Hmm, well that’s strange. I wonder why he would tell me he can only reuse the USB cord for the RJ45 if the MC is not used in a dual mod with a 360 board? Is it a more difficult process or is there something I’m missing?
What you have shrimp is essentially what I want for my stick.
in terms of technical aspect, it’s the same difficulty, just different. He’s probably using the bomberman tutorial to mod as a guide (that mod is for both USB and RJ45 port) where there’s no real tutorial on how to dual mod with only the RJ45. the nearest tutorial on how to do that is reading this thread and that thread, have a complete understanding of both, and figure it out on your own. there in lies the difficulty.
Crap, there STILL isn’t one? I thought someone had made a tutorial on doing it back when I did mine. If you think it would be worthwhile I could easily throw one together. This is assuming, of course, we’re doing a MC cthulhu + imp + 360 dual mod.
I’d certainly appreciate it, hikarutilmitt. A post by Edge and a few others explain what needs to be done, but it’d be nice having a more thorough guide.
I hear that! When I first posted about that cord I was in the middle of looking for a 10 ft ps2 cord too, haha. I figured if there’s a 10 foot GC, there HAS to be a long ass 3rd party PS2 cord out there since it’s by far the more popular system…nothing.
If anyone else knows of a 9+ ft ps2 cable, hook me up with some info!
Out of curiosity- What’s the difference between that and rj45?
instead of looking fo long ass extension cords for your system, allways keep in mind you can get a female to female ethernet coupler and a regular ethernet cord for a universal extension cord.
I know, I know… I mean- I could get regular controller extension cords too (although yours is the cheaper more general solution). I also thought about splicing two cables together with some heat shrink tubing or something
Not a bad idea.
What I’m thinking would be have a heavy duty ethernet cable with one of the neutrik boots on the end that hooks up to the stick and on the other one of the 8 pin break-away connectors as seen here. The console cord would have to have the break-away cable end as well but that idea definitely works for a longer cable. I’m definitely going to look into that.
I don’t suppose anyone could find me a clean, clear pic of a 360 PCB to use for the diagram (preferably from one of the fightsticks)? I’ve been searching for a bit and cannot find one that hasn’t already been covered with lines and writing and such.
I found it easier to disassemble the PSX connector and solder cat 5 wires to each plug on the interior. Note the locking tabs are abotu 2/5’s and 4/5’s the way on the top and bottom of the connectors.
@Micron: I’ve tried that and always end butchering the ps plug end. I might give it another go though. How do you do it without destroying the plug end? That would be ideal. No need for extra plugs.
I modded my AES stick to use a female mini din 8, with male mini din cords. It works pretty damn well, but I do won’t to make one strong suggestion to anyone that goes the mini-din route: GET THE CRIMP PINS. http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Cat=1442669&FV=fff40016,fffc0066
Soldering wires to the pins is a serious pain. The crimp pins make it a lot more manageable.
i took apart the PSX connector with precision flathead screwdrivers graduating to normal size flatheads (using twisting motion @ 2/5 and 4/5 on top and bottom. then I cut away the psx cable and prepared a long cat5 cable and slid the outer case on the new cat5 cable. i’m going to cut away each psx cable individually and insert a cat5 strand in its place, right next to the pin. then i will do a large solder mound to th end, tryint to bend the cat 5 strand down through the solder mound, trying to get the solder mound to contact the sides of the pins. use the crimp thingy that was on the old PSX cable to relieve the strain from the solder joints, or you could try using a small zip tie for the same thing. i’m going to make my cable 30 feet and see what happens. in my opinion there is nothing better than using cat5/6 cable.
