Yeah, you guys realize Hilde didn’t win? Or get second? I saw Ceirn state recently that RTD and himself are the only two Hildes even placing at majors.
Really liked the finals. Couldn’t have been any more solid.

Haahha so truee!
Well, for Evo’s last SC4 event, they were pretty good finals. Glad I got to see it.
yeooooooo thanks.
i think you can hear aris during the pool commentary for sc4 on the stream. he was supposed to return to commentate the finals but evo staff decided that they wouldnt allow him back on cause that guy cant keep the 4 letter words and hilarious racism out of his mouth. also heard that the final commentator was upset that he was going to get replaced.
and for sc being a good game, it is! i love the sc system, its way more fun and dynamic than tekkens, but theres a huge flaw. sc3 had a similar great system with a huge flaw (VC wtf namco) so that game died hella quick and now we have a similar yet slightly less abuseable problem in pad hilde + button maps. games good without it, but with it, its not worth fucking around with.
i hope the guys who want to try it out enjoy it because the sc system is so good. its really fresh, especially if you go to it with a tekken background.
lol to st throw and marvel ahvb comparisons. YJDK bitches!
I’d be surprised if ‘thousands’ were turned off by the SCIV footage. Not only did Hilde not dominate in the top 8, but the matches were very exciting and showed that she is a very situational character who can get out played. She is not the only character in the game who gets good RO’s, so if people have a problem with that mechanic they can avoid SC all together and there’s nothing anyone can do. If someone hate SC because Hilde scored a RO, they probably hate Tekken when there’s a wall combo, or SFIV when Sagat gets 2xRH Ultra, or any other excuse to avoid playing games they’ll never be good at.
I’m a casual SC4 player who went with hardcore SF4 players who don’t play any 3D games and although we missed the finals, they were impressed with the Day 1 matches to the point that they are thinking on learning the game.
Nah, not upset, just confused. They came to me first and asked if I would like to commentate on SC4, and I was all like “hell yea” and went and told everyone. Then since I had to run a pool, they asked me to start coming to stage to commentate, and I was like, sure thing, just let me finish my pool, it’s almost done. 5 mins later they were like “yo nevermind we got Aris to do it”. So I was like “Ok, guess I’ll do finals then, or join in later”. Kinda lousy that I was stuck in pools when they needed me, and went with someone before I could figure out a way to replace myself… But I lived with it.
Afterwards I heard that aris was hilarious, but just sat there and busted on the game not really adding much for those interested in learning about it and just being ‘funny’. Which is all good, but I went to Keits and told him, “Yo, I still wanna commentate, and I won’t cuss or be a distraction, I will explain the game” and we both agreed that would probably be the best way to go, since Aris would not stop cussing or whatever. So he kinda ruined that for himself. They offered me a chance, and you are damn straight I went for it, as anyone would.
So let’s clear that misconception up. No hostility or anger over it.
Anyways, many people seem to think I did a good job at doing what was asked of me, which was explaining the game and things about match ups. Sure I got some things wrong and had flaws, but so did every commentator, overall I think it went well. But I guess So Cal just wants to stand up for their guy, and I can live with that.
No hard feelings, and I would love to do it again, and love to lobby SC4 coming back bigger and better next year.

It’s boring when you’re forced to stand in front of hilde and turtle to find an opportunity to attack. She’s the only character that forces people to play so different because of her steve 5.0 esque comebacks. To add insult to injury she depends on no-wall stages to ensure wins, so part of the match is decided by random luck.
This is the shit people will confuse with “playing to win”. This is not about hilde being a top tier character or a broken tier character, she’s just a poorly designed character. She shouldn’t be in tournaments because she’s undeniably broken, but because she is completely out of place in soul calibur 4. Even if you win first place with nothing but wall stages, at the end of the day you’re rooting for that random stage select to get you that tiny ass stage surrounded by ring outs because that’s the only reason competitive players will choose hilde. In the end you’re playing with dice rolls. Go play some baccarat or something, fuck outta here.
I kept trying to take the argument seriously, but you just kept coming off sounding like a smash player. Hard to do so. Using “random” in your argument to complain about something just stains it.
The end result is that only 2 Hilde’s made finals and neither got top 3.
Hard to argue it. She’s very good, and very annoying, but she can be dealt with, and that is proven.
That being said, here is to hoping Broken Destiny, brings us a patch of some sort!

It doesn’t take a genius to realise that small stages with no walls are heavily in Hilde’s favor.
In that regard, since the stage determines how heavily Hilde has an advantage over you, then yes, it totally is a dice roll (in the sense of massive advantage).
Maybe I should pick a thesaurus or something.
The stage picks are haphazard
The stage picks are arbitrary
:looney:
And good Hilde players take this into consideration when they develop their game plan. The group I play with plays a LOT differently (as in, really aggressive) against me (a Hilde player) when we get that walled cathedral than when we get the raft or labyrinth, but you know what? I PLAY DIFFERENTLY TOO. I’m at a large disadvantage, yes, and it sucks when it happens, but I take it into consideration just as Ice Climber players take it into consideration when someone picks PokeFloats or Rainbow Cruise against them. I still have a combo that does 40% off of VERY safe moves, god-like range, and I can soul crush LIKE A BOSS.
Comes down to this. Do you play your SF4 character the same against Vega as you do against Zangeif? Ask a 3S Twelve player if they use s.HK against Chun with meter (protip: you don’t) versus any other situation with block stun (protip: not too much of a reason not to). The stage is just another variable you have to deal with as Hilde, just as character (O HAI ASTAROTH) or even player (O HAI DAN THE NIGHTMARE, PLEASE 3B EVERY MOVE I HAVE) is. Learn it, know it, adjust, and move on.
Also, did Hilde win? Nope. 2nd? Nope. How about dat bronze? NO. Meanwhile, in another game, Ryu forces even the best player in America to pick a different character to stand a chance. Think about that for a while.
lolz to ring outs
I love Hilde’s character so much - I hate that she is considered cheap
You’re missing the point bro. Stage select is done ‘randomly’ therefore how much of an advantage Hilde has is random. changing your playstyle and so forth does not subvert this premise, etc.
So? That means the advantage that another character could have over Hilde, barring getting a stage with walls, is random as well.
If you want perfect scenarios where everything is concretely laid out, go play Karate Champ, son.
Honestly though, if I can ask a question that might have already been brought up somewhere else, why isn’t stage picking done in SC4 in a style that would mimic Smash? I wouldn’t say stage striking, but just in a way where it’s possible to pick your stage?
Is it possibly to counteract the edge Hilde/anyone else where certain stages present higher advantages has over the competition? Or is it “just the way it is?”
I will say one thing: I bet if they went to a stage counterpick option, sets would depend on first match, as when Hilde loses, we all know she’s going to the raft. No question. That’s all but gonna guarantee the win for Hilde.
So, playing Hilde means you might have to trust more in random then with others.
Except for Tira of course… Since she changes stance randomly on knockdown, and if you want to change stance manually there’s a chance it either just won’t work or even worse, a chance that you fail and hurt yourself.
As a SC3 Tira player, this made me sad. But if you want to play Tira, it’s just something you’ll have to deal with.
Nope, didn’t miss the point. What stage I get is the same as who I play. I can’t pick my opponent, and I can’t pick my stage. I have to adjust to things I can’t control no matter what, and if I can’t do this then I don’t deserve to win.
