400 in 1 will not be fixed, and will never be. The circuits on the board blown out for that button, only way to fix is to swap the board.
Even if BlazeBlu is out, manager opposes tournament when the game has just been released. Really isn’t any point anyway.
Why would he be opposed to a tournament for BlazBlue?
IIRC the game is slated to come to Lovegety this month or in early December. It’s not like he’d be getting robbed of the first couple weeks weekend money (and that is what we’re talking about here despite you not coming outright to say it). With a month of playing under them, the players deserve a chance to see how well they fair in a competitive setting.
I suspect if you run a tournament 1 month after the release… only people who are gonna be good at it are the guilty gear players who already knows the combo in their head right now. The only “competitive setting” would be the players who would camp the BlazeBlu machine for the whole month… and of course… they would be playing each other anyway, tournament or not…
with that said… ill still join if its hosted… not to win… just because its out… and we all want to play it
yea there was a sfIV tournament like the week of it was out lol.
And its not really our fault that “we already know the combo in our head right now” (actually i dont lol). We research on the game and watch vids on youtube, so don’t we deserve to be the “better” players compared to the people whos just hyped up about the game but not really doing their part to be competitive? Its not like we hog the machine and not let anyone else play when its gonna get here lol.
If you’re gonna say GG experience helps, im gonna say not really, because after watching vids, its a different game. Sure some things still apply (fd, burst) but its only the game system, not playstyle.
Already theres the “i can’t catch up to you guys” excuse before the games even out lol. Oh man.
But regardless, i’ll be out of the country during this date so won’t be attending.
yeah… and thats when the topic came up, the manager there really want everyone to try the game… not just the people who joined the tourny… especially when everyone is anticipating on playing the game on that day (without the tourny)…
What.
Everyone that joined that day were the same people that looked forward to playing it. It’s not like there were a shit load of random people that would’ve played otherwise.
Seriously, the mentality makes no sense. Tournaments guarantee that new players not only get to play but also play at least two opponents if not more depending on how far they make it. This isn’t about people not getting to play, it’s about the manager realizing his profits get chopped in half for a few hours while the tournament is going on. A little long term thinking would let him realize that losing a few bucks in a single day is worth the price of long term consistent play for months.
1 - people who have well research the game and/or people who play a lot during the first few weeks definitely will attain a lot of experience
lets put this into an example: say theres 10 people total in toronto playing BB, say 4 of them are in this category (skill 8/10) and 6 ppl are just really new players (skill 2/10)…
you average skill of the tournament is 5/10…
now theres always skill level ceiling after awhile… maybe 2 more months, those 4 players will have a skill level of 9/10 while those other 6 will gain to maybe 7/10
your average skill of the tournament is now 8/10
does it make much more sense to start tournament then? rather than skill level 5/10 where those 4 players basically joining knowing that its a competition amongst those 4 players… and waste a day of training for those other 6…
I’m saying “many players can’t catch up to you guys” if the tournament is 1 month out
(not exactly me, because i’ll prolly play a lot more of this game),
but definitely the people who have less play time during the first month will have more fun in the tournament if it is a few months later
A quick tourney on release day or shortly after guarantees everybody who joins (its not like the entry fee is huge for a tourney the day after a game is out, everybody sucks, its for fun) a chance to play AT LEAST 2 different opponents during the tournament. If you think of how casual SF4 went on the first few days, it was me winning every match I played and everybody who wanted to learn being forced to play the game against a turtle honda. And after my reign it seemed to me that Jay would just run the cabinet for weeks after, so any casual you played was either against a turtle honda or zangief.
In the tournament however people were allowed to play a variety of opponents, not just the person who learned the system faster than everybody simply due to the nature of a win streak in a new game. Getting 10 wins is essentially guaranteeing you more experience than most people will get within the first week ultimately let you dominate the cab until people have time to learn the system on their own time.
IMO, if the manager wants the players to get a better opinion of the game he would allow a tournament within the first few days or risk having people get sick of the game when the one dominate player runs the game due to the nature of the learning curve for a new engine.
Edit - I was typing this for a while before reading all this, but seriously, playing 2 individual opponents is >>> than playing the same dominate opponent the whole time. And I’m completely sure that one person will come on and run the cab within the first few days, its just the way it works.
You know how much people are there watching the first tournament, and were NOT in the tournament? there was a huge crowd… there really was a shit load of people…
i dunno if those people were to try the game that day that the SF4 crowd would become larger… but definitely they did not get to try it on the first saturday of the game coming out…
in reply to gerjay and nagata:
yes… it would make sense if everyone who were watching at the tournament that day were to pay the 5 dollar to join the limited space tournament…
playing 2 dominate players losing… maybe 2 dollars… better than paying 5 dollars in tournament mode and then lose 2 more dollars each game… right? and then not get to play until the tournament is over…
