Resident Evil 6

Yeah, the demo excuse has never flown with me. And the demo excuse -might- have excused the Dragons Dogma demo… but this is the final demo, and the game has been Gold for weeks. These ARE the final controls. These ARE the final graphics and framerate.

Unless they patch in better controls, camera, and framerate, then I am passing on this. This will be the first RE game that I skip. This coming from someone who purchased every RE game since 2 DAY 1.

And say what you will about RE5… I played the demo COUNTLESS times, and was super stoked DAY 1 of that shit… and don’t regret it for a second. Was it as good as 4? No. Could it have been “more scary”… Idk, RE4 wasn’t scary, I never understood that argument. I thought 5 had great atmosphere. And yeah it’s more of a TPS than a “survival horror”, but you know what, it played GREAT and it looked FANTASTIC and it was rock solid 30 fps (360 version).

I dunno what you talking about.

When Barry possibly found Chris’ blood on the ground in RE and just sat there I nearly shit my pants.

RE1? Really? I played it when it first came out and it was creepy as hell. REmake added to the creepiness w new areas. The camera looking down from up high with all the crows just chillin, the graveyard section… Even little touches like spiders on the wall that you think for a second might be on the tv itself…And i think theres alot of scares from dogs jumping through windows sharks biting you that hunchback chick. If the hunters didnt scare you youre either nuts, havent played the old ones in a while or are simply tough as nails haha.

What I wanna know is. Why is it chugging so bad? What is the technical hangup? Everything about the visuals, from the lighting, to the models, to the zombies, to the textures, to the size of the areas, is a complete step down from RE5. What the hell happened?

It shouldn’t take 20 minutes to get the hang of a games controls. And it took me about that long as well, with some tweaking, to get them playable for me. I’m used to the them, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t still awful. I’d get more in depth with it, but I already deleted this demo.

Can’t believe I just said that about a Capcom AAA internal Japanese game. Let alone a Resident Evil. Man…

As for the demos age. This demo is from June. The game went Gold in August. I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

As someone that watched a lot of horror movies growing up, all that shit is nothing but gimmicky cheap scares. It did nothing for me. If it scared you, thats fine but again it does nothing for me.

Besides, what demos have you played on live that are drastically or even remotely for that matter, different than the final version. This is the game people lets be real here.

I’m not saying it’s just trendy to hate it as the only reason to hate it. I’m saying, it’s freaking premature to say it’s worse than RE5 from a Demo. On the same note, it’s also premature to proclaim any greatness from RE6 either, so don’t get that part twisted from me, and if I came off like that, I apologize. I decently enjoyed the demo for a bit, but it’s just a demo. I’m not gonna try to scrutinize every detail from it. Just get a general feel for everything, and be done with it. What we don’t need is overreactions from either side of the coin.

As for frame rate issues, I’m legitimately asking what are you talking about? I tend to be sensitive to that, and I felt nothing out of the ordinary. Now, I am recovering from…well a plethora of disease right now, so maybe my senses aren’t the best but I saw nothing that deserves the title of “WORST FRAME RATE IN THE HISTORY OF VIDEO GAMES”.

As for the older games, no they weren’t that creepy. Maybe when I was 10, now I feel absolutely no dread for the games. The only dread I ever get was from the Reapers from RE5, and that’s annoyance more than anything because nothing pisses me off more than getting IK’d late in a damn good Mercs round because I misplaced a Proximity Mine and a Reaper snuck up on me. RE1, REmake? I’m being real, I’m not feeling it. Honestly, video games are extremely hard to make actually creepy, and RE has NEVER pulled it off contrary to popular belief.

Im a horror buff no question but whether or not it scared you doesnt mean it is or isnt scary. The atmosphere I feel is universally creepy like who doesnt get that? I guess if you dont thats your opinion and while I disagree, cool, its your opinion but when a hunter crashes through a window knowing you havent saved in a while, knowing he can take your head in 1 shot its scary. Its undebateable.

people were saying exactly the same thing about the resi 5 demos controls. stuff like “well its the demo and i heard they were making big changes to the control scheme so hopefully the tank controls will be fixed”

errr. how about no. at this stage in the game there is literally nothing that will change between this demo and the final release. (im also wondering if the gun glitching through leons legs while he is led on his back is gonna stay as well since you can obviously tell they used the same animation for the top half of his body as he uses while standing as well which is incredibly lazy tbh.)

and no this is not an old demo either its totally different from the one that came with dragons dogma. you dont even play the same sections of the game!

saying controls arent bad because you can get used to them in 20 mins is not even a valid arguement. especially since a lot of us are gamers of considerable years (22+ for me) we are used to switching controls every 5 mins so its not an issue most of the time. just because a rocket scientist says advanced algebra is easy doesnt mean people dont struggle with it.

You have to learn the controls to ANY game to be good at it, the time it took to get the hang of it is irrelevant, some people learn slower than others. Me and my buddy ran through the whole demo in less than 15 minutes recieving little to no damage. Its seems like you have a personal issue going with the game. Its not the game’s fault you suck

Now if you have a problem with the camera or graphical issues I can understand, but I don’t really see your beef with the controls as legit. But like I said, if you just plain don’t like the game, I can more than respect that. I can play it just fine, everybody has a different opinion,

Tank controls for old REs took 1 minute to learn and 5-10 to get good at. Off subject, just putting that out there.

You lunatic, the Resi series changed gamers consciousness profoundly, RE is the godfather of gore. When it came out it was banned in some countries.

Lots of copiers made us forget how powerful RE actually was

Download the RE5 demo on 360. Now play the RE6 demo immediately after. RE5 is a buttery smooth 30FPS with motion blur to boot… now that’s an oxymoron in itself, “buttery smooth 30”, but for console you can’t expect 60 FPS with graphics the level of RE5, it’s just not possible…

Anyways. RE6, in every area accept maybe the vacant hallways… anywhere with zombies, especially the outside of the Leon demo, is something like 22-26 FPS… it makes my head hurt just thinking about it.

That is not acceptable for a 360 title released in 2012. That’s not acceptable for a 360 title released in 2005!

Problems with the demo obviously go way beyond just framerate issues. But you asked, I don’t know what to tell you. Are you a PS3 gamer? Cause I have heard many games on that system range from 22-26 FPS… then there are some people who just can’t tell, here and on NeoGAF forums… some people can’t tell 30 from 60 FPS… others don’t know or notice screen tearing when it’s everywhere… I’m not saying you’re one of those people. Also feel better and good luck with your recovery homey.

No I’m not a PS3 gamer. Hell, the most I’ve even played on a PS3 was at NEC last year since it was a PS3 tourney (hence me having to get an Eightarc since borrowing sticks sucks).

But I’m being serious, I didn’t notice any problems, however I will acknowledge that I do not have the optimal conditions. Like I said, I’m recovering from a plethora of shit, and my TV is on its last legs so in any case, if there is a problem I’d be less likely to notice. If the frame rate problems are true, then I’ll obviously let that go. But after all the shit that’s happened in the past few years, I’m trying to be done with judging a game so immediately.

Yes, this is a more finalized demo and I realize it’s likely gonna be a good representation of what we’re gonna see, but I still want to see more before a final decision. I’ll sort of compare Arkham Asylum’s demo. Looked freaking great, game looked to be a 10/10. Now, the final game was still damn great, but it lowered itself to around 9/10 due to Detective Mode being way too strong and the bosses being fucking horrible. The demo showed most of what we would see in the game, but those two problems (the latter more than the former) weren’t pronounced until the final game.

Now, am i saying you guys should go out and buy it despite your concerns? HELL NO, the right to buy or ignore what you want is definitely yours, and I respect it. Hell, I’m gonna be honest, I probably wouldn’t have bought it right away either (my brother is getting me it for my Bday next month) since I have a backlog of shit I really need to get, and there’s still games I have I’m nowhere near completing. You don’t have to rent it either or anything. I’m just saying don’t be AS critical until we get full copies and can mess around with it more. Voice concerns, but do not bury anyone until we have the full and complete story.

To switch gears, and talk about the “horror” of RE. The last time I honestly got a “scare” out of a Resident Evil game ever, was twice. Once, when I was 12 and the game just came out on PlayStation one, the dog jumping through the glass in the hallway early on. Second is the Lost In Nightmares DLC for RE5… when that “executioner” type zombie/creature comes OUT OF NOWHERE… that had me verbally yell out holy shit first time I saw it. Other than that, they are cheesy games, and not scary. However, stuff like the “Jill Sandwich” part, and overall the games atmosphere and mood, that -unsettling- vibe… that’s purely RE… and that stuff was lost… by Resident Evil 3. 2 was the last game that maintained that awesome, creepy atmosphere of the series.

Remake has that though, forgot to mention it. Zero too, though I unfortunately only played briefly, it seems to have it. Code Veronica, I love the game, but it doesn’t have that vibe. I dunno what it is about that game, it just comes off incredibly cheesy and by RE standards that’s really saying something. 4 actually has it’s own vibe. And so does 5. Neither are scary, though the opening section of 4 gets close. 4’s gameplay, exploration, shooting mechanics, enemy boss and stage design are just so damn good, it more than makes up for it. 5, like 4, has a presence to it. Sure, it might not be scary, but stuff like when the flying creatures come out of an el granado (or whatever they are called)'s head, or when you see that dudes eyes bleed out in the beginning, or the first time you see the new chainsaw zombie, or shit that Bat/caterpiller enemy that comes out of the tanker in stage 4 I believe. That stuff is worth pointing out as awesome. 5 is pretty underrated IMO. There’s much more I could get into, I thought oroboros was done well too. Wesker may be all kinds of cheesy/matrixy stuff, but fuck it say what you will Wesker is awesome lol.

It remains to be seen what type of vibe RE6 will have. But the vibe I get from the demo screams generic to me. Maybe it’s just the awful controls and framerate that’s preventing me from feeling the game. Maybe I will give the game a second chance on PC, and maybe they will have patched a better control scheme by that release, but so far there is no way I will purchase this title for my 360, no way.

If I seem to be bitching more than most people in this thread, it’s because oh, Idk, this wasn’t my most anticipated game of the year or anything.

Thank God I get to play Jet Set Radio HD later this week to ease my gamers heart.

And of course I don’t have gold. >:( So not dealing with this shit next gen. lol

did you use all your free one month accounts?

Not sure. I’m probably going to just switch the access on my younger brother’s account…when the website stops acting up. lol

Just did Chris demo and replayed Leon demo to see if I missed something. This game is bad. Really bad. Also, off topic, it doesnt resemble RE at all. I hate having to have a partner too. What a disappointment.
