Alright. Got mine setup! However, the one question I have is is it possible to set it to where when I hit specific buttons they alone light up a specific color? What I mean is, my buttons are all set to turn purple when I press them. But is there a way to have it set so that when I hit the buttons for XFactor those buttons light up red? Thanks!
Iām just going to wire a Ps3 controller with this. Iāll solder it.
This thing is so awesome. I am having one problem however that I cannot find the answer to. I have programmed my Remora so that all buttons are set for favorite color of Red only. As red as it gets, with ZERO blue or green. When I check the favorite colors by entering setup mode and then holding select, they are all perfectly balanced to red only. However, when I try and set a screen saver (for example āfav_fadeā) some of my buttons are pure red and some are clearly showing up with blue in the mix. Can anyone give me any advice? Thanks.
I believe you have to enter and exit the setup menu before the Remora will save the quick select fav color screen saver. Thatās what I did.
Based on what you described, it sounds like the the colors were set with a little blue in them. Because of the conversion from RGB to HSV values so I can have it fade in and out, that little bit of blue became way too noticeable. The RGB adjustment button will kick up by 1 every 1/75th of a second the button is held, so what Iād suggest you do is go into the favorite setting for that button, lightly press Red Up until all of the red disappears (it loops, so pressing Up will go from 255 to 0, and same with pressing down alowing it to go from 0-255), then use a few very quick presses until red comes back nice and bright. As soon as it does, youāre at max, dont press it anymore. Go to the blue, press Blue Down with very quick presses until it goes from No Blue to full Blue. A couple of very quick presses to Blue Up will cause it to roll back over to 0. Save, and repeat for any other buttons.
That is correct. Quick selects dont change saved settings, but are the modes that are saved if you enter and exit the setup menu. The welcome sheet should have covered that, otherwise Iāll get it thrown in.
Toodles, is it possible to make it so that when certain buttons are pressed together they light a specific way? What I mean is, I have all my buttons set to light up purple when they are pressed. But Iām interested in possibly setting it so that only when the 4 buttons for X-Factor are pressed together those buttons will light up red at that time? Thanks! I love the products! Everything came safely in the mail.
Well, itās not possible with the current firmware, I can tell you that. But itās something that could be added to future versions, but Im really afraid that trying to set that up would be complicated for the user to control, and the setup menu already may take a leap of faith for those that havenāt been using the FGW LED controller for two years already. But Iām always open to ideas for ways to expand the code; god knows Iāve got the room. Iāll add it to the requested features list Im making and look into it when I can work on the Remora code again.
Oh, before I forget again; advanced info:
E1 is high when not in tournament mode, low in tournament mode. Doesnāt matter if its the Lock switch or the button combo that causes it. It canāt power too much by itself, like 15-25mA or there abouts, but if you need more than that, you can use it to control a FET or other transistor type thingy. Setup a small LED to show itās in tournament mode, or use it to disable other bright LEDs in the case.
E2 is a slow breathing pattern, that does respect tournament mode. Use it for ambient LEDs like that ādarknessā B15 stick, or to control a single LED in a balltop, or an array of LEDs inside the stick, whatever you want.
As always, not hard for those with the skill to put to good use, but hella unsupported. If you canāt make it work, I canāt help you.
For what itās worth, thatās a feature Iād be interested in too, since itās something the Sparky does very nicely. Admittedly, itās tough to do with a PCB that doesnāt give the user the option of plugging it in to a PC and using a GUI for LED setup, but that would be a huge amount of extra work for you as opposed to just doing it all on-board.
I did want to ask, do you think youāll be adding the āfavorite schemesā feature I suggested previously any time in the near future? My thought is that the interface could be tweaked to work like this:
Current interface:
- Hold Start (gameplay): Setup
- Hold Start -> Hold Select + 1-8: Button Color Setup
- Hold Start + Select (startup): System Reset
- Hold Select (startup): Troubleshooting
- Hold Start+Select (gameplay): Quick Mode Select
This leaves lots of possibilities for some of the extra modes that I and others are requesting, e.g.:
- Hold Select (gameplay) + 1-8: Quick Color Scheme Select. i.e., hold select + any button 1-8, then release to choose from 8 saved schemes.
- Hold Start (gameplay) -> Hold Start + Select + 1-8: Color Scheme Setup. i.e., enter Setup, then rather than holding Select + # to config individual buttons, youād hold Start + Select + # and the board would guide you through selection of all 8 (or 6) colors successively to configure a scheme for the button (1-8) that you pressed. Could have it auto-save after selecting all 8 colors, or press Start + Select to save when youāre done (for 6-button configs). Actually, even better, this could be a good place to accommodate the button combination feature: while youāre within the setup for a specific scheme, holding Start and hitting any button combo could allow you to set a color for that button combo.
An example could look like this:
I want to make a setup thatās specific to MvC3. I power my console, then hold Start to enter Setup. After the RGBW pattern indicates Iām in the Setup menu, I hold Start + Select + 1 to set up a shortcut scheme for button 1 (button 1 could flash or something to indicate this). While in this mode, holding Start and pressing any button or button combination would start the standard RGB config for that button/combo. So you can hit Start + 1, set it how you like it, save with 5, then Start + 2, etc. To get a special āX-Factorā button combo, you hold Start + 1 + 2 + 3 + 5 (or whatever your LMHS is), then release and set it to red (or whatever). When youāve configured everything you want (default for unconfigured buttons could just be 000000), you press Start + Select to save the scheme. From then on, whenever I want my MvC3 scheme, I would hold Select and press 1 at any time after booting up.
Does this make sense/seem feasible to do?
The idea was built into the original Sparky

but soon abandoned for the configurator.
There are just too many customization options and opportunities that would cause any developer heartburn and brainmush.
@Toodles and @PurpleArms have done an ace job for LED light up solutions. Kudos. Canāt wait to see what comes next
Its difficult to support because everyone wants something different, yet easy to handle.
Perhaps a video demonstrating how to change modes / options on Remora is in order?
The video demonstrates what I mean with the presets, except that in the case of the Remora, heās not burdened with figuring out a bunch of schemes to include with it; the whole point is that the user does that for themselves. And given that thereās already code on-board for a basic setup menu system, a way to control RGB settings of individual buttons, and a way to save all those settings, it doesnāt seem like too much of a leap to make it work.
Yes and noā¦ the problem is expanding a programmable interface for users without a GUI is not particularly elegant, and it will confuse peopleā¦
And making a nice programable GUI necessitates the Introduction of a USB connection and software configuratorā¦ So youāre talking about board re-design and increased cost, increased complexityā¦ This opens the door to a flood of issues ranging from drivers, to shorting out boards, how to connect to the PC (what to do with existing USB cord), how to connect to various joystick types etc etcā¦
Remora was intended to be easy and uncomplicated for the massesā¦
WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED, going through color swapping changing modes and such as tournament lock switch, and the how the quick modes dont save etc
Understood, which is what I meant by:
What I described isnāt really more ācomplicatedā than the configuration options that are already present, and they generally fit within the same design scheme. The real question is whether or not itās beyond the scope of programming that Toodles is interested in doing; if itās going to be a huge investment in man hours, then itās understandable (albeit disappointing) that he wouldnāt want to do it, but I wouldnāt conflate that with it being ātoo confusingā for end users. I am an end user, after all.
It is needed, no argument there. Next order of business though is the installation guide.
You are absolutely correct. Itād be a short leap from āSelect+button->go into config for buttonā to āButton Combination+SelectReleased->Go into mass button color changeā It also shouldnāt be difficult to implement; the only possible technical hurtle I can imagine is the space; thatād be roughly 55*3 bytes of storage, and I havent checked to see what I have enough left available. So, please consider it on the todo list, with no ETA. I havenāt been able to keep a promise on those yet.
The problem is that it goes beyond just a programming matter. Yes, he can add this feature, but what if there are more features people want that are simple to add? Now weāre talking about multiple versions of Remora out there. Plus revisions to guides, videos, confused users (aside from you). Which is why Iām willing to bet a pretty penny that Toodles will keep the number of revisions few and far in between. He will not release the hex code for people to flash on their own either

But as always, I am very open to suggestions for features and display modes and whatever else to make it a better product. Hell, most of the stuff implemented after Evo was a direct result of input at Evo. The programmable key combo was on the list already, but my head just wasnt clear enough to envision it fully and plan out how it should; now I know itād be a cinch. The ārecord keys and playback as a screen using one of the display modes and the recorded keysā is on the list as well. So, please, bring it on and Iāll do my best to add it in, or be very clear about why I canāt. Donāt be afraid to list your suggestions; theyāll get added to the list and implemented when the time is right, probably based on the board hardware revisions. I dont want to discourage any suggestions; I welcome them heartily, I just canāt promise WHEN theyāll be done.
Been playing around with the remora. I lost my Fav_Fade display after holding the three kicks to test out tournament mode. Now I hold Start+Select to do the quick buttons then hold the 1+2+3 but I see a ripple display pop up and thatās not what I want. Then I perform a 2nd attempt and I get a rainbow display. Any idea on what the issue or what Iām doing wrong?
