When did anyone say any of that? No one playing Marvel is getting headaches from it, they are enjoying it despite or even because of it’s brokenness. There were these other games that had a similar following, you may have heard of XvSF, MSHvSF, MVC1 and MVC2.
Having fun and being competitive aren’t mutually exclusive. I venture that anyone playing any game is or at least should be having fun, they are games after all. Being competitive comes second to raw fun, at least for me and I assume most people.
Marvel 3 is terrible, yes. But it’s not quite masochism because, well, people enjoy it for its terrible-ness.
People can dislike it all they want but let’s not pretend people play it for “the money” (if people played video games competitively for the money they would not be playing fighting games) or that it doesn’t deserve at least some respect because “X top player says he doesn’t like it”.
I can show you tooooooooons of games that are terrible and yet fun. Fucking Cards Against Humanity, Apples to Apples, We Didn’t Playtest This, Robo Rally… just quick stuff off the top of my head. Any Zynga game, Flappy Bird, 2048, etc etc etc.
I get that it’s hipster to be elitist, but it sounds like you just don’t get gaming in general. That’s fine, but advertising your ignorance and indifference to gaming just seems dumb on a gaming site. Get out.
Lol, I am not being an elitist. I just spoke my opinion about a game which I can do…Because you know…since this is supposed to be a video game forum and its public.
Inb4, nope. I am not wrong. Neither of you guys can’t speak to me in an authoritative manner in regards to what I think about the game and it’s community.
From the very beginning, I said enjoy this version of UMvC3 since busted and all…That’s what you have to deal with i until 2022 most likely. I am still waiting for the real MvC3 mind you. MvC2 was an amazing game. Amazing enough that I could tolerate all the stupid crap the Mahvel community brought along. With that level of gameplay quality gone…Why should a person tolerate the Mahvel cult-like culture on top of the actual mediocrity of the game?
Mahvel players don’t strike me as a bunch of fellows who “just play for fun” bro. A lot of them say the game is ass but deep down they want to secretly believe their game is godlike. If they are not about that life, then they give me an erroneous impression.
And you said I don’t get gaming, When I clearly have a freaking Pokemon character as an avatar? lol I get that you are a mod and all. But don’t talk to me in that condescending tone. I would appreciate that you stop doing that.
No, but I can point out that speaking on behalf of other people is dumb because it provides for shitty level of discussion you are currently engaging in. Speak for yourself and your own opinion.
Nobody but you said they “just play for fun”. They do it because they enjoy the game. They do it because it’s also super competitive. They do it for all sorts of reasons. I do not know which players you hang out with. I see all sorts of them in my travels. I don’t think anybody is confused, as was again apparent this past weekend when well known MvC3 players were trashing on the game in person and on the stream, and then went on to play it more. You seem to be laboring under the impression that just because you’re confused about something makes it true. You do not need to share your misconceptions of other’s intents and beliefs that you laugh at: it’s about as interesting as the dream about socks you had last night. Everybody making up their own fictions would make for a really shitty forum: stop doing that.
Then stop being dumb. If your argument stems from you think that other people might feel one way and that would be so dumb of them (LOL!1!)… maybe you could rethink what you’re thinking and realizing that maybe not everybody is a dumbass. Either give other people the intellectual respect you would expect to be given yourself or you will be noted and treated as a dumbass.
Marvel being terrible doesn’t necessarily make it terrible to play. Its terrible-ness makes it interesting, at least to the people who enjoy it. I hate Marvel 3/Marvel 2 comparisons, but it’s like how MvC2 was a terrible game but what made it so bad was what made it actually kind of cool.
The concept of people actually liking Marvel 3 really shouldn’t be this hard to understand, so please stop shitting on the people who do.
Please, there has not been actual discussion going on in this thread since post #1. I express my opinions, laughed at some jokes and don’t engage into a discussion with formalities because there’s no actual reason for that.
TL;DR version of this thread: Disney will limit usage of Marvel material to projects they see fit. A commercial failure of a franchise from a niche genre is not a good investment. The FGC has the amazing logic to give terrible games a pass and ridicule good games all for the sake of enjoyment of the mediocre material.
I honestly don’t really care about what you think about the game itself, the fact that it sucks has been discussed tons of times already.
I’ve just been saying that your opinions on the people who play the game are shit. And just because there’s “no actual discussion” happening (last I checked there was) doesn’t mean I don’t get to call you out on having shit opinions.
People embrace games both good and/or bad in this scene. I don’t see what the problem is here.
You sound really bitter. Sorry whatever smaller/niche game you play doesn’t get as much love, dude.
He does actually kind of have a point though. Pretty much any game that’s not SF or Marvel is considered to some degree to be a smaller/niche fighter in most scenes unless it’s like, Smash Bros or something, and that gets a whole or world of hate towards the people who play that. Whether they’re good, bad, or ‘deserve’ to be smaller/niche is unfortunately kind of irrelevant in a lot of cases to whether it happens or not.
I’m still confused why people act like this shit is new. Besides Nickrocks, everybody knew that marvel 2 was shitty as fuck but at the same time it was fun as hell. I’m sure that there were plenty of games that were much better games than Marvel 2 that got shafted. So niggas need to stop acting brand new about this shit. At the end of the day a fun game trumps a “good” one any day.
My take’s pretty much been that part of Marvel and SF being the biggest 2 comes from Capcom often being seen as the ones that invented/started the FGC with the original SF2, and how it was ported to just about everything, making its fighters (the Street Fighter series primarily) the most mainstream, and easily accessible back in the day. I’m not entirely sure on where all the Marvel stuff got spotted, but I’d assume the whole Marvel fighter series popularity thing probably started as early as CoTA where the only other real option in that area was well…Justice League Task Force. Which was really really bad. Like, in a “this shit’s horrible and boring” way, instead of a “bad but fun” way.
When mvc2 finally dies for realsies this time (aka the last player finally finishes rotting away to his skeletal frame, fingers still in a fly combo motion) theres always the option of being a shit talking ggpo tard on mvc1 for me
I am going to be real, I have seen people shit on the big games WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than the fans of the big games shit on the little ones.
Also to point out some irony, people that say that people are only fans of Marvel vs Capcom because marvel is in it, can you guys explain some of that love that Dengeki gets then? Its a game wiht two shows that involve invest and glorifies it. Just sayin.
I always figured it doesn’t matter that MVC3 is bad, because it gives you some things that that other games don’t.
Maybe some marvel 3 fans will like Xrd or something. It will be very different but its fast and flashy lol
@NickRocks I never forget a good quote when I see one. That belongs on a signature or in one of those inspirational image quotes people share on tumblr.
And nope. MvC2 was a good game. It has everything you could ask for in a fast paced game done unintentionally right. It’s a rare happy accident of destiny. One of those once in 25 years type of thing. Stop trying to put MvC3 in the same category.
I’m sorry, but the idea that people playing the newest games is killing the FGC is absurd. The reason people play these new games because they are accessible to everyone. EX: The first time I saw CvS2 was at an arcade venue near me. I played it and enjoyed it, but there was a problem, there was no one to play with. All the FGs were place upstairs, pretty much forgotten by everyone. I was the only one up there for hours playing most of them. I built a interest in the game, but how the fuck am I going to play CvS2 if no one plays it.
Ok, now imagine at tournaments. If there isn’t a setup for your game, then how in the hell are people going to like it and support it? People can get copies of these new fgs and find people to play with. For the older titles, you need to go to some lengths to get the game and find who can play with you. “If you built it, they will come.”
Quoting this because this is the reason I’m typing all this.
I honestly believe the REAL cancer that is “killing” the FGC is we are always just fighting with one another over FGs. I can understand that you hate X game, but for the love of god just don’t get in the way of the people who do support them. Support your game and let others support theirs. I enjoy supporting any FG by watching, playing, and talking with others about it. If everyone can just do that, then we can be something better.
Regarding Marvel vs Capcom, I believe 2 & 3 will still be played and won’t died any time soon because there are people who support them regardless of Disney pulling them.
