What are either of you talking about? Not only are there more then two fps’es for RE, (4 by my count. Survivor 1 + 2, Dead Aim and UC. RE4 is as much an fps as Gears of War, guys, it’s a third person shooter), but Survivor and possibly Dead Aim are slightly more worthy of main game status, more so than UC, which does nothing particularly new.
I don’t get this whole “Old RE only had zombies” mentality though, like RE4 was some extreme evolution in the enemy design and A.I of the series. What about Hunters and Lickers? Brain Suckers and Demon Dogs? Bosses like the Snake or Black Tiger or Nemesis? They were all designs that were generally quite dangerous (ok, maybe not the dogs) but had specfic weaknesses, patterns. I swear, RE made me remember shit like the Hunters mostly attacking with their left hands or running attracting Dogs or being able to stop the Snake’s bites by hitting him in the mouth as he attacks in OG PS RE. (Only way to kill him well in an only Knife run.)
Anyone else taken a peek at Dead Space? It still looks really rough but it shows potential to be a HELL of a fucking survival horror game. Like RE + Doom 3 on crack.
It’s not very long but I guess for a first timer it would be something like 7 hours or so. One thing I found out is that the mercenaries games you get once you beat it are EXTREMELY fun. I thought they were boring but once you try and take out the village full of bella sisters and no ammo. :bgrin:
To me with RE4 we FINALLY had enemies that would overwhelm you with numbers and could fuck you up on top of that. They coordinated attacks(this is mainly once you hit the castle and beyond).
The Old RE had some good enemies but REALLY the zombies were a joke and really didn’t have that sense of “oh my god they might fuck me up”.
RE4 stepped up the series big time and i can MAYBE understand if some of the old RE veterans didn’t like how RE4 came out.
To be honest, I actually really like RE4 for exactly that reason, shit completely hits the fan in this game. It’s easily the scariest game in the series to me for this reason. My prob is just that the game doesn’t make you have to figure things out with the enemies particularly or give you the chance to make your own choices about whether you want to run away from the bastards. It makes it kinda boring when you know you can really only shoot them in the head.
I really liked RE4 but, the scariest part of the game had to be the regenerators for me. I was extremely low on ammo and when I got to the thermal goggles I assumed that unfreezing the thing would revive 4-5 of them and didn’t get them. RE:2 still remains the scariest of all time since I was pretty young when I played it. I’m looking forward to RE:5 and I think it’s the same premise with the smart infected as RE:4 and I don’t mind it one bit.
Well it took me about 15-20 hours at least the first time through. This is, of course if your not trying to rush thru it and your exploring every place the game has to offer.
The only part that startled me was Oven-Man. I almost jumped right off the bed when that shit happened.
The scariest RE for me is REMake. Those fucking red-death zombies man… be chasin’ your shit from one room to the next.
But I didn’t resurrect this thread just to state that. What I wanted to say is this:
I wish Capcom included co-op RE4:Wii. Split horizontal screen and the ability to control Leon and Ada, or Luis. I know it would fuck with the story but we’ve all played it enough that we don’t care about the story anymore than once.
I also just got a Gamecube again. I gave my last one to my son so he could play Godzilla any time he wanted too now that I can’t see him every weekend like I used too. Anyways, just got one used for $30.00 from Gamestop, and I popped in RE4 again… it’s like a long lost lover that you haven’t seen in years. :lovin:
So. Any updates on RE5 anywhere that I haven’t heard?
Nope. We probably won’t hear anything until after DMC4 is released if I remember correctly. Maybe at e3. But I want them to hold off on images and hype until the game is nearer to the release date.
I agree. Honestly, I’d rather be ignorant to the games production and get a trailer a few months before its release rather than a year/two years in advance.
I will agree that REmake did put fear for me back into the series…Crimson head zombies on hard mode really made me sweat. I do love RE4 but Co-op doesn’t seem right in the main story…I’d love to have them bring back the merc minigame but online…2 player go at it and see who can gain a higher score as both characters fight in the same area…
Now that Wesker has all variants of the virus…it would be interesting to see him mix Las Plagas with the G-virus…and I want a game with LEon and Chris both beasting tag team style!
RE-Remake was the scariest imo, that little daughter, who sewed her parents face on her own face…she was imo the scariest damn thing I saw in RE. Especially her damn cries shivers.
The mansion to me is still the creepiest place in all of the RE games. However, RE2 is hands down, imo, the best RE game of all time. I really loved the game alot, and it was the one that I completely owned up.
I remember, all of the regular zombies, I could avoid every single one except two spots in which you HAD to get hit. + Beating the entire game with only the HandGun felt very satisfying at the time.
RE4 definetly had the single best AI mob’s though. They where smart, especially when you tried to aim for their heads for the first time, and they’d duck or Sidestep to the right and you’d be like “WTF?!”.
I remember getting my ass pawned at the village by the chainsaw guy…that wasn’t fun at all . However, the game got ridiculously easy once you pulled off the “shoot the head, then kick them and pull out your knife mentality”.
Really conserved me on my ammo. I really liked the RE series, the only one that I didn’t get to play enough of was RE3 with Claire.
I played the old RE games a while ago. Recently I picked up RE4 for the PC, and now its really hard to go back to the older games, mainly because of the first person control scheme and fixed cameras. But I guess those things made the series unique at the time.
RE4 is by far my favorite game of the series. I still shiver, just for a second, when the Super Dr. Salvador leaps up the ladder towards me, even though I can hear him coming a mile off. The Vertugo boss was a real bugger too, but then I found out you could tip over the nitrogen tanks.
I just went to GameStop and bought a used Gamecube so I could play RE4 again. That game is like a booty call that will deliver anytime of the day or night and without complaints or requesting a dinner/movie.
