RIP Spectacular Spider-Man 2008-2010

It’s not people dying that I’m worried about, it’s people coming back from the dead that bothers me.

With Greg W as producer of the show, I don’t think we’ll really have to worry about folks coming back from the dead, unless they were never dead to begin with.

I have heard NOTHING but GOOD THINGS about this show. People have been calling it DCAU-quality.

Is there any word of this coming to DVD anytime soon?

Shows is up there with DCAU material. DVDs will get released with extra bonus stuff, including stuff that didn’t meet S&P. As for when the DVDs will get released, no word yet.

There are plans, but nothing too soon. I’d say maybe later this year or early next.

Anyway, I’m on episode 8 and I have to say, this show is too fucking good. It definitely IS worthy of DCAU praise. The Green Goblin was actually handled well and his voice was actually fitting. Has the laugh of the 90s version with the tone of the Joker.

Also, Keith David as Tombstone is genius. The voice casting is on par with DCAU casting.

Gobby is definitely has a bit of Joker in him. A good thing, IMO.

Keith David was only Big Man/Tombstone for the first ep. From ep 4 and up, Kevin Michael Richardson does the voice. If he sounds just like Keith, he’s doing an amazing job!

This Saturday’s eps are “Natural Selection” and "Market Forces.’ Lizard and Shocker.

My favorite part of the interview:

IGN: Speaking of costumes, you did something really fun with the black costume where it looked like the movie version at first

Weisman: Yeah, boy, and people were pissed about that too! [Laughs]

IGN: [Laughs] Yes, some were. But then it started to transform and look more and more like the comic book version. How did that idea come about?

Weisman: There was some discussion here about which way we should go the movie version or the comic book version. And I think it was Vic’s idea to say, “Well, what if we did both?” I think [executive producer] Craig Kyle also participated in that decision, but I think Vic and Craig and I and [Sony’s] Michael Vogel probably all sat down and discussed it. But you know, that I love, because yeah, it’s fun for us that you have this little movie tribute and you have this little comic book tribute in there. But what I love about it is then it becomes for reasons of story it’s not purely an aesthetic choice, but what we’re indicating is the symbiote is slowly gaining a bigger and bigger foothold within Peter. And so with every episode in those three, there’s a progression there.

In some ways, my favorite is almost the middle phase in Episode 11, where the webs are starting to dissolve and it has almost this veiny feel to it. There’s almost something coolest about that. It really is subjective, but if we were only going to do one costume, my personal preference would have been the comic book solid black. But this idea, when Vic came up with it, I just thought was fantastic. First off, the big lesson from that is this is a team effort. We’ve got a great crew here. Vic is a fantastic partner on the show. But it’s one of these things where okay, here’s a creative question. What’s the most creative way to answer that question?

Love the subtleties, that was excellent.

His reasons for Kraven being in season 2 instead of one is also very logical.

Weisman is too beastly. All I can say about that interview is that he is a man who takes great care of the universe he’s created. It seems as if the man can do no wrong when it comes to Spectacular. This article has put my hype meter for this show beyond the limit. This show will be on Toonami in January, bet it. And if not there the somewhere on Cartoon Network. And if they wanna release Season 2 exclusively on DVD, let em. Cause I will be there to purchase them. I just need this show back in some form to entertain me. Saturday mornings haven’t been the same without new episodes to look forward to.

I just saw all of season 1 and my God it was amazing. I was expecting garbage, but this show is amazing. The fight scenes are great, characters act almost exactly like they would in the comics and the direction and plot are well thought out.

Great series and anyone who hasn’t seen it should see it.

I like the art style as well and it really helps the animation look super smooth and fluid. The reason 90s STAS had sucked fights was because of censor ship and those detailed character models.

The voice actor for Vulture is the dude who was Freddy Crugger in the Nightmare on Elm Street Movies.

I’m sure it takes place after that crap fest that was Fast Forward. I briefly saw a commercial for it, the art was a bit different(looked a bit darker but Casey Jones had the same voice and looked the same).

The first DVD for Spectacular Spider-Man came out today. The disc has the first 3 eps fused into one full-length feature. Bonuses include stuff that was cut for time and didn’t fit S&P guidelines.

They use the same kiddie-cartoon anatomy that TMNT (movie) uses, rather than the hardcore buff and properly proportioned (except for Hun…fuckin’ gorilla-arms) look from 2k3 turtles cartoon…and the turtles have pupils instead of straight white eyes. I’m not sure about this…
