I really liked Asura’s wrath. A it’s pretty sweet product. It’s just marketed completely wrong.
Anyway when something looks interesting but not worth my $60, I wait till it’s down to whatever price i feel it’s worth. Some get the $60. some don’t. I have no problem just enjoying something. In fact i expect a game to do no more then be enjoyable. When it does more that awesome. When it’s just enjoyable, that’s cool to. At the end of the day it’s a game, and games aren’t meant to distract and kill time. This idea that they need to be these epic masterpieces time after time sets myself up for disappointment. It’s why I don’t go into threads for games that don’t interest me. I show my disinterest by not associating with it, or using my money on it and leave it at that. If other people enjoy it tho, that’s cool.
My fault for miscommunication with what needing epic games versus having proven to make epic games in a improper context. I apologize for that.
This discussion should be dubbed something along the lines of Old and Spoiled:.
Granted, I agree with you about AW, it was not marketed properly but I would not agree that your point of fault is the only fault. IMO, there were a hand-over-fist worth of issues with AW. Just like a lot of Cap’s recent titles, which I wont get into the details.
AW is a great example of an epic idea done poorly. Hell, the last 8 titles Cap has developed are potentially epic games done poorly. RE:ORC should have been a more expanded concept of Outbreak, which wasn’t a bad game, just flawed more than polished. Other than that, you could tell the game was rushed and once only viewed as a “get money quickly” tool than a “let’s make a great game while trying to give our fans what they want at a reasonable, realistic level”.
You could argue that every game since the dawn of Atari, NES, and Sega developed games that were “potentially epic”, but the underlining to that era of gaming would be the fact that technology then was at a certain level and consumer expectations were not even close to what they are nowadays. We now have the right to expect more since we have stronger technology, bigger budgets, and more people with great imaginations to fulfill that “requirement of AAA gaming”.
The requirement of AAA gaming varies from person to person. Using RE6 for example, I see it as an epic game and has something about it that will keep me entertained for hours much like RE5 did.
Well DLC issues aside what was wrong with AW? I want to clarify that I don’t condsider it a game and more an interactive Anime, which a lot to do with my opinion that it was marketed wrong and it not being a bad product at all.
I’d also say it’s a CC2 game not a Capcom game much like Deus Ex Human Revolution is not a SquareEnix game.
ORC is more of a case of giving the project to the wrong people. Depending on who you ask, Slant Six is responsible for killing SOCOM. With the huge ass problems with Confrontation was known to have and still does why did Capcom think it was a good idea to let those guys do it? Capcom seems to outsource their titles to the worst western developers possible.
The obvious reason is, Ada freaking turned his entire squad into monsters. Taking that into account along with what happened to Jill not too damn long ago, and I’d also understand why he might be a little…unhinged.
I think Capcom was trying to look beyond the issues Six Slant did with Socom and decided to roll the dice with them and see if they could make a good game. It obviously backfired on them cause the game was ‘meh’ with some dumb issues that shouldn’t have been in the game in the first place.
I was playing reverse Devil’s Advocate… or something.
but speaking as a 30 year old, I’ve played more epic games than I’ve played bad games. Sadly, the next gen kids have no idea what I’m talking about, thus the “you could argue” statement.
you just said it (I highlighted in bold) and Azure did the money shot. Oh, no Buddha Bellies being punched, aka hand-over-fist worth of “what they got wrong”. granted… I like the idea/concept, but it should’ve been more for a Heavy Rain-esque game which would like more of. gotta have a game even your girlfriend wont complain about watching you play. Ironically, Cathrine caused some flack…
you’re saying way too much which effects nothing. it’s like trying to verify that a person who said a derogatory term by saying “he’s not a every day person, he’s a celebrity/NBA player”. It’s still a game, and it’s still not done properly. (In case you’re wondering, I’m referring to Amare calling a fan an f-word on twitter).
very fucking valid point, bruv.
That just adds to my point of “epic game done poorly”.
I agree. I am firmly of the belief that Capcom should have marketed it as a new type of show and sold it as DL episodes (all of them) instead of as a big package. Run it like an Anime Season. Would have done much much better and been much better received. Capcom did CC2 wrong.
For real. With the right price point they would have looked to make more money for the same amount of content even. Just silly of them. not even thinking.
