Message my gamertag if anyone is interested in playing some RE5 Merc’s
IGN’s take on resetting the Resident Evil franchise
Honestly i’m still not too keen on bringing back zombies. Frankly I could care less about how good Left 4 Dead or Dead Rising made zombies cool again. I would rather they just retool the leech controlled enemies.
Some of the other stuff like the menu options for the items and giving a sense of confinement I’ll agree with.
It’d be crazy if in the next game the zombies/majini were more like the zombies in 28 days later. It’s pretty stupid now how these dudes are supposed to be super aggresive running up to you then stop 5 feet in front of you and walking the rest of the way. They’d have to make the controls a bit more loose but being swarmed would be so much more exciting if you couldn’t run right passed these guys.
See thats the thing i want them to do, though those tribal enemies were aggressive as hell during the ruin/pyramid area especially the big ass one with the mask.
Any consensus on gun tiers for Sheva?
I still pretty early in the game (2-1) but the MP5 is looking pretty solid with the massive magazine and pierce ability.
So basically…they want RE1 back.
Can’t spell “ignorant” without “IGN”, indeed.
I don’t see why they couldn’t just mix them. The RE4/5 “zombies” are fun to fight. They retooled something from the old and mixed it with the new in this one. They should have brought back the hunters.
As for the use of light in RE5…well, light isn’t even the reason why it’s not scary. Just because something is dark, doesn’t mean it’s going to be all OMFG scary. Dead Space really wasn’t that scary…at all, and it was dark as fuck most of the time. They just didn’t feel the need to scare players in RE5, and it shows. Besides, a good amount of the scares in the series were done in nicely lit rooms, INSIDE.
I agree with most of the other comments though.
About the menu system. Yea…it’s a pain at first, but after some time with it, it becomes second nature. Set up whatever you need on the dpad, and put the ammo of the gun you use most, or of the gun with the longest reload time, in the center. That way when you need to reload you can bring up the menu, hit X (or whatever it is on ps3), move the cursor to the gun, hit X again, and pop out of the menu. That takes all of 3 seconds and you skip the reload animation. If you are scared you’re going to need healing, then keep an herb on the quick select menu. I can’t recall if you can organize your stuff when you’re climbing a ladder or something, if so, do that. Have your partner watch your back when you go to the menu. This system keeps things moving.
Outbreak already nullifies any argument against co-op in Resident Evil anything. Just because you have a partner, doesn’t mean that it’s going to detract from the “scary atmosphere”. People played System Shock 2 with co-op, and that sure as fuck didn’t make the game less scary.
Oh…and the death sequence need to return from RE4. They suck ass here, except the one where you get bit in half.
edit: Matter of fact, fuck the notion of bringing Dead Space’s limb removal shit. House of the Dead and Resident Evil were doing that shit years ago. I dunno why RE stopped. I still remember crawling zombies and shit, from RE2.
I honestly don’t think it’s over the shoulder action that is ruining Resident Evil. It’s simply their art direction that isn’t doing the scaring. If they made Majini’s more gruesome looking like Zombie’s and used the same art style for their setting like in RE : Remake, they can totally pull it off.

psh we should be done with RE and try to reboot Dino Crisis with 4. worked for RE
but seriously you REALLY expect to go back to RE1 and all after going through this? stop being nostalgic and either take in the new or stick to the old. same reason people complain about Mario sunshine or whatever. “waaaah! no more of the same! we want something fresh!” developers change it up “waah! this is too different! bring back the classic style!”
people love to bitch.
I’m actually feeling pretty positive about RE5. The game is fun, mercenaries is addicting, the soundtrack is amazing and the game is definitely replayable. I’m just still bummed I haven’t jumped out of my chair once, freaked out by some scary looking Majini coming out of nowhere in the game.
i am 100% with the article but it’s funny that this is coming from the same guys that praised the game so much just a few days ago.
I don’t care if they bring back the old zombies, I just want the old camera style (with a new inventory system…).
And Merchant/Hustle Man.
5 was dope as hell, but it wasn’t scary worth a damn.
I’m up to 4-2 and the game is really starting to grow on me. The fight on the boat was crazy.
Some scares would have been nice but so far I’ve had some pretty big wtf moments when the mutations happen.
Which chapter is the best for making money?
I sort of agree with the article, but reverting it back to the old RE may not be the answer. 5 was missing something for sure, but making it like dead space or L4D is stupid. Just bring back the core atmospheric elements that made RE4 tense and up the difficulty of the enemies. Lose the outside environments and the hell with zombies using guns and rocket launchers.
Fuck anyone who played the old re’s before 5 knows wtf is missing from this game.
Concerning that talk of rebooting the series or whatever… They could bring back true zombies while still keeping the newer control/aiming scheme. I really do miss zombies. Las Plagas are alright too though. You could possibly even intermix the two in the same game. When I first got to the old Umbrella lab retooled as a Tricell lab in RE5, and started seeing Lickers crawling around, I thought maybe some zombies were gonna show up. No reason you couldn’t have zombies and Las Plagas in the same game.
One thing about the RE4/5 controls though, I really feel that you should at least be able to walk while aiming. Maybe not run, but at least walk. Stop-n-shoot is unneeded and realistically doesn’t even make sense. Especially with how aggressive some of the enemies in 5 can be.
I find it ridiculous that people are saying the game isn’t “scary” but have nothing to say about the terrible single player partner AI.
The game doesn’t have cheap jump scares. If you want those go play Doom 3…zombie closets yay. But that game wasn’t very “horrific”. This game on the other hand is quite horrific, I mean when I’ve got my back to a wall, and there’s a messed up looking guy with a burlap sack on his head and has a chainsaw running at me (along with half a dozen crazed african villages bearing down on me) I consider that a pretty horrific situation. All I can say is RE5 got my heart pumping just as much as the other games (maybe a bit too much due to the crap partner AI, outdated controls and garbage inventory system).
Either way I’m pretty surprised Capcom didn’t manage to make this game better than RE4…they actually managed to make it worse.
I just picked the game up and need someone to play it through with (AI is fucking awful). Anyone game?
GT- Bodom Soldier (West cooaaast)
Imo the multiplayer aspect makes up for the single player story. RE4 is definetly the better game solo tho.
Oh and im sorry…but zombies were NEVER scary. They were slow and easy as hell to get away from. Las plagus>Zombies. I do kinda like Remys idea tho…seeing both in one game would be dope. The zombies would need a serious mobility upgrade tho. For me what made the earlier RE scary was the weird eerie music/atmosphere and shit popping up out of nowhere…examples being the licker in the interogation room in RE2, or dogs/zombies breaking throw windows/doors etc…
I do agree with Colguile that las plagus carrying bowguns, rpgs and chainguns is kinda pushing it too much. That shit isnt scary…it just gives me a wtf face.
Idk…maybe playing RE5 in one of the graphic filters might make it more horrific?
Edit: And iirc you couldnt move and shoot in any of the REs. Id doubt they start now. Even tho it makes sense…i just dont see them doing it. It would take away from the nervous feel of it imo.
I’m game, I’ll probably be playing later on today, I’ll add you but I’m on chapter 2-2 on hard so let me know when you get that far and I’ll invite you in…
