lets you throw? Or could you possibly eat SPD? Evade throw is null a good zangief will never just “throw” only SPD (again I wouldn’t consider myself a good zangief!)
Seth I can agree with but Gen? I think it’s more inexperience than a bad matchup. A lot of people have trouble w/ gen just because they are shocked and don’t know what to do vs. him.
Corners are when I throw in the towel with rose vs. zangief. There is really no effective way to get out without eating significant damage. The crossup is so ez to do and so hard to stop (like you said), so I guess you just need to not get stuck there in the first place.
Also, in my eyes, throwing zangief EVER is a bad risk/reward trade because you have to do like 2-3 throws to make up for the damage of 1 SPD, yet the odds of you eating SPD rather than throwing are much greater than 1 in 3 or 1 in 2. A blocked drill also results in SPD right? I was getting you w/ it but maybe you were trying to poke when you coulda jumped? Is drill safe against zangief? Focus Attack is also obviously a big risk.
So basically in conclusion, I still think the matchup is heavily in zangiefs favor (especially if the zangief is good) and that rose has to take a lot of risks just to win a round. I wish I recorded the matches because thinking back on it I still can’t remember exactly what it was that happened which caused me to lose
Never slide at close range at Gief. You have to position yourself so that only the tip of Rose’s foot hit’s him. If you do, you’ll have the frame advantage on either block or hit, then you can follow up with s.mk to stuff his SPD attempt. If the standing mk doesn’t hit, it will push him back out of SPD range and you reset, at which point he’ll probably try a green hand to get back in (or EX green hand if he has meter) in either case EX soul spiral beat’s them both.
You should throw slides out of the window in this matchup basically unless it’s gonna kill him. Even if you do it at max range and it actually hits you’re still closer to Gief than what’s comfortable. It’s not really a great anti jumpin tool either since his j.mk has stupid range, and it will usually hit her slide if she uses it at that range. If you do slide in, either jump back, s.mk, or backdash(the latter two are subject to ex hand though).
Good move to finish the round, but be really careful otherwise.
Gen isn’t a super hard matchup, but against a GOOD one you need to play pretty careful or you’ll get aced. I’ll probably write some notes of my matches vs JiBbo if you guys want it.
Slide-in is a big risk, so I don’t use it as a staple attack by any means. maybe once or twice a match as an attack. if you use it to evade, I think you get the frame advantage if the gief does a jump attack and not an empty jump.
Yeah I checked and Zangief is my 2nd hardest match up, with Gen at 3rd. He’s mostly there out of inexperience, and you can’t really tell what stance he’s in until he hits you with something.

If a hit slide is -2 on hit, that means that Zangief will go for the SPD and should connect. Maybe Wibble meant a close mk, which is a jumping kick…which means you cant be thrown…

I need CraptacularOne or Saqs to beat me down even more so I’m used to dealing with Rose’s random recklessness on the other end. CraptacularOne (and you from your comment) exposed a very glaring weakness and poor habit of mine which is to make crossover attempts too much when I don’t feel confident in fighting short range.
I got really scared of your slide-ins and short-range drills that kept tagging me that I didn’t want to stay on the ground anymore!
