Wasn’t it a major plot point, or overarching theme, of the original that Murphy can’t make decisions on his own?

They certainly have made him far too human from what I can tell. What I loved about the original Robocop, amazing satire aside, was the whole machine/human mind relationship thing done way before matrix/ghost in the shell.
This movie literally looks like some injured dude has been outfitted with some cyborg parts and hes good to go. Original murphy was a basically a robot whos ‘soul’ fought back to the forefront to make him human again.
The death of Murphy in this movie looks shitty compared to him getting shot to pieces by Red Foreman and Co.

The allure for me in the OG Robocop was the human aspect peaking through the robot element (outside of the violence); Alex struggling through his memories (going through his house) and having flashbacks. Here…seems like he knows what happened and nothing has changed. Also, his wife thinking he was dead; moving on in her life and Robo being a creeper. The pull of old/new; robot/human
Honestly, this looks more like Iron Man (also, having a real hand?!?! Pay homage to the OG and get rid of it)
As for the R rated issue…you can get a R rated movie by saying “fuck” twice and thats it. Robocop was BREED for violence…Dude getting TORE UP in the conference room when they were testing ED-209…I mean, over the top (funny as hell) but that was the allure of the series; them trying to make Robocop 2 and the robot shoots himself in the head… Crazy ass shit and the down fall of it.
word. i mean really, they couldve just in a way rebooted robocop similar to the original, just with upgraded graphics, tech, new actors, a similar but slightly adjusted script and you wouldve had a winner. i would seriously go watch that movie. just how like dredd kept it simple and gangsta, thats all robocop had to do, but with a higher budget.
its funny that as times have changed, hollywood and the entertainment industry in general has either regressed or stayed stagnant. all those great classics of the past, and then they give us shit like total recall 2012, robocop, a plethora of horrifying marvel movies, all that batman trash, etc…
no good ole sports movies anymore, it has to be serious. no good ole movies about cars outside of fast and the furious or low budget straight to dvd movies. no good ole family fun flicks like goonies. scifi equivalents to starship troopers. the list goes on, and they wonder why people download so much shit like they have the right to. i mean its because its free, but really its also because its very shitty. i pay to go see stuff i like, own stuff on dvd i like, own stuff by musicians that deserve it, but i will not let you bamboozle me into just tossing cash out because something new is out, because it generally fucking sucks.
like im not even mad at the new robocop, because i didnt want it really. im just saddened that you chose to bring it back, and you didnt go ham on it. you took a great opportunity to do like some male version of ghost in the shell/cyberpunk, and just squandered it away to a bunch of bum ass writers, producers,and director.
Director’s apparently made some okay movies.
Eh. Whatever. Even if it ends up decent it’ll very likely be Robocop in name only. We’ll see.
