I thought GWED was the best looking 16-bit fighter…

Alpha 1? Umm…
If you say so bro.

Lol 16 bits. Back then nobody knew wtf bits were but if you had more it was like hot dayum lolol! Man we have come such a long way.

Alpha 1 has to be one of the ugliest fighters ever made, no matter the platform.

That game was shit. The reason why it was made is somewhat interesting. Fans in the West wanted Rondo of Blood to get ported to a system that was actually popular outside Japan. Konami signed a contract with Hudson Soft that Rondo was to be a console exclusive game. To get around this, Konami used the assets from Rondo and created a pseudo new game/remake that played like a much slower version of Rondo without the cutscenes and a music downgrade. To be fair, the music was still good in the SNES port. Dracula X on the SNES was basically Rondo of Blood with some significant changes made because of hardware limitations and legal reasons. Though, I don’t see how it was legal because it’s basically the same game but I assume they got away with it in the same way that game companies got away with blatantly ripping off the Alien and Predator films from back in the day.

In the end: Dracula X was very slow (slower than Castlevania 4 if you can believe it) and while it had good music and made good use of Rondo’s assets it just feels like a retread. If you’ve played Rondo there is no reason to play this other than curiosity. Also, it has the cheapest final battle with Dracula in the entire series.

SNES Dracula X is a pretty good game…but it pales compared to Rondo.

Better then CV2 tho

Rondo of Blood is still kicking my ass.

Once I’m done I’m thinking of picking up the GBA entries and try my hand at that being that I’ve never played em.

Outside of that though, any input on the 3D Castlevania titles for N64, PS2 and PS3 (that I know of)?

CV2 was my first CV game as a kid, but even then, I have no love/nostalgia for it. Boxart/cartridge art looks cool though, I still have my NES cart.

SNES Dracula X is more difficult than Rondo, and Rondo is overall better, but I still really like Dracula X. In a lot of ways it’s a completely different game than Rondo.

I still think Super Mario World is the best looking SNES game.

I would say Pulseman probably stands out to me as the best “16bit” game, period.

A lot of people have never even played it (MegaDrive I believe, but I got to play it because I was one of like 3 people with the Sega Channel), but it’s damn pretty. Has subpar sound, tho

I think that honor goes to Yoshi’s Island. I’m a little iffy on the gameplay, but the graphics are fucking beautiful.

Alpha 2* is what I meant…

But yeah, Alpha 1 was horribly ugly.
Alpha 2 on SNES was ugly as fuck compared to the PSX/Saturn versions.

Anyway, I’m going to say the best graphics on SNES…
FF6, Chrono Trigger, DKC as a series, Super Metroid, LttP, Secret of Mana 1&2, Yoshi’s Island, Mario RPG, Rendering Ranger, Axelay (I think that’s the name… crazy shmup), MMX2 and 3, SC4 was the first time I ever saw transparency in a game, Tales of Phantasia…

And for the Genesis, speaking of 16-bit games…
Sonic 3D Blast, Vectorman, Panorama Cotton, Gunstar Heroes, Sonic 3, Contra Hardcorps, Castlevania Bloodlines with it’s paralax scrolling, Ranger X, Sonic & Knuckles

That’s all I can think of on Genesis… I didn’t get a Genesis until high school, which was after I got a PS1 and Dreamcast, sadly…

DKC for best-looking 16 bit game. Best looking Neo Geo game was RBFF2 or Garou.

Eh, Rondo is one of the easiest games in the Classicvania series, even easier than SCIV IMO, especially if you’re playing as Maria Renard - her walkspeed is faster than Richter’s, her tiny hitbox size makes it harder for her to be hit by enemies, her doves are better than Richter’s whip and her double jumps and amazing air control pretty much break the game’s platforming segments.

But even playing as Richter, I didn’t find any of Rondo’s levels particularly difficult or frustrating. Even stage 5’, which is supposed to be the hardest Rondo has to offer, still pales in comparison to CVIII’s trickiest platforming segments.

Still a good game overall, but when I first played it I was expecting something far more challenging.

Has anyone tried samurai showdown 2 on the ipad yet?

I’ve seen 4 people with Superman avatars…
I keep thinking it’s @goodm0urning
Y’all need to stop copying him… Only one person around these parts should have a Superman avatar, and that man claimed it.
It’s like those couples on Facebook that have the same fucking image of the two of them… smh, unoriginal fucks. Keep it real goodm0urning… The rest of y’all suck a nut.

Strider is so hard…

Something about super mario world never sat right with me. Most of the worlds and design choices just made the whole game feel a bit bland to me. I’d argue that the super mario 3 remake looks better then super mario world.

anyone here ever play snow bros? it is one of my favorite arcade games ever and still play it till this day.
much better than bubble bobble.

Still trying to find that racing game I played on the Sega Channel. It lets you create your own tracks and lets you build loops and stuff.

I don’t think it’s a smart idea to re-release Pulseman until they tone down the sezure inducing.

Phantasy Star IV > FF6 >>>>>> Chrono Trigger.

In case anyone’s confused.
