I really dont get the nitpicking. You were already looking to bash by noticing jagged lines on shadows i mean really.
You obviously cant please everyone. The story naturally progressed to what it is now. The intentions of B.O.W.s were always meant to be used as political weapons. Why this is a sudden shock to so many so called resident evil fans is pretty hilarious. The days of navigating a narrow corridor where your controls magically reverse and you are thrusted into the arms of a zombie are over. Just cut the bs, if its not your thing so be it but the trolling has got to end.
Most of us were kids when we played RE the first time what part of nostaliga isnt clicking with some of you guys? Leons chapter was pretty close to the old re experience that i remember.
Im just not getting all this bitching like where can fans of the series post without having to filter through so much of some people overdramatizing the experience? So annoying.
PS- For the people complaining about aim taking up too much space on camera…thats why you have side switch.
Side switching is cool, but I wouldn’t recommend using it unless you’re in cover. You’re vulnerable when you switch, because it stops what you’re doing, before you change positions. On high difficulties it’s going to be suicide out in the open, thanks to how easy it is for you to get stunned and knocked down. It’s also doesn’t solve the issue that one tries to correct with it. The character still takes up the same amount of space.
For the kids trying to do advance shit, I’m certain you can cancel the reload of the rifle by switching weapons.
Yeah, since someone mentioned it, fuck not being able to shoot at any enemy on the ground until a trigger. I mean, I’m not a fucking moron, it’s pretty damn obvious that the dead body in the middle of the freaking hall is gonna be a zombie, you mind if I can shoot at its head from a distance rather than having to run up on it and waste valuable health? If there’s anything that did piss me off in the demo, it’s THAT.
Yes side switch reload is still there i posted about that a week or two ago.
The thing thats just crucial especially if you want to make an argument about the old games being so epic is positioning. You have to get in a good spot so that youre free to not feel limited by having that blind spot. Thats not a legit complaint imho, you have to be pretty obnoxious to just stand there aiming and complaining that something came out of nowhere and hit you because first person aim got in the way. RE4 and 5 spoiled people into standing still, not to mention you can walk and aim in this.
Also your view is widened greatly if you jump back to the floor.
In the end RE6 is going to be fine people complain way too much.
You guys have got to customize your controls btw. I upped the camera and gun aiming speed to 10. Feels like night and day. You should try it. That plus laser sight and this experience is very enjoyable for me.
Gun aiming on the ground is also faster. I also noticed:
-you can do a running slide into cover, and from cover you can lean back into prone fire and roll around cover to get the drop on enemies.
-If youre running away to get some space slide then instantly pull back and the dash button: instant 180degree turn + aim.
This slide duck and cover mechanic is whats going to make this game. Im trying to figure shit out as type.
Also that screeching javo enemy is dumb easy. You can command duck under the shits it spits at you they are less of a threat than the gun javo.
I played through all three campaings. I thought the demo was fun. The new controls took a little getting use to. The cover mechanic is pure ass. I don’t understand why they map aiming and cover to the same fucking button.
I didnt understand that either until i realized youre not supposed to act like youre playing gears. Youre supposed to slide into cover as sliding has invincibility to gunfire. Its purely to avoid enemy fire. In that respect it makes sense. I was walking up to cover and trying to hide and ended up aiming at it, running slide into cover it works like a charm.
You can hide inside that locker in Jakes section lol. Dunno why.
Sniper rifle with 10 speed and shoulder switch instant reload is S tier.
Point being in the end this game is going to serve its purpose like every other RE:
1.Play for the story
2. Play for unlockables
3-100000. Pro speed runs/ game breaking
In that respect the little pointless pieces here and there add up especially with the new movement system. I guess im seeing things down the line and not busting the games chops over silly shit. Graphics arent the best but pretty damn good im on my 3rd run of Jakes and the combat has become so engaging and fluid its maddening how effortless you can go from running to sliding over a table to jumping up a ladder etc etc
I’m still not sure why someone thought this style of movement with this style of camera was a good idea, especially when the movement is this loose and sloppy. Yeah, I guess you can “adjust” to it, but it’s still awful. Controls more like Dead Space or Shadows of the Damned would have served the game much better, and it would have made the new movement options more intuitive.
I fucking hate the idea of putting character skills and other RPG bullshit in an action game like this, both from a gameplay and narrative standpoint. Leon and Chris have been seasoned, whompin’-stompin’ badasses for awhile now, but now they have to improve their skills for some reason.
Honestly, I really only give a fuck about Mercenaries mode anyway since RE5’s singleplayer basically became that of an RE movie, soulless and thoroughly unenjoyable. At least RE4: Bad Dudes was aware of how ridiculous it was and was enjoyable because of it.
Wait, the DD demo was WORSE than this one I just tried off of PSN? Cause I found this one to be absolutely terrible, the older build must have been complete dog shit.
It was more because of the level choices and not so much the the controls. Leon’s section was like the very beginning of the game and it forced you to walk around up until the very last few minutes of it.
I get what you are saying YahYaahh but the camera is still stupid. A good game shouldn’t ask the player to change their controls that much to make due. Like Lost Planet 2 had some really complicated controls but they worked. Having to tweak all these setting is unnecessary. It should just be good out of the gate. Only thing that people might need to adjust is the camera speed and direction. I’ll take your advice and try some things out but the game could have used more refinement. Like why is there even a crosshair. What crackhead complained about RE4/5’s laser? Thing let you be so accurate that you could shoot arrows out of the air. I don’t want to equip a skill to do that. I should be doing that from the start! And if indeed many of these changes were made to suit as many of you say “CoD” players are diehard CoD players going to play RE6 like that in the first place? It’s not that kind of game and never should be. RE5 sold several million copies so I just don’t buy into everyone’s supposed idea of Capcom’s reasoning behind many of these changes.
And what’s with the Dead Rising 2 hate? What do you people have against Dead Rising 2?The story might not have been as good as DR1 but graphics, gameplay, and control wise DR2 is better.
What I want to know is how standards became so low. I hear a lot of “well it’s pretty bad but such and such aspect is good” in this thread. Fuck that, it should be that most of the aspects are good with maybe 1 or 2 things that aren’t, not the other way around.
Also, what the fuck at someone mentioning that nostalgia should be kicking in and essentially suggesting that it should cloud/sway our better judgement into liking the game more. That’s some of the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard.
Standards might be low or…maybe, just maybe, people actually gasp like the game for what it is. Sounds crazy, but some people actually had a blast playing RE6.
(Not directed at you) All bs aside, in the back of my mind I think people are just hating this game due to Capcom’s previous fuck-ups. 10% of the complaints are the legit, the rest are “because Capcom”. I could be wrong tho
I can see what they were going for. I just think there are a lot of problems with the execution. If this didn’t have the RE name attached to it, I probably wouldn’t give the demo as many chances as I have since playing yesterday.
Doing a knife run with Leon is fun. You can play it like a faux GodHand, thanks to the dodges.
Well sure, not everyone is going to think it’s shitty, but I hear a lot of underlying denial in this thread. I’m simply putting my disappointment front and center. Why does the camera suck, why are the menus are a mess, why does the melee and obstacle traversal feel sloppy, etc. I hear people addressing these things, but then it’s almost like they add some spin on it as if they don’t want to believe it sucks, or at the very least is mediocre. For a RE game, this falls far short of expectations control and camera wise at least.
i agree with what someone else said about this that if it didnt have the RE name attached to it it would just be a pretty iffy 3rd person shooter. the more i play it the less and less i can actually see myself buying the full game atm. the controls are so loose and just lack the feeling of any kind of weight. when you can spin the stick and your character can turn on a dime that is not a good feeling imo. i hate how when you walk backwards the character turns towards the camera instead of walking backwards. the new inventory system is shit esp when you have lots of weapons like playing with sherry and jake, and would hope the full game doesnt give you so many weapons at the same time. lack of upgradeable weapons is a big no no, the cover system is a mess, the QTE section in leons bit is god awful. both chris and jakes parts feel like they will just end up being COD clones.
i was really looking forwards to this game but have been left pretty underwhelmed by the demo. when resi was rebooted with 4 i agreed with a lot of the changes they made (and i still go back and play the old ones for my classic resi fix) but i dont think the game needed this kind of overhaul again so soon. why couldnt they have just tweaked and improved on resi 4/5 formula instead of giving us something completely different again?
im gonna go back and try the demo more as well (ive done maybe 3 play throughs of each campaign so far) and see if i can see myself not feeling like im just playing COD and being in gunfights the whole time. but im really considering just maybe getting something else instead of this like dishonoured maybe.
i only recently got round to playing dead space but the way the controls are in that game gave me faith that resi 6 could be good with the whole moving + aiming thing since the controls in that are friggin spot on good. capcom seem to have really missed the mark on that one though.
As I type this, Sherry is climbing a ladder- you know, the one she needs to climb so I can progress? As soon as she reaches the top, she turns and falls back down it and starts climbing again. This is quality stuff. I think I’m going to take a video of it on my laptop and put it on Youtube.
