Are you shitting me? Hype levels taking a dip
regenerating health…in my resident evil…herbs and spray cans gone?

They might as well have called this shit something like “Gears of Evil” or “Resident Wars”. Sad thing is I’m not even disappointed because I had no hopes of this game actually going back to it’s roots (everything before RE:4) and not suck
Doesn’t seem that bad, to be honest. It basically seems to differentiate between what inflicted damage - bites, swipes, gunshots, etc. If you are getting attacked by large quantities of zombies capable of running and wielding weapons, having to heal in the conventional RE sense would mar the game in a way. I get that people will think “Oh, I can run and get to cover” but it’s not like every enemy will be slowly shuffling towards you one at a time while you try to “heal yourself” especially without a inventory screen that pauses the action.
I think this is a product of the scale they’re trying to go for. Plus you can turn off the damage HUD making it more ambiguous when you’re actually capable of “regenerating.”
There are also still herbs and everything else.
I’m watching the 3 playthroughs of the demo on IGN. What the hell happened to Chris?
im not a purist when it comes about my video games, but imo regenerating health defeats one of the traits of survival horrors, that is the tense moments of being low on health and where you dont have healing items, or are low on them and you dont want to waste them, this also goes from the limited amount of ammo
at least for me the limited resources, including the save items helped to set the mood of a tense atmosphere where you needed to manage wisely your stuff in order to survive
tbh, this is something that i also miss from older fps, i liked the thrill of being absolutely low on health and not having a way to recover it, it was on those tense moments where i payed better, this is why i loved black
This is true, but I feel like if done correctly (say… if the regen was relatively slow) it also adds tension if there are those moments where you can’t heal and you need to run away in order to save that precious bar of health. This, of course, is reliant on a number of factors including how frequently you find healing items and how aggressive the AI is. It’s not always a negative if the rest of the game cooperates.
From the demos it seems like a reasonably modest regen speed, however. Could be slower.
You still need herbs from what I can tell from the Chris gameplay. Health seems to be broken up in bars and once you lose that bar it won’t regenerate up past that point. The only way to get the bar back is with herbs and what not.
It only seems like it regens that one block of health thats still there. Like you don’t fully regen health all the way like other games.
well that its true, if the game is well designed and the mechanics on it are done well that all work in add more to the atmosphere, im ok with it, like you say, if the AI is actually very aggressive, and the regen is slow then there wouldnt be a problem, since you could say that the heath regen is there to balance the new AI
the problem is that this is capcom we are talking about, they have an history of fucking up their games recently
well, if that its the case, if they maintain the healing items low, the tension can still be there
hype increased by 30% :o
That regenerating health I don’t mind honestly. Done the same way in Transformers: War for Cybertron. Considering the amount of enemies you’ll be fighting in the game, you’re gonna wanna keep your bars.
EDIT: OOOOH DID I SEE A RED DOT?
Sigh… why? Just why?
Prolly to attract FPS players
Yeah I know, that’s what I’m saying. Hopefully because of this there won’t be a saturation of healing items like in 4 and 5, but there’s definitely some variation in when you can actually regenerate. Hopefully with bosses it’s less of an option since if you don’t shake off a zombie fast enough you can’t regen.
Exactly. It’s a product of scale… especially for Chris’s segments where he’s getting shot at.
For all of the Scenarios really. Leon is gonna be faced with a shit load a zombies. Chris as you’ve said, Bullets and J’avos. Jake…J’avo’s and the new Nemesis (I would hate to have two bars left when facing that thing my first playthrough). As long as Herbs and Sprays aren’t common it should be alright.
Yeah considering the amount of B.O.W’s you’re going to be dealing with at any given time in this game the way how they have the health seems to be more of a balance thing. They had Chris on a pole slooooowwwlly monkey baring his way over to the other building for like what…30 seconds? There was 2-3 guys over on the other side shooting at him…They had fuckin horrible aim though lol. I’m imagining that this game is going to be a bitch on harder difficulties. Wesker Jr. had to deal with being trapped in a building with some fugly monstrosity chasing him while there were people crawling out of the woodwork shooting at his ass.
I wouldn’t complain about the way they have the regenerating health just yet.
Game still looks fun.
I still laugh at anyone saying the early REs where scary. Tense, sure but scary? Pussy ass fools.
i concur with that
Ok I got through the demo with all characters and even did Melee weapon runs.
Somethings to note, why do I always have to put my healing items into my case. I wonder why it doesn’t just go there automatically. Also just combining red + green herbs just gives you 6 pills to chug in your case, so in a way, it limits you from “overhealing” yourself like the older games.
If you have a melee weapon, if your character has a melee weapon equipped and you are sprinting, doing LT + RT will give you a special attack.Normal melee attacks that you do with just the basic RT waste stamina, usually on the 2nd hit of the combo and when you run out, your character runs hunched over and do weaker melee attacks (Chris does a wimpy kick to the shins which I found funny for some odd reason). They are really great to stun your opponent for a finisher.
Leon has a survival knife and it’s running attack is just a harder swipe. His kicks are still awesome and sweep around the enemy so it usually hits a couple zombies. One awesome thing that happened accidentally is in the elevator part it is overrun, I kept swiping with the knife, then Leon did a Running Bulldog wrestling move on a zombie and exploded it’s head into pieces. BADASS!He also is the only one to duel wield his pistols if you press y while readying his weapon (some guns can use the Y button to switch to burst fire or night vision, so give it a try on some guns). The 2nd pistol didn’t seem that accurate though, and the demo had very limited ammo on Leon’s part so you really couldn’t go HAM to see how effective it really is. Though knowing how badass some handguns were in RE4 and RE5, I could see it being a good option with lots of ammo.
Helena didn’t have a melee weapon but she did have the hydra. It was effective, but she didn’t hold it in an awesome way like Chris and Wesker did in RE5.
Chris has a double knife attack which usually hits them in the head and usually kills (except for mutated j’avos, but you can kill them with a followup falcon punch). I also did a counter or something where the machete J’avo was about to swing but Chris did a special animation and shanked him before he could hit me. Piers doesn’t have a melee weapon but he comes with an anti-material rifle with night vision. COD guys would be pleased.
edit: Also forgot to say, dodge rolling is pretty good in this game against the boss. I just remembered because it seems on other forums some people don’t know you can evade the charge easily haha.
Sherry has a stunrod but I found that it pretty much sucks. It basically does a 2 hit combo but the last hit is really slow. I felt that you can kill someone with the knives before she can finish the 2nd hit and she still needs to do a followup to end the guy she’s hitting.
Best for last, Jake’s Hand to Hand is just amazing. If you do his running attack, he would do a ducking upper, or sweep, etc, and he can chain them from one opponent to another. One problem is that if the enemy is already in motion, it may wiff because he likes to wind up on his ducking upper. He would run out of stamina pretty damn fast though if you keep spamming this, his basic combo in hand to hand (the one where you must ready) is also pretty fast and good. I totally advise you guys to try to beat the boss with his hand to hand. Just incorporate dodge rolls and it’s really fun.
edit: Other forums just reminded me with their whining. You can dodge roll by pressing A + Direction + LT. So just aim and press A to roll basically. It’ll help you if you think you can’t avoid the boss’ claw and charge. ALSO BEFORE YOU START PLAYING GO TO OPTIONS TO ADJUST YOUR GODDAMN SETTINGS, IT’LL HELP. They allow you to adjust a lot of things such as having crosshairs or laser sights and how the camera snaps around when aiming.
Though one problem is that when aiming you character takes up one side of the screen. I got over it though but many people seem less forgiving.
Just got through watching DSP rant about how he needed the Dragon’s Dogma disc in order to play the RE6 Demo. Is this true?
Yea you need the disc to get the DL token to download it. It says on the manual above the code in the fine print, though not many people probably read that .
