I’m of course willing to pay you for your work… As someone who has survived entirely on commissions on doing art for others, I’m fully understanding that you’ll need payment for your services.
Essentially: The problem is this.
I have this sexy tournament edition. It’s pretty cool. I like it a lot. I plan on getting one of those full panel plexis for it when I get paid on Friday. I mean, I like Plexi. I like my TE. I like not having to deal with lamilabel ever again. (raage!)
So, as I sit here trying to conjure up some grand art for my stick, I settle on my main: Ken. I mean, who doesn’t love Ken? He’s all like SHARYUKAN, and they die and stuff. Pretty cool. Only problem is most of the pictures of him out there are pretty bland. They’re either him in a generic action shot, or he’s got these Blonde anime bangs that would make Cloud Strife blush. (I’m looking at you Udon.)
Essentially, I want… a non super bubblegum anime type Ken… in his taunting pose. You know the one. Taunt 1 in SF4. The “I’m ready for ya. Bring it on!” pose that has to load every time you play a match against some flowchart on XBL.
I don’t mind it being generally anime or mangaesque, but I’m trying to avoid Cloud hair or giant eyes or the like… I need something that’ll look good in a red background.
It’s 5AM, and I’m not making complete sense… but could someone hook me up?
Something like this. I dig it. I dunno, it’s obviously anime inspired. It’s got attitude. It’s got Ken. But… the pose leaves a little to be desired. Plus he’s making some kind of awkward face I don’t quite understand… I think he may’ve pulled something. And his hair seems to be turning a little green… I hope he didn’t like, get caught in some acid rain or something.
Well, I’m still awake so I suppose I can hammer something out. Can you be a little more specific about the taunt pose? I understand its from the match startup, but… Fullbody? closeup?
Here’s a quickie as a demonstration. I can’t really afford to work any harder on it unless it’s an official commission. Get back to me at your convenience regarding that.
Depends on how much work I have to do on it. If you want color I’ll do it for $30. if you want it just two toned it’d be $20. If you want it vectored just tack $5 on.
I’ll definitely do $25 for it vectored/two toned. I’ve seen your work before and it’s pretty amazing (the Felicia sprite took more attention to detail than I have in my body.)
I get paid Friday, so you’re not rushed by any means.
Alright, since you’re serious I’ve gone ahead and begun the process… as you can see I improved the original sketch a bit. only the top part of his body is done for now… I still need to decide how his stance will be. If you’re paying for it it’s your drawing; any suggestions, fixes, gripes whatever the issue is please let me know. This is all still production, the final will be a nice, clean vector image so keep that in mind.
It looks good so far, his far hand seems a little weird but maybe I’m just seeing things I dunno.
Love the pose, so far it’s basically exactly what I’m looking for. Other than I have no real gripes. As far as stance goes, I’m guessing it wouldn’t be that hard to look at him from various SF games (alpha, 3s, sf4 all have the same taunt) and figure out a good way to do his stance.
not sure if you guys are expecting any outside input in this thread but i thought it would look really cool if you switch it to his middle finger in that last sketch.
As fun as it would be for bird flipping… I’d like to keep it somewhat mature. You know… credibility and all that. Though I always welcome outside opinions; anything I can do to become better.
