Reading Shigesato Itoi’s message:
Ugh… All these damn onions.
I was just about to link that image here after I found it on Facebook. I liked that Patulena was portrayed as a older sister or maternal figure here and that Samus kinda wore a dress suit, but moreso the unity of the “notable” characters. It’s a great piece overall.
As for Iwata’s death, I heard about it last night at work and was quite shaken. It made me reminisce on how I developed a great appreciation for Nintendo’s work as a child growing up with a N64 and spending a lot of my time at my cousins’ (I believe one of them still has her N64 and a lot of the game as well, including her Gamecube, which I was always wanted). That being said, some of the Nintendo’s work has influenced my creativity and I’m deeply saddened by this. I’ll probably draw a rough “memorial sketch” when I get home from work, tonight.
The man was an absolute beast mode programmer as well… Remember how hyped you were to go back to Kanto in Pokemon Gold and Silver?
Iwata was the dude that compressed the code in order to fit the Kanto map into the game when the other programmers said it couldn’t be done.
Did you love seeing your mons in 3D battles in the Stadium games? Iwata rewrote and ported the battle engine to N64… IN A WEEK’S TIME.
Did you cut your RPG teeth on the original Dragon Warrior for NES? Iwata made it possible.
Ever play Smash Bros? When Sakurai was shot down by the board, Iwata told him he’d help him program it in their off time and get Miyamoto to take a look at it.
And there’s a ton more stories like that about legendary games that wouldn’t have been as great as they were had he not been there…
*
Thank you so very much, Mr. Iwata… Your contributions and legacy in this industry have touched us all, and will continue to do so for many, many, many years to come.*
He might have had some hard times during his day but he inherited the fuck up that caused the Playstation to exist as well as the (deserved) stigma of Nintendo consoles as a kiddie console.
GameCube was freaking awesome, Wii, well, was cool for a little while, Wii U became good, DS/3DS is great.
He had a great sense of humor and was a unique talent. His integrity as a president is rare. A self-imposed pay cut and a refusal to lay off staff are quick examples but him being the spokesperson and clearly loving gaming are better ones.
GGS, Iwata-san.
“Iwata… tasu… kete… kudasai…”
Vynce see stuff like that is what’s wrong with this world. No matter what when someone dies some random person has to make youtube money off it. Use it to promote themselfs. And just to get people mad and be a ass. Etc etc. It really really shows how many people out there just don’t truly care about anyone or anything.
And asking them to change one bit? Good luck with that. This isn’t a troll post or whatever buzz word you call it too. Just really notice this a lot with humans in general lately on anything.

Never forget
There is also that banana, look towards camera, but no BETA in this thread yet. WTF, you fanboyardee,
SAAAAAAAAAAAAALEES FAILURRRRRRRE
Some people are just so disrespectful beyond belief.
If you’d like, feel free to give her hell, but address like a blank envelope if you’d like. That being said, a man just died and she’s making it about herself and how Nintendo needs to represent women in a better way. Also, saying you’re glad he’s gone but not glad that he’s dead is still pretty tactless to say, all because you personally have nothing to forward to in a video game.
Damn, it sounds like he was a big part of what made Nintendo good, RIP.
Hope the next guy coming into the position isn’t just some spineless puppet to the shareholders.
We do our best not to dignify those abominations with responses.
Besides, I don’t want to derail the thread ranting about why most feminists need their mouths sown shut.
There always has to be that one person…
As a programmer Iwata was a rare talent. When you can make software engineers with master degrees or PHD eat their words as you did what they said can’t be done, that golden.
He could of gone with a 100 other companies that offer him more money and prestige, but Iwata followed his heart and stuck with gaming. It showed you the passion that burned in his heart.
it would be tumblr
satoru iwata was also the one who challenged devlopers to make the nintendo ds extremely durable.
“i told them to make it so that it could survive being dropped 1.5 meters onto concrete. the hardware design team screamed, but then proceeded to figure out how to pass the test”.
this is why we now have the clam shell design.
the ds also made gaming history by being on the of only electronics to function after a long climb to the top of mount everest when many other electronics died.
My brother left his 3DS on the hood of my Jeep and my girlfriend drove off with it. It fell off at a stoplight and was fine, minus a few scuff marks.
If the regular DS was that durable, good god I don’t want to see the stress tests that the 2DS went through. That thing looks like the water bear of handhelds.
You could probably fire it off a rail gun and completely destroy a vehicle and it’ll still be playable.
