Rocket League: The Official Thread

Generally, I find you should have two guys in net, one to deal with the ball, the other to deal with incoming hits. Most smart teams will have one guy in the corner setting up centre attempts, one guy playing goalie who floats around half court in order to knock in rebounds, prevent clearing attempts, and air boost into the ball, and one guy who basically should be floating around as an inbetween…making setting up corners if the corner guy misses or gets blocked, or smashing into goalies/players if the corner attempt is successful. Yes, I’ve put way too much thought into this game already.

I usually keep an eye out for that one guy on some teams that makes a bee-line directly to the net whenever my team enters their zone, and if I see a chance for my teammates to score, I’ll sometimes fly in and smash into a goalie.

We scored a few goals last night where a centre attempt that rolls around the corner boards/sidelines (for lack of a better term), would just trickle in because I had smashed into their goalie, and nobody was in position to keep it out.

Playing hockey in addition to soccer really opens up a fuckton of options for me in this game. Especially when you get rid of those pesky hockey rules, like no hitting people without possession of the puck/ball, and no hitting the goalie because he’s in your way, or no hitting people just because you really want to hit them. I am absolutely shocked at how many people think this game is Sunday driving, and go out of their way to avoid hits, or get literally pissed the fuck off when they get hit. Suck it up bitch, and hit them back harder.

How exactly do you make cars explode? I’ve hit people and blown them up, and sometimes done fuck all. Dunno if it’s damage related, as I’ve been blown up, respawned, then blown up immediately by getting hit again within a few seconds.

Hit them square while you are at full speed.

You know you’re full speed when you have the blue vapor trail coming from your tires.

You know how after about 40 boost your car “booms”? If you make contact with an opponent while in that state they go boom. You can get to that state by using only tumbles as well, but at that point you’ve traveled most of the field and haven’t been able to precisely turn so it’s less useful.

gonna have to explain this a little better

U got this for PC or PS4, fuzz? I need some clarifications on the first post, if it isn’t already.

ahhhh…you can hear that shit, too, and feel it in the controller a little.

What do you mean by ‘hit them square’? Gotta be a dead centre hit, or enough of a good one? I’ve had dudes glance off, and yet I’ve had dudes I barely caught from behind, and killed em.

Yeah, I’m not sure exactly… I only say that because I’ve been full speed and hit someone from behind and they haven’t demo’d. I think I glanced off them because I was either too far off center or I hit their car at an angle, like the center of my bumper to the corner of their car.

The main thing is the speed though. You just need to figure out the feel of it. Just go like you want to hit the shit out of them lol.

Oh and to Fuzz’s point about tumbles: you don’t need to use boost to get to full speed since forward dodging, hold forward tap ‘jump’ twice, gains speed but you’re going to have to be psychic or incredibly lucky to catch the right speed and the right heading to hit an opponent like that.

Is the ball in the air or is it just sitting on the ground? If it’s the air then go for an aerial shot to block, and knock it out of your side of the field. Ground you’ll need another teammate to help, or if there’s only one guy going for the shot (the guy whos doing the miss ball to hit goalie instead), then I’d say make a guess and just go for the ball, or react to him going pass the ball, and jump + Boost towards ball.

Also depends on positions of everyone else on the field. Where are the other 1-3 (Depending if doubles or standard) opposing vehicles? Are they near, or is your team keeping them occupied? Is your team near, or are they dicking off else where? If they’re near then it’s easier to deal with since you’ll have the help of a teammate going for a side shot at the ball, or just hitting the opposition itself. If Dicking off, or the other team is just in a good position (Guy coming for you, one guy going straight at the ball for an easy goal, etc.), then you’ll need to just go with what you think will be the right choice.

If you’re at full speed past the super sonic breakpoint to be exact and your opponent is past a certain speed breakpoint, he won’t explode iirc, i’d have to check myself to be sure… but from what i’ve witnessed, if your opponent is just below super sonic or somewhere along there, he won’t blow up though would be subject to the physics of the game where a faster object tackles a slower/similar speed one at whatever angle.

Probably some formula or a simple set of rules that dictate what allows demolition.

Anyways in some cases you’d actually want to just chuck them in the air for 5 seconds or longer to the other side of the map rather than demolishing them and having them respawn nearby. The air time a car gets from a high speed tackle that doesn’t demolish is still very significant or in some cases better than actually demolishing. I’ve seen dudes getting chucked at a 45 degree angle to the other side of the map, he was practically out for like 6-8 seconds from trying to regain balance.

Even nudging a goalie a bit might fuck his chances up since positioning is really important for blocks or flying.

@RadicalFuzz sighting!

I just had a killer game. I think I scored 870 and got a direct goal on a kickoff. At the end, me and 2 AI teammates took the game.

@Vynce are you on gay non Killer Instinct having PS4, or manly PC?

demolition: https://steamcommunity.com/app/252950/discussions/0/537402115095063455/

so yeah, you guys can do it with speed burst (don’t even need full burst, since this guy and myself have done it off the opening burst), and with double flipping forward, or whatever you call it. What i don’t understand, is do you need to be bursting already to go SUPERSONIC and demolition other dudes, or can you do it without boost? Sounds like you can hit a certain top non boosted speed, and pull it off.

Watching @Joshkaz play goalie/defence in this game, is like trying to fuck a girl in a threesome, and the other dude is Mandingo. Also Brian Pumper and Mr Marcus are in the background laughing at your every pitiful failure. You just feel so useless in comparison.

Just wish you’d come like 20 feet forward when the ball is in their end.

I’m on PSN, to not-answer your question B)

and yet you just did

sissy

Who is sober enough to carry me? I’ve given up playing Hearthstone it requires too much attention. I wanna smash some balls.

You can reach super sonic via front or back flipping once you get past a breakpoint in speed, or even getting hit by another player.

3 front flip/backflips from neutral position iirc gets you to that break point. I like boosting a tiny bit and then doing one front flip to reach super sonic, saves boost and time.

I’ve read Rocket League may eventually end up on XB1, so you’ll have 3 games to play on it.

Stay on topic ;(.

That’s what I was getting at. It felt like I could boost/flip (or the other order) and take guys out mighty quick. I wanna learn the exact science behind this. Rocket League Fatalities ftw

As it should. I wonder how much longer until we just get all games cross platform. Probably sometime this gen. My buddy made his buddy buy this on PS4 based on playing it on PC and hoping we could play together. Fat chance, sucker.

Somebody come play with me on PC. Gonna go smash it up now, for a couple hours.

When we get a third I’d feel more comfortable. Can’t trust the wild card.

im on

Played a game just now, we go up 1-0, then one teammate disconnects, and now it’s 3 on 2, and we fall behind 3-1. So I go all out, score a sick goal rolling around the boards, and then score an amazing flying goal. 3 - 3. Then my teammate suddenly calls me a fucking coward over the mic (dude sounded in his 20’s, too). I think he is talking to the other team, as I just scored an amazing goal, but whatever. I see the dude typing angry shit into chat too, but assume it was directed at the others.

They get the ball, and come at us, and I go in net, and make two nice saves, but eventually miss a save and let a goal in, and the dude just goes off on me. Listening to that colossal man baby cry like the bitch that he was, was the highlight of that game. That and spending the rest of the game ramming into him and blocking his shots. Fuck, I wish save a replay would save his white whine.

sweet jesus, why do some people feel the need to hit the ball, just because they can? Play smart for fucks sakes. Fucking teammates boosting balls out of the opponents zone, or stealing shots away. Or dudes who call defence, then go offence immediately.

fuck me, this game is rage inducing.

Third goal on an empty net, i ask why our goalie keeps leaving, and he starts name calling. How about play defence, retard, you’re not a superstar.

Every time we get multiple empty net goals because my teammates seem to think all three of us should be in the same corner, ignoring rebounds and opposing players and PLAYING FUCKING DEFENCE, why is it every time you say “can you guys play some defence instead of just offence?” you get the same “why don’t you?” reply.

ok no problem, net’s empty now, I sure as fuck ain’t guarding it the entire game because you can’t get back past the half court like the fat slob that you are.

Who’s down for smacking some balls around?
