You play a little too far back on defence at times though, almost as a defacto goalie, rather than playing around half field, to knock in loose balls. So often I’d centre the ball, teammate is out of position, and you’re too far back to come knock it in. Your goaltending is magnificent, however.
Do that when I am unsure of teammates. Rather sit back and have two of you play with the ball then to have my own teammate knock it into our net or pass it to the other team when im going for a shot.
You generally do that when you either have no boost or momentum of the ball will shift to your opponent’s soon.
If your team mates has control of the ball and your opponents don’t have much opportunity to really land a clean shot, you move in accordingly and move back when your team is slowly losing possession. You’d keep an eye on the field and the positioning of both teams for this, often times you’re watching the players, not the ball.
Always try to be in a position where you can easily intercept the ball before it lands when your opponent gets a clear and keep it on the other side of the field * moving up doesn’t just mean you’re to get a shot on the other goal*.
If you’re too far back then you can’t really do anything to clear it and you’re stuck in the goalie position where your opponent likely still has possession. Which leads to a potential mixup opportunity vs competent players.
This isn’t soccer, the “goalie” can move way past their boundaries… AND CAN FLY. You’re a mobile wall and not tied to the goal post.
Though if you have a bad team then yeah unfortunately momentum will generally always be in your opponents favor and you’ll constantly be pushed back whether you like it or not.
yeah, I play a little past mid, so I can easily steal boost nodes on the side, and do shit like rebounds, as well as smash goalies out of play if you notice somebody in the net dedicated to saving a goal. SOOOO many people seem afraid to hit other people, it’s hilarious.
I played hockey all my life Joshkaz, no need to worry about my dedication to playing somewhat responsibly, and setting people up. I love driving up a wall to launch the ball into the centre lane. I came REALLY close to getting a rocket goal that game, too. I’m a dick when I’m stationary. Just blocking dudes, double jumping to fuck people up, and bicycle kicking the ball back to play.
I will attempt to be sober and conscious at that time, but can make no promises. @Joshkaz you got time for a match or two tonight?
I’d like to get three of us on, and not have to worry about a shitty third teammate dragging us down.
FYI I didn’t mind getting obliterated last night while playing with debalaser or whatever. Kinda fun watching him learning the game, and constantly putting the ball into our net. LMAO.
How do you save your replay after a match? Or does it just auto save some of your recent matches? I’ve made some insane saves, and crosses from the top of the wall or roof, and rocket boosted goals, and wanna start being able to see them again, or make some vids.
yeah when I saw what you did on the replay, I was shocked you didn’t. I kept making crazy setups, off the walls and such, and nobody ever capitalized
I’m a fucking assist machine in that game.
You guys need to drive into the goalies more, though. Too often the ball is right next to the net, and people are just waiting for it to land. I smash into fuckers, clearing a path. Fuck getting the ball. Even better when it just trickles in, afterwards.
Yeah that’s the best time I’ve found to go at the goal. Right after a centering pass from a corner. I’ve hit multiple people waiting in front of the goal doing that.
Even if the keeper jumps and dodges you he’s still out of position and a recovery to make a save on a hopeful shot would be really impressive.
@Joshkaz, as a goalie how do you deal with that tactic?
Depends on the positioning, but ideally you’d absolutely need a team mate to cover for you if it’s timed perfectly and your opponent has another team mate ready to hit the ball in while another is charging at the goalie at the same time.
Not really feasible to dodge one and block at the same time while at the goal, would be pretty fortunate.
If it’s not perfect, then you could fly for a shot at clearing or blocking while dodging a tackle. Really dependent on position of everything so there’s never really a easy answer aside from a team mate coming in from the side to deflect the ball during the set up. Generally the answer to a lot of difficult setups as a goalie.
