Yeah, HDR Hawk seems top tier now. Easier grab motion, and insane damage. Cross up splash, stand mk, then grab = 70%, without meter, on Chun, it’s crazy :wasted:
Hawk on AE is harsh with all the Akuma players everywhere, but it’s satisfying when you slip through the plasma spam to spin 'em into oblivion… and then get messaged “360 mashing scrub sduhfshdkfkh!!1”. These kids think they have a win button with one-dimensional shoto play, but Hawk only needs to hit like 40% of their lifebar then ultra… :wow: :looney:
Hawk is trash in HDR.
Relying on U1 is not a good way to play Hawk.

You sound like the average online fanatic. I’m talking about Hawk on tournament level, because it is the only thing that counts if you make bold statements like that.
Hawk has almost never been seen in the tops while people still cared for HDR, nowadays HDR is a dead game because it was crap from the start and you can only see Hawk in tops if you follow ST. The fact is, Hawk is way better in ST than in HDR where he was nerfed to the ground and they decided to remove his loop that made him competitive.
XBL AE ranked is trash, why do you still not get it? This forum here is for TOURNAMENT PLAYERS and INTERESTED PLAYERS in HIGH-LEVEL-PLAY. SRK is mainly about the tournament scene. Online play is for training purposes and even then it is BAD. Not only because it lags (what you don’t notice as a beginner) but because 90% of the players who only play online (especially ranked) are HORRIBLE.
If you don’t want to believe me, ask any of the other Hawks in here like Lvangundy, Razorback, BlueBlazer, Joe etc…they will for sure tell you that relying and building up your game solely on U1 is a BAD idea.

SRK may have been for tournaments and arcades ten years ago dude with all that zany Apex shit, but guess, what SFIV kinda changed all that… literally thousands of people read these forums now to get help with playing these new games online. As a Chun Li player, Hawk is horrific to deal with in HDR, but I’ve seen Hawks on there wipe out all sorts of chars and playstyles, whatever, that’s another sub-forum.
Regarding the joke that is AE, U1 is a ridiculous comeback mechanic in a game chock-a-block full of bs. I don’t really give a shit about tournaments or hi-lvl play anymore, but for sure, those players aren’t gonna let you get in and land that badboy, I can see that, but online, right now, it’s waaaaaay more effective than U2 (which I doubt you would ever land at something like Evo where hardly anyone jumps).
The goal of every new player should be to get out and play in arcades and tournaments. If it isn’t you can just put your stick down right now, and this is why:

Those early days shaped our gaming into a community, not an aggregate of braindead fratboys raving about kill streaks and MOABs. The community is what makes Fighting Games stand out from the pile of turd games that the youth ravenously fill their ignorant gullets with. Fighting games were meant to be played heads up, side by side, sweating and smack talking.
We have an obligation to keep that tradition alive.
I land it 90% of the time after practicing and I NEVER use U1 except versus characters that zone me a lot and play defensive like Guile, Dee Jay, Sagat and Rose. It made me a better T. Hawk player, because I focused on the core aspects of the game even more since I don’t have that “I can screw up 10 times and still win because I have a 70% kill combo” mindset anymore.

The magic of U2 is not that you actually have another reliable anti air, a tool to catch backdashes, a tool to keep your enemies in the corner or a counter to Blanka balls or…well, if you still don’t understand you weren’t worth it from the very beginning of this debate, it’s the fact that people you play respect it and JUMP LESS just because you COULD catch them.
That is what every grappler in this game wants, only then you are able to setup your SPD game.
I’ve also never said U1 won’t work. I said it is less powerful in pro play, because it’s just another SPD and people can see through it easily. U2 keeps your enemies grounded which is way more important for Hawks game than SPD number 5 in his arsenal.
