You’d be much better off directly soldering the wire to an MC. Because of the thickness of some wires, crimping it in an RJ-45 connector is very unlikely to work. At best, you could cut a piece of network cable and solder the Pelican cord wires to the network cable wires, but directly soldering to the cthulhu would be better. That’s what I did on my MC Cthulhu’d Namco stick, and it works great.
Need a little help please.
I’m following the guide to make a PS2 to RJ45 cable and I’m a little confused about the ground wire. It seems like it’s not actually a cable inside the bundle. I could see it through the clear sheathing and Looking at the guide it should be the wire connected to the 4 slot but I cant find it once I cut open the cable? I’m guessing it’s the metal shield on the outside of the bundle of wires since their are only 8 wires inside and a thick metal braided around it… I’m using a ps2 extension cable does the actual ps2 controller have this cable inside the bundle? Or do I need to use a piece or the braided metal as the ground???
There should be an actual wire leading to the ground pin, but the insulation colors can vary from cable to cable. I’d say grab a multimeter and check which wires match to which pin.
I followed the cable from the pin and I cant find it. I’m convinced it’s the metal shield thats the ground. I only have 8 wires and I see 9 pins?
PS it’s clear so I can see the wires on both ends there are 2 black wires on one end (one with white writing on it) and only one on the other end. I’ll have to pick up a different cable.
Oh and thanks for getting back. I tested the USB and it’s all good.
This somewhat relates to this thread, so I guess I’ll ask here (if not, then I’ll take my problem elsewhere):
I’m doing a dual pcb mod between a 360 PCB (using a Pelican pad) and the MC Cthulhu, plus an imp to switch between the two. I have pins 1, 5, 6 and 8 wired from RJ45 cable to the Imp board (1 to G, 5 to D-, 6 to D+, and 8 to V). The rest of the pins are wired to the Cthulhu (2 to A, 3 to B, 4 to C, and 7 to F).
I haven’t gotten the Cthulhu to work on my PS3 (but it did work on my computer when plugged into the USB B jack), but the lights on the 360 pad light up when I plug it in. This includes my Wii, which I did get the Cthulhu to work on. I checked, and rechecked, the USB cable to make sure that wasn’t the issue, but this doesn’t seem to be the case (I don’t currently have a multimeter on me to be 100% sure it’s still not the problem). I followed this guide to wire it, of course (1 = Black, 5 = White, 6 = Green, 8 = Red). Currently, the Guide button is wired to the Imp and only to the imp.
In summary:
Cthulhu works on Wii/GameCube
PS3/360 PCBs aren’t working when hooked up (Imp doesn’t switch between the two)
So my question is this: Does anyone see where I went wrong in the wiring?
Is your guide button not hooked up to a ground(not sure if that’s what you mean by only hooked up to the imp)? If it’s not connected to a ground, that’s why the imp isn’t switching. As for the USB not working, I’d wager that it’s your cable if the gamecube cable works fine.
Yeah, the Guide is grounded. I’ll be sure to test that cable with a multimeter the first chance I get.
I just made my RJ45 cords for Wii and PSX but they are a little loose without the Neutrik boot. On Third Strike, if the cord is tugged away at all it pauses the game. Any way to prevent this while im waiting on the boots to come in the mail?
The cord’s insulation should only be stripped far enough for the wires to be able to be inserted where the pins are. The cord insulation should still be present on the plastic piece of the RJ-45 end that crimps down to hold the cord.
i made them exactly like the tutorial said without stripping the wires before inserting them into the jack. It just fits a little loose still.
Hey, I have an RJ45 port soldered to an MC Cthulhu, I’ve checked that everything is soldered correctly and it is. My GC cable works but the PS2 cable I have doesn’t work. I’ve double checked this also and everything is in the right place and in the right order. Had anyone got any ideas as to what could be the problem?
One of your pins that’s not one of the three for the gamecube is not connected well. It could be the soldering at the cthulhu, the port on your case, or the crimping on your cable.
just throwing this out there for anyone interested- I know since TvC came out here a lot of people are probably doing this mod to use their sticks on wii. Something I found recently that’s pretty useful for making cables are these 10 foot ‘cheap thrills’ brand GC extension cords.
nice and long, and white too- looks pretty cool if you have a white stick. I think there are some normal colored 10 ft extension cables out there for wii too (the price that ‘featured seller’ is charging is crazy though, I got some of these on ebay for a couple bucks each with free shipping…). Don’t know if everyone already knew about these, but personally I was getting sick of having to sit on the ground right next to my huge tv because of the lame short extension cords I got when I did my first mod a long time ago. So just passing it on to whoever else might be interested
Good shit.
Need to grab a few of those. All the extension cords for the GC I found were 6’.
Edit: Ebay auction. $5 each shipped. Not bad.
This is going to sound really noobie and stuff. I wired my cables just like in this tutorial, I got oen of the neutrik RJ45, but its similar to the one found here
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/572142/RJ45mod/punch.JPG
I soldered my wires across the first row of the MC board, and put them in the RJ45 in this order
G = White Orange
A = Orange
B = White Green
C = Blue
D = White Blue
E = Green
F = White Brown
V = Brown
I got mine a couple of days ago. They’re definitely good quality extension cables. Perfect for the RJ45 mod. I wish someone would make PS2 extension cables this long. Most of the cords I have are from PS1 controllers and only 7’. Not too bad I guess.
So I assume I’d only need that extension cord to make a working GC/Wii cable for the RJ45? I’m clueless when it comes to modding…
Also, I have someone willing to mod my stick, however I want to make sure I know what to ask for so there are no surprises later. I want my TE 360 stick modded with a MC Cthulhu, Imp, and RJ45 jack along with a detachable PS1/2 and GC/Wii cord. Couple questions:
-
I was told that you can’t use a USB cord for an RJ45 jack if doing a dual mod and that it only works if not modded with a 360. If that is the case, do I also need to have a USB jack installed? Would that single USB jack work with PS3/360/PC?
-
Would it be possible to cut, attach a B-male connector, and reuse the original USB cord that comes with the 360 TE for the installed USB jack? Or am I better off using a completely new USB cord?
you can use USB for the RJ45 mod. my stick only has an RJ45 port and it works on pc,ps1,ps2,ps3/xbox360, xbox1, wii, gamecube, and if i update, snes, nes.
yes you can reuse the usb cable. that’s what I did.
