After playing more, I agree that your vehicle choice does make a difference. More in actual interaction with the ball than handling, as we discussed regarding hit boxes.
I have yet to unlock a single decal for Paladin. The new car up there is great. I’ll be sticking with it.

Day 1 of vacation was all about rocket league. Until now, when I have to do laundry and wait for this phone call.
Played a huge set 10-12 games, same people, rematches every time. I think my team won more than lost. I chilled in the goal and played well, fucked up a couple of times and boy do you feel stupid when your whole focus is keeping the ball out of the net and you just totally whiff on the ball… Only happened a few times though.
When I was playing offense I focused on flying, shits fun.
Not sure I love the coliseum arena. The lack of seeable wall really fucks up my perception, other than that I love the aesthetics of it.
e: oh and I had to swap my halo out for the tri-cornered hat to rep the buccos.
Man this game hates me. Every game i play i lose because the other team get the most random/luckiest goals of all time. Im the only one willing to stay in goal and that shit is so boring i get maybe 2 saves a game if im lucky, and the moment i inch out of the net the ball bounces off the wall and over my head and into the net every single time. I hate losing to random shit. It legit cakes me in salt and its really hard to wash off. No amount of juice takes it away either.
Those are my favorite ones to let in.
Inch out a bit and all of a sudden the other team turns on the auto-aim and does the most craziest shit ever to land the ball in the net while im out of position. When I am in position? They miss by a mile. Every. Single. Time.
Lol and thats what triggers my rage. I mean i dont take the game serious but im not a fan of losing to dumb shit even if its just for fun.

I played 3 games earlier. I scored the only 2 goals and we won 2-0. Then I played with a troll who was deliberately self-scoring. Next game, I had a teammate that was constantly ramming into me. Turned the game off.
Looking forward to getting that pro rank and leaving these assholes behind.

I’ve gotten used to being the only defensive player so much, it feels really weird when I actually run into someone who also plays with some modicum of tactical ability.
Still, defensive doesn’t mean staying in the goal. I like to hover close to the center line, ready to dash in if I see a clear ball, but backing up once I see the opponents start to take control. And you’d better believe that I follow up if I’m starting a quick counterattack from a clear ball.
I figure that if someone actually manages to lob a high ball right into the goal from the opposite end of the field, fast enough that I can’t get back to the goal first, they deserve that goal

Yea im out… Fuck this game. The inconsistancies make this game enraging. People blow me up by just touching me with no boost. I hit someone full on full boost with boost still left and nothing happens. People hit the ball super hard by just barely tapping it and it goes max speed, i hit the ball the same way and it goes like 3 inches… Like everything i do is 100% the complete oposite of everyone else my car is a fucking marshmellow.
Oh yea, howbout that game starts and my entire team cant spawn in and the other team gets an auto goal because theres no one spawned to stop them… Fuck this game it can go fuck its self… Yes im extremely salty
seems like a ps4 issue…I just played with buddies and it happened every game on the ps4. Never had that shit happen on pc.
I won’t lie like I have a easier time tracking shots in 60 fps than on consoles. Then again I’m more used to PC version more likely.
Also I got into the habit of adjusting my height even slightly when hitting the ball to clear or in general. Doing tumbles straight off the ground when the ball is in the air, often just sends it at a slow but high angle since you’re probably just going to hit the bottom of the ball and slap it, and waiting for it to hit the ground is just asking for a trade. The slow/high angle when defending isn’t too great when it leaves another opportunity for your opponent to fly in and setup/take a shot again, worse yet if your the only one in your team capable of flying a bit and you’re the goalie.
Much more consistent at this after I started working on flying, getting cleaner hits and have a better range of shots that I can control.
I’ve only experienced being spawned post-kickoff once or twice. I HAVE experienced spawning RIGHT when the game starts. I also sometimes see the other two cars just standing still.
I could swear that I’ve accelerated blindly and already been on my way towards the ball by the time the camera panned in on me. I think when this happens, the game spawns the car and puts you in control, but the camera itself just doesn’t get to you on time for some reason.
EDIT: And yes, this is on PS4.
I will add that this game is much funner once you accept that it isn’t always fair and there will be bullshit goals. I mean, I’ve been both on the receiving and, ahem, giving end of the kickoff ball bouncing randomly off one of the dueling cars and perfectly and quickly flying right into the top of the goal, at a pace where the goalie would have to be psychic to even try to get it.

Take a break, come back, and see how you feel. This is the most fun I’ve had playing a game in a long time. I’m quite surprised, since this isn’t the AAA kind of game I’m usually drawn to.
…However, the graphics and production are quite good.
