Capcom’s original sales forecast for the game was 7 million. When it got slammed by many reviews they lowered the forecast to 6 mil. They also had over 500 people work on it so that must have really drove up the cost. Personally, I feel it was too soon for Capcom to call it a failure. The PC version hasn’t dropped yet
The addition of the L4D characters and enemies for starters.
Honestly, RE6 wasn’t a shit game. It was a B grade game that lacked something that made RE4 and to an extent RE5 very much fun games.
Sales of that version could push it into successful territory. Unlike console games, Capcom can still get money from the PC version years after it’s release. If it gets a decent mod scene it’ll generate more money.
It was a C Grade game. And keep in mind this is coming from someone who always tries to play UP games no matter the flaws.
It wasn’t even enough that it wasn’t that great from a technical or straight up standpoint. It just lacked a soul. Say all you want about RE5, but at least the game had a soul. Just something that felt…right, even though that it wasn’t to the pinnacle of what it was supposed to be. It wasn’t perfect, wasn’t great but if nothing else you wanted to come back to it for the Mercenaries. I don’t even want to do that with RE6.
I’ll admit this and it sucks to say it but I had to begrudgingly play through RE6’s campaign if only because of the trophies. I never had that feeling with RE5 because it was fun. Now saying all that, I do enjoy the hell out of RE6’s Mercenaries.
Leon’s Campaign was decent enough (though like I’ve said on other occasions…he REALLY needs to have an outing without Ada trailing behind, it’s killing his street cred). And Ada’s was fine due to the Carla fight…and the fact that I enjoy bows and crossbows…kind of want to take an archery class.
Recently re-played RE4, REmake, and will try to finish 0 and Code Veronica X after years of putting it off. I’ve also seen all the live action and both of the Capcom CGI movies. I am ready for RE6’s PC release… am I setting myself up for disappointment?
Even if you keep your expectations low you’ll still find something to disappoint you. It’s a disappointing game all around even for the people who love it. At least you’ll have all the updates, bells and whistles that we got over the course of a few months from the start. Adjustable Camera being one of them.
RE6 was just bad. I don’t have any issues with the new improved melee and controls but the way they handled single player was terrible. It was the pacing, too scripted, relentless stupid boss battles, QTEs, over-the-top action like the Harrier scene, and other nonsense. After Simmons boss battle on the train, Leon and Helena climbs out of the river and you’re forced to slowly walk to end the chapter. At the beginning of chapter 5 of Chris’s campaign, you watch a cutscene, do nothing but walk to a door and watch another cutscene. And What’s up with the lighting? You can’t see shit any further from a few foot ahead in certain areas until walk to it as if there’s a little spot light hovering over your head.
At least RE5 had extra content worthwhile to make another play through. All guns were accessible to Sheva and Chris. Both had a unique weapon: bow and minigun. Gun upgrades. Extra costumes. And above all, the RPG wasn’t scripted and limited to one use.
Considering the huge price drop RE6 took after just a few months pretty much says it all.
Extra emphasize! Upgrading gear makes more sense than upgrading one’s abilities in the world of RE. People come to the fight already at the peak of their training. Especially 6 out of the 7 cast members. Shit even Sherry is a beast so 7 out of 7. I should be finding parts or money to make my guns better. I should be able to change my guns to fit my style to make it feel more like it’s me and less like a hand guided experience. RE4 introduced a great system of having different pistols that could suit one’s style of play and RE5 further refined that. RE6 is so damned counter intuitive about the whole thing. What a mess!
Like all REs before 6, RE5 understood what it meant to be RE. Even with the damn co-op lol. The game at least makes it clear to you why you need your partner, why you need to share resources, why you go where you go, etc. And because the chapters were smaller affairs in RE5 it made it easier to play online with someone. Like Capcom should know better than to do what they did with RE6’s level lengths. An hour TOPS is as long as it should take for people to co-op before they get to the next end of the chapter menu. It really should be like 30-45mins tops. Lost Planet 2 was even smart enough to have chapters in the game further divided into smaller chunks so if people had to dip out they could without losing progress.
It just makes me so mad too. Like I feel bad for wanting to sell RE6 because I really enjoy RE games but I have zero desire to play it again. Like I could see myself getting the superior PC version in the future but… Yeah fuck it I’m selling RE6 for RE:R. I don’t need to swallow it’s crap anymore. I know there is better. I know Capcom can do better.
