Been doing some reading; what’s a tick throw?
 I like the research.
A tick throw is essentially a technique that puts an opponent under pressure and gives you a opportunity to throw them while they’re attempting to block. The most common version of a modern tick throw is in SSFIVAE, you can walk up to someone, jab, have them block the jab, and then throw them while they’re preparing for other blockable forms of pressure. In most 2D games (3D are whole other beasts when talking about grabs), you can’t throw someone in blockstun AND you can’t throw them for a small window (usually 5-8 frames) after they leave blockstun, so the idea is to make them block and then time the throw to snatch them up as soon as they’re leaving that throw invulnerable window.
Tick throws are important because going in for raw grabs in most games is pretty difficult; many moves like jabs and crouching kicks are faster than actual grabs, so you use a quick move (preferably one with low blockstun; think of Kanji’s 5B) to keep the opponent in place so you can land your grab. The use of a quick move also stops the opponent from pressing a button on you in response, as they’ll typically get hit or counterhit most times. Since you can actually hit your opponent, however, you have to be able to react to whether or not they’ve blocked your “tick” before you input your “throw”; if someone is in hitstun, they can’t be thrown either in most games (THANK YOU BLAZBLUE FOR ANYTIME ANYWHERE THROWS).
Tick throw is when you do an attack , but instead of doing a combo or finishing with a block string, u stop attacking , wait for the block stun to end and attempt a grab. It’s useful for when u trained your opponent to block.
A street fighter example would look like
Ryu
Jump HK -> cr. Jab ( stop ). Throw
Troll Throw.
Ah, okay. That makes a lot of sense, thanks for the explanation!
I was doing some reading on Guilty Gear; tick throws are apparently an important part of Millia Rage’s gameplan, since throws leads to knockdowns and she’s got really good mixup options.
It’s extraordinarily helpful to be able to hassle you guys with questions whenever I come across a term I don’t know, a lot of this stuff is tricky to google.
Are you guys looking to make the BB tourney interesting (competitive)?
I wont let you down Garez de Valkenhayn!
No, if someone has their eyes on an easy (minimal) prize, I won’t get in your way!
 I have to be there this weekend.
Still really sour about not getting to go to the last one! >_<
Is there an entry fee? I might go to play some casuals, see your beautiful faces, and watch the matches, but I recognize I’m nowhere near good enough at bb to make it worth spending money to lose.
What was the prize last time?
I was just missing BB. Anybody up for some BB sittin’ and learnin’?
yeah, actually. If you don’t mind taking it slow and being gentle with me.
I don’t own a copy tho.
welp. maybe we can all get together with Yannick on friday?
