=Robocop Thread= Can you fly, Bobby?

hmmm the new one doesn’t look like a satire on american society to me, but I could be wrong. too bad there won’t be gun shot to a rapists genitals in this one.

Yeah I just watched the trailer again. That fucking arm needs to go. Where’s Clarence when you need him?

Looks decent.

That’s all I can really say.

They better be doing some ridiculous action sequences in this, at the very least this movie can be good for letting people watch a cyborg beat the living shit out of people using fancy CG and effects.

I can just imagine Peter Wellar watching this movie on his throne of awesome going “muwhaahHAHAH when will they learn?” then proceed to smash a group of asian chicks.

“What the hell did you do to me?!”

Premise of machine struggling with an undercurrent of human emotion ruined.

At least this Robocop won’t be showing up in WCW…

That’s my only major gripe so far.

He shouldn’t be so “aware”, and he shouldn’t remember his old life right away.

Should have kept that unchanged. He was basically a corpse that a big corporation used as a tool, not a cripple put in a metal suit on request by his wife. I don’t remember exactly, but I don’t even think they told his family in the original.

The thing with this remake is that I know it won’t rekindle what I remember as a kid or even reveal something new to the series. I remember trying to get my wife to watch it with me and she doesn’t understand why it is one of my favorite films. I was probably a bigger fan of Robocop than terminator (don’t get me wrong the lava scene at the end of Terminator 2 is a tear jerker). But Robocop for me actually shaped a lot of what I thought as a child. It being PG-13 really feels like they have to hold back which is unfortunate, because iirc the original Robocop got an “X” rating, so if anything I would like for the to push the envelope further instead of hold back. The new suit is okay, just get rid of the arm and keep it the original colorway but have it so it can change (camoflauge) in certain situations. but it’s whatever, I will see it and be really pissed as well.

That trailer sucked balls, His visor kept slamming down like he was Iron Man. And yea it seems like murphy this time around just needs a fake arm and leg and hes good to go. The original Robocop was built around murphys nervous system since the gang blown to pieces pretty much everything else. OCP even went as far to discard his salvagable arm in favour of full body prophesis, whats this michael jackson magic hand bullshit being shown in the reboot?

idk why but for some reason it reminds me to cyberpunk 2077:

Im not convinced this is the case. Alot of PG-13 movise from my childhood were super rauncy and every once in a while ill see one and be amazed that it was pg-13. And robocop is too big of a franchise $$$-maker to not be pg-13. X-rating didnt even stop the og from being heavily marketed to kids (kindpf interesting given the theme of 1 -and even 2).
also, the movie seems to be going heavy on the consciousness versus automation struggle, which is prob why they seem to be injecting it heasvy so early in the story. The othr aspects you so love and adore about the og will prob take a backseat. Not enough info to say it looks bad, just different; but then again i dont really care, i just posted to say:
Movies today need far more Michael Keaton than they are currently getting.

This movie needs a re-make like I need an extra asshole.

If any of you shitstains actually pays money to see this movie, I’ll make it my personal mission to have you banned from this site.

I’m actually planning on seeing this day 1

R rated movies depict the real consequences of violence. Swords cause loss of life and limb, bullets leave holes, falls cause shattered limbs and people to go splat, not die with a couple drops of ketchup dripping from their mouths. To not show the results of violence is to misrepresent the consequences of violence to children anyway. For example, if a serious movie is made about how the British conquered India, it better show blowing from a gun (read the wikipedia article which has first hand descriptions), that they’re making hundreds of people watch bloody executions, and the horrific bodily consequences of it. To do otherwise is an emotional disservice to the audience. At the end of Lawrence of Arabia, we see Peter O’Toole succumbing to his rage and sadism in murdering defeated Turks one by one, crossing the line from triumph to disgust. The same with Taxi Driver. De Niro saved a child prostitute but in doing so horrifically murdered her captors. To not show it onscreen would’ve deadened the effect upon the audience. In Die Hard, Alan Rickman taking 30 seconds to casual shoot the Japanese executive in the face and splatter his brains against the window tells the audience that he means business and is not to be fucked with much faster and effectively than say 10 minutes of dialogue about he is going to kill people and eat their babies or whatever Looney Tunes tomfoolery is permitted by the lowest common denominator studio system and moralizing ratings boards in the typical modern, overlong PG-13 action movie.

Another example, I just watched Black Death with Sean Bean. He dies of course as he’s Sean Bean and that’s what he does. When it finally comes on the Sci-Fi channel or something, the movie will be completely fucked as not showing his death ruins the emotional climax of the film; it would just be a giant middle finger to the audience.

No Clarence Boddicker = no point seeing this

Amen to that

You don’t need to show graphic violence to intimidate the audience. Most of the horror in Se7en’s crime scenes were implied or described in dialogue only. And I do think Joker in TDK conveyed as much terror as most R-rated thrillers. STILL, Hollywood is saying you can’t use graphic violence to tell a story anymore-- something the original RoboCop did expertly-- to great directors like the guy directing this movie. The big studios have all but abandoned the ideals of the 60s/70s New Hollywood era, unless it’s Oscar season.

The trailer was so generic looking and underwhelming and I agree with everyone else, LOSE THE FUCKING ARM!!! It is so damn distracting! That makes a lot of sense building an ultimate battle borg with a gimp human arm. :bluu:

He got bodied by cows.
