Retro Gaming Thread

is just us or retrogames are become more popular lately?

Hipsters.

what if you were born in the 80s?

The C64, while not a console, had some great games with some kick ass soundtracks.

Fucking loved my C64(s). T2, Navy Seals, Bull Dog, Dizzy series, Barbarian 2, CJ series etc.

Another good OST:

you think thats good, listen to Super Turrican 2 ost

Mother of god, I remember a lot of these games.

The Donald Duck game… holy fuck.

i miss how rpgs would let you name all of your main characters something that needs to comeback.
i remember while playing through ff8 recently and for the first time i named lion heart UR COCK. throughout the game it really didn’t give me any funny lines until the end when it just killed me.

Ultimicia said “i will now junction myself onto UR COCK!” i lost the fight because i was too busy laughing my ass off

this guy did a good job of megaman remix

Listening now…holy fuck!

Super Turrican 2 is really rare now like over 80 bucks used on snes damn lol. I dont know if anyone remembers VHS tapes, they gave tips on how to beat nes games, but most of these tapes were useless

I have some of the Game Players and Kodak video game tips vhs’s around here.

The Game Players one I just found is Vol. 1 No. 3 and in a orange slip case. Has tips for Castlevania 2, Thundercade, Strider, P.O.W., and some bonus look at the Wrestlemania game. All nes stuff. And game
players had a magazine once too. I think they did “guides” as well.

Castlevania 2!!

Is garbage!!!

In terms of RPGs, which console had the best overall would you guys say?

I only ever played mostly snes RPGs and a few genesis ones.

PSX. It’s RPG library never ends.

Says you and SuperTroll apparently. Games fine by me.

From a personal standpoint, SNES. I could (and usually do) play 'em at any opportunity.

Says me, Super Troll, and an ass load of other people.

Man that made me laugh.

SNES was built for RPGs, if you are looking for retro 16 bit RPGs look no further.
The Final Fantasy series (except for mystic quest which is horrendous), Dragon Warrior/Quest, Lufia series, SaGa Series, Chrono Trigger, D&D Eye of the Beholder, Earthbound, 7th Saga, Breath of Fire 1 and 2, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Front Mission
There also tons of RPGs that never got a US release on the SNES, Star Ocean, Bahamut Lagoon, The Sailor Moon RPG (no it is seriously good), Tales of Phantasia, Magic Knight RayEarth, Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (not to be confused with Ogre Battle) which is later ported to PS1 and PSP, Seiken Densetsu 3 (Legend of Mana sequel), the Start of the Megami Tensei Series and a whole lot other games I am missing here.

To be fair the Genesis did have some gems when it comes to RPGs, it lacked the beautiful color pallet the SNES had, but their RPGs made it up in Gameplay and story.
The Shining Series, The Phantasy Star Series, Dragon Slayer Series, Langrisser Series, Gauntlet IV, Landstalker, Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun, Sega CD had the Lunar series

And in my humble opinion the PS1 was the last great console to have some great RPGs.
Wild Arms, The Remake of the Lunar series, Arc the Lad Collection, Super Robot Wars Alpha, Xenogears, Breath of Fire 3 and 4, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Grandia, Valkyrie Profile
