It’s also worth pointing out that Rival Schools is going to be 40 pages a month.
Also, regarding the coloring which has been mentioned here a few times… It’s not going to be colored. B&W with grey tones, the same toner and letterer he worked with on Sharknife I believe.

I’m dying to check this out. Originally Rival Schools was the Udon book I was least interested in, but once I found out Reyyy was taking it over… damn. After having read Sharknife I’m dying to see this. The bear fight and the octopus fight were fantastic and some of the better action sequences I’ve seen in Western comics. They just had so much energy behind them… great stuff. I’m dying to read Peng!, I ordered a copy from my comic shop but there was some kind of mishap and their whole chain only got one copy. They said they’d reorder though, so I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy.
I think Reyyy’s going to be good for this book and vice versa. For the most part his creator owned work’s been getting really good word of mouth and has gotten positive reviews from folks like Warren Ellis and Brian Wood. Hopefully this will carry over and people will check out Rival Schools who normally wouldn’t.
i thought it was a dreamwave book.
Darkstalkers and Rival Schools were both Dreamwave properties at one time, but UDON acquired when DW was going under, and DW currently dosn’t exist anymore.
they exist, their restructuring. Their starting from the ground up right now their doing a talent search for new artists…hopefully now it won’t be soley canadian asians…that always bothered me, they only seemed to hire asians who lived in canada.

And then I saw that preview that was in that one issue of SF, with Natsu and Hinata and was wierded out and dissapointed.
And now Sharknife!!? I am a fan of Rey, and enjoy his work… but… his faces look so scribbly

Hello everyone. Can someone please tell me what ever happened to Omar Dogan doing the Rival Schools comic? I absolutely loved his work that he produced for Udon, it was just perfect and looked just like the original Capcom art for the games. I have nothing against Rey, but i do not like his style of art for this comic. Shame, because i was really looking forward to this… Now, with art like this, i will not be buying the comic.:tdown:

That Lo-Fi cover looked alright, and those sketches looked quite cool in my opinion. However, the scans fromt he comic do look a little…Non-RS like if you must.
Most of us will probably get used to it after a few issues, but right now they do look a little odd. But hey, it’s good to have some change. To an average comic book person, if they saw RS looked like SF and DS, they’d just think “This looks the same…nah, I think I’ll pass”. Rey’s stuff just adds that little extra bit which always get people to think “Interesting, it looks original”. Of course, all of us here know what RS is and what it usually looks like, but with a little open mindedness, this could turn out to be very, very good.
But I have to say, I like those sketches a lot more.
I think Omar doing Robotech for DC.
I’ll be honest that he was closer at the character design than Rey. However I think Rey can beat him in the insane wacky fighting department for example: the Team Remix combos.

Thats because when Dreamwave was formed by Pat Lee, most of the staff comprised of his family members, so thats why there were so many “Asian Candians” on DW’s staff.
Also don’t forget that UDON is somewhat similar since they formed from DW, ie alot of UDON is/was ex-DW staff. I even have a SF picture that Alvin (Lee) drew years ago when he was still with DW, before anyone even thought of doing a new SF comic, and ironicaly Alvin ended up becoming the artist for UDON’s SF comic, not to mention when I showed the pic to Rey years ago, he was curious as to who did it (since I guess he was impressed by it) and Rey years later ended up working on the same SF comic that Alvin worked on.

most of udon aren’t ex dw people. Udon was created while dw was still in buisness. Most of udon were internet artists, i followed 99% of them when i was younger. Which is really odd how they all formed a studio together. I know they are all street fighter fans…pre udon would be the guys who did last shot.

Last Shot was done by Studio XD (Long Vo, LoCKe, etc) who went on to create GAIA Online, while also moving “into” UDON.
I dind’t mean to say most or alot when it came to DW and UDON, but that the founding members of UDON once worked DW, like Eric for example I believe worked for DW (like how Todd McFarlane worked for Marvel before going on to create Image)
gotcha, ya i still amazed locke made gaia…he never seemed that…well…gay. Long vo striaght up fell off, he had soem really good art, i would love to see his stuff published.

I really don’t like this guy’s style. Not after the amazing job Udon did with Street Fighter and Darkstalkers… It just doesn’t look Capcom at all, something Udon did manage to do quite well so far.
At least, Sakura’s in it… So I’m buying it.
But still. I’m disappointed.
