Rochester, NY Thread (Spring 04/05)

 You’re cooooooooold-blooded. That reminds me of that other dude’s little speech on how he was unbeatable. What’s Jamie up to now in her post-Frontier life? Jamie, your wife, that is.

Brad, who are Josh and Jamie 2 playing nowadays? Can your Dizzy still hold them off for the most part? Wondering if I-no is still in use for Jamie. I am trying to think critically again on the game mechanics, will try your setups some time tomorrow, but I find it annoying to have to keep a button held as I play. Bridget got something like that too with the yo-yo.

Oh, yeah. I checked GCC and it was gone so I assumed that the GG community was completely dead. Who runs Dustloop? I was reading it and was really glad to find an archived version of that old GG systems page, still a must-read for every semi-serious player.

Thanks for the stick info, I’ll pass it along. Psycho should take a look too, I think he’s waiting for an Hori stick to release or something.

That “dude” was so tanked on pain killers he didn’t know what he was saying.
That & the damage to his spinal cord kinda had something to do with it all too.

My wife is working @ AC Moore arts & crafts, she’s a manager of sorts.
She likes it.
I’m looking for a job, but nobody wants to hire a cripple :annoy:

By the way Gary email me your address, it’s for a good cause

No, no, the other dude from the barn and his words on James. We already know you’re always hopped up on goofballs. Are you off those yet?

mei181 at gmail, have at it

Jamie plays Testament. I dunno who Josh uses. Chaz plays a really really sick I-no. When he plays me and gets a hit in, it turns into a combo movie thanks to Dizzy’s huge hit box and the way she floats.

As far as holding my own, short answer is not really. Haha. I did really poorly the first gathering and didn’t win any games except against Henaki. Last time I managed to get a few wins in here and there, and Chaz even mentioned I was less rusty. But I would definitely say that these guys play on a level above me. But it’s practice I guess.

Tragic runs Dustloop. Same guy that ran GCC.

Haha Barnage. Talk about a blast from the past.

Who’s Chaz? Did I ever meet him?

Turns out psycho’s roommate is Pete, aka the angry Axl dude at those EGS meetings. Took me a few visits to realize that, sadly enough. Pete’s high school buddies with Henaki and co…funny, huh?

I thought Dizzy’s hitbox was shortened? I miss extending combos on her. I used to attempt unnecessarily flashy combos just for Dizzy, like multiple Axl rensen loops (that included every possible hit) or 3+ Millia air loops of no damage. She’s fat, laugh out loud.

/wave, hi all, brad where in nyc area are you? bobby how’s maryland, carl was asking how you have been, randall theres a group of kids that play third strike over in the crappy apartpents new the road block sewer area of RIT. anyone going to anime boston? take care everyone

I don’t think you played Chaz. He used to play Bridget back when I played at the Break and I might have mentioned him to Wilson.

Hey Ira, I live in Rockland. From the GWB, you take the Palisades Parkway north for about 20 minutes and that’s where I live.

Again, congrats BK! ^^ Congrats to your woman for getting a better job also ^^

Ira, Maryland is okay. I don’t like in a particularly nice part of Maryland so I had to revert a bit to my old NYC self which I dislike. I’m considering moving again within a year if I don’t land a job in my field. I’m thinking about going into real estate with the help of someone that’s been doing it for years…which would mean I may be moving to Las Vegas early next year so I’m penny pinching in case this indeed happens. It’s odd being in a city where I don’t really know anyone and to say it’s lonely here is an understatement…

Well, back to work I go. Oh yeah, EGS will never be the same unless someone kicks them in the balls and shows them how to run the club properly.

OK, got to play with Dizzy a bit and try your combos. Losing the fish on hit and the extended sweep range really are major nerfs that were probably both unneccessary.

The held homing arrow looks to be a lot of fun for setting up pressure and mindgames tho. Using it to continue strings is a easier page out of Bridget’s book. 236S negative edge seems like a nice way to release the spike while shielding yourself and setting up popups.

Just wanted to share my first impressions on your examples. Play any Johnnys? I’m wondering if that’s a match that you can salivate over.

Yes to playing Johnnys. No to salivating. Reason is Jackhound can punish a lot of Dizzy’s stuff on reaction.

I’ve been trying setups with Sweep FRC. Basic one is:

c.K > c.D (FRC) Dash > 2147P > dj. P

The idea is knockdown, TK bubble, and pop it either by jumping straight up or crossup. As simple as it sounds, the execution needs to be pretty tight since you have to do it before the opponent can air-throw plus when you TK the bubble, you can’t superjump. The superjump makes you lose the doublejump. I’m guessing this is because of Slash’s new input system, but I’m finding that I have to do the TK input slower than I used to.

Oh, c.HS also works, but it’s harder to connect since it’s lower range and Slash’s added pushback to everything.

Just to switch gears a bit, did anyone see DaVinci Code? I read the book about 2 years ago and also saw the movie. I got a kick out of the people protesting outside of the theater. Book is better than the movie, but that’s true in most cases anyways.

Couple more GG thoughts:
-Holding S leads to errant FD for me since I like to hold back as I attack. That just me?
-2H FRC is super easy, thankfully.
-Sidewinder combos look HARD with tight frame timings. You getting those down?
-Johnny and Slayer are so much more mobile now…much harder to exploit.
-TK seems easier to me now…

Didn’t see DVC yet, I will but maybe not in theatres. Haven’t been going out for as many movies lately but to catch up, I just rented Crash, Walk the Line, Capote, French Connection, and Dog Day Afternoon. See any of those? I like the polarizing opinions on Crash – excellent, poignant movie to some, heavy-handed, contrived, high-budget after-school special to others.

Actually, I haven’t watched many recent movies. My girlfriend has actually been on a Hirokazu Kore-ada kick, so we’ve been watching a bunch of his films the past few. I don’t really know much about movies to make any type of critical opinion, but he uses a lot of imagery that’s I guess rugged and not glamorous at all. It makes the characters seem more genuine, but at the same time makes things tend to drag on. If interested, I’d recommend *Nobody Knows. It’s about a bunch of kids that get abandoned by their mother, so they’re forced to live on their own. It’s filmed documentary style over the course of several months, so you actually get to see them grow up.

In other news, the guy who was making my stick just finished it. Here’s some pics:

I should have it next week. Can’t wait to get off of this MAS. =P Necro got kind of owned by the buttons. =/ Oh well.

What does that mean?

Stick looks excellent! Looks pretty heavy but compact. What’d it cost you?

I say Necro got owned by the buttons since he’s pretty much covered up due to the placement. So owned as in can’t see him. Necro is Dizzy’s black wing, fyi. Her white wing is Undine.

Cost me 200 with higher quality buttons, a non-standard balltop, and express shipping. It’s around 165 without all the extras.

Brad, that is a sweeeeeeeet looking stick :lovin:
Good choices all around on the art & accessories.

I saw the DaVinci Code, I liked it, it wasn’t great, but still good.
Didn’t read the book, but I saw every damn special that the History channel has put
out on the subject.
Being raised Catholic till I was out on my own then losing the faith gives me a lot of insight to both sides of the DaVinci arguement.
My thoughts are learn from Jesus’s teaching, he was a very wise man in a barbaric time. Don’t dwell on his death & get hung up on the whole "he died for your sins"
thing, because when you do you miss the points he was trying to raise & make with his life.
Jesus was the original “Hippie” & it seems tragically ironic that his so much blood (present & past) has been spilled in his name. Those who do so have learned nothing from the man & dishonor his memory, IMO.

I know who Necro is, thought you meant that the stick was causing you to mess up ghost moves in the game or something. Too bad you didn’t have this stick back then, but it seems like a good time with you meeting up with comp. Any interest in that big Toronto tourney? T6 I think?

I thought that these custom stick makers were popping up in part cuz people wanted to avoid MAS prices, but that’s certainly worth it for a great stick.

BK: I been watching a ton of National Geographic channel lately myself. I also hate how the bible is interpreted literally, but also so selectively that parts of it are ignored for convenience.

T7! T6 was last year’s tourney, heh.

I’m totally making it, though. Carpool?

Oh and uh, what’s the word on these Buffalo meetups? We should totally see if anything can happen next week.

PS, Johnny’s DB combos are hard. :frowning:

Thanks for replying to that DL thread! I’m up for carpool, but it takes place over 2-3 days so hotel…

They tend to play Sunday nights, one is set for this Sunday if you’re back in town tho I just remember that I have a Jehovah wedding that day…

Keep at it…

Don’t worry about hotel, I’ve got some friends who’re coming up to t7 for cvs2 and 3s, we can probably split the costs of a room or something. As for Sunday… it’s looking iffy. I’ll definitely have my stick by then, but I’ll have just made the drive from jersey so I dunno. Maybe the week after?

This coming week though we should totally play. A lot. I have so much to learn. D:

Guess Sunday’s out for both of us.

Yeah, let’s play a lot. Past few weeks, I been occupied by the NBA playoffs, among other things. That’s over soon. :wgrin:
