Yawn.
Damn a compelling and unassailable position. Bravo.
Castlevania 2 is not the worst game ever made but yeah it’s easily the worst of the NES trilogy.
It’s okay but I’ll take 1 or 3 over it any day of the week.
Not the worst game in the series, but certainly the DMC2/DmC of the Castlevania franchise.
Actually, CV2 is DMC2, and the poor attempts to bring the series up to date with “modern console sensibilities”, i.e. unnecessary fluff and bloated budgets bogging down what should be the actual focus of Castlevania-- twitch gameplay/great music/gothic atmosphere-- are the DmCs of the series…
Part 2 is like iron man 3 and Spider-Man 3 combined in terms of shit…
I liked Iron Man 2…
What would you guys say is the best looking 16 bit game? Even though I’m a pretty big Sega fan I’ve always felt that Yoshi’s Island looks amazing.
Yoshi’s Island, Donkey Kong Country, Out of This World (AKA Another World), and Flashback.
Just going to link this:
http://mijet.eludevisibility.org/
It does not link to roms but this dude has done translations for a ton of Genesis games up to and including Yu Yu Hakusho Makyo Toitsusen and Dynamite Heady but also a patch for Shinobi 3 that allows you to disable the Kunai and use Swords only and also color edit your character.
Has anyone here completed a no-kunai bonus run with Shinobi 3? I can beat the game without using daggers, but the game resets your count to 10 if you finish a level with zero, so I can’t get the 30k bonus after level 1.
I’m a HUGE Castlevania fan. I’ve played and beaten almost every single CV game from the NES to modern day. Castlevania II is a piece of shit, it belongs in the shittiest of shit tiers right there with Castlevania: Curse of Darkness on PS2/Xbox.
You need a guide to progress in the game, and CV1, 3 and Haunted Castle are just way more fun without the tedious-ass RPG elements getting in the way.
Castlevania 2 isn’t my preferred choice either. Tien Gouki’s VHS post hit me with nostalgia over it.
Despite being crucified, it was my first Castlevania so it’s dope to me.

That is a tough one.
On the Genesis that has to be Ristar, for its rich almost SNES like color pallet. Sonic and Knuckles are a close 2nd.
Best RPG graphically is Phantasy Star IV
Best looking Arcade Port on the Genesis is Outrun.
To me the best visual 16 bit game on the Turbografx 16/ PC Engine is Castlevania Dracula X
On the Neo Geo Consoles? Last Resort or the Metal Slug Series.
On the SNES this is alot tougher.
Best looking RPG is a toss up between Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Final Fantasy VI (FF III in the US), ChronoTrigger and Seiken Densetsu 3 which graphically could pass as a Saturn or PS1 game.
Action Games: Mega Man X, Super Metroid, Super Mario World
Best looking Fighter: Street Fighter Street Fighter Alpha 2 which some feel the SNES version is superior to the PS1 and Sega Saturn versions.
Overall the best visually stunning game in my mind is Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past. Impressively huge Boss sprites, rich color palette that isn’t trying to test the hardware limits, and just alot of it is aesthetically pleasing. Many of the dungeons just give you that feeling of what kind of environment you are in by just looking at the building architecture.
Some feel Yoshi Island is better looking, but Yoshi Island needed a Co-processor in the game cart to push the systems limits, Zelda did more with less.

Best looking Fighter: Street Fighter Street Fighter Alpha 2 which some feel the SNES version is superior to the PS1 and Sega Saturn versions.

If by some you mean NOBODY, then I agree…

Well, that’s kind of a cheat. It was released on the Turbografx 16 CD. It kinda’ counts as 16 bit. The Neogeo was 24 bits kinda’. Had I known NeoGeo games counted I would agree with those choices. Pulstar looked amazing despite the slowdown. And a ton of great-looking fighters.
NeoGeo had a Motorola 68k and Z80 CPU, same CPU chips as a Genesis, just with a faster clock. “24-bit” was just a marketing term to make crystal clear that NG AES was in a different league than other home consoles at the time. Just like Genesis/SNES used “16-bit” to set them apart from NES and other “8-bit” systems.
Kill the confusion and just call the “16-bit era” the 4th generation.
That’s why I said kinda.
I always wondered what piece of hardware during that time was the true"16 bit"king in terms of processing power. It also makes me wonder the max potential of 16 bit graphics cause I know a CD format 16 bit console would be far different then a cartridge based one.
Edit: GBA is 16 bit as well so I suppose anything we saw on that system could count at reference for 16 bit power.

Minish Cap looked great. It’s a very beautiful game.
I recall the Star Wars games looked awesome in the SNES. It took me days to realize they played like shit just because of the good graphics.
I don’t believe Metroid 3 (super) had top notch graphics. In fact, I believe they sort of saved colors due to memory restrictions. Still a beautiful game, but it was supposed to be more colorful.
If you don’t want to count Dracula X from TGX, there’s the one from SNES which ripped off its sprites and, thus, looks good.
I believe Prince of Persia looked awesome, too. Specially the original (Japanese) version. Last stage dome was impressive.
Edit: I forgot the Donkey Kongs. How could I???

Source? I’ve never heard this. Still one of the best looking, and best animated games of it’s time.
