You probably already know what I’m going to say against Deejay upkicks - reaction buttslams! Deejay can’t upkick your buttslam right after he throws a maxout. When you’re in roundhouse buttslam range, get your reaction on!
Getting to that range from fullscreen is another matter, which I do mainly by mixing reaction short buttslams over maxouts and neutral jump fierces -> HHS (the HHS is mainly to get you in buttslam range and give you time to charge it - though sometimes your HHS will hit anyway, which is always cool).
I’m pretty sure that Deejay can actually do that - at least against RH buttslams - because of the extra time provided by human reactions. According to NKI/T Akiba, the upkicks take 55-56 frames to charge. The RH Buttslam starts hitting on frame 42, and won’t hit a crouching Deejay until at least frame 50. Even if we stipulate a superb 10 frame reaction time for Honda, the Deejay player still has enough time to hit the upkicks (though he’s got to have some nerves to do that under pressure). The timing is a little tighter with short and forward buttslams or diagonal jumping moves.
I’d actually like to test that. I know that if my reaction buttslam is too slow, Guile can flash kick me out of it, but I haven’t been flashkicked / upkicked out of really tightly reacted roundhouse buttslams yet. It’s pretty scary to think that technically, no matter how quick my reaction is, there’s still a possibility for Guile / Deejay to flashkick my reaction buttslam…
I don’t get flashkicked by guile after buttslam in response to sonic boom, but I think good ones can use crouching fierce right after sonic boom.
I think DJ can actually get upkicks in before buttslam will hit, so I rarely use sumo drop against him.
Maybe he can use down back to down forward to keep a charge after fireballing, but guile can’t?
What I’m really interested in is how difficult it is to button release oicho on wakeup vs crossup blanka electricity.
I could go ahead and write a recapitulative “Honda guide” of sorts, but it’d be pretty weighed towards my own distinctive playstyle. Maybe I can write something, then you guys chip in?
It’d be in a separate thread though as the first post isn’t mine.
Kinda like onehit’s redo on the boxer thread? Maybe we should do that with all the threads, a chance to start over with the first posts and really get the info in order.
It would be very useful to have all the best posts out of the character threads collated into a kind of semi-definitive guide, without all the filler in between. At this point the game’s been out 14 months, here’s very little out there now that hasn’t been figured out and posted on by someone.Would the new" contribution system" be of any use? Is is possible to go through the threads and nominate the really useful posts with lots of good strategy in them for articles that could be combined into a kind of advanced character guide…or something…??
I like the idea of re-editing the first post on the character threads to include new tricks and tips specific to HDR, brcause they’re getting VERY big and difficult to find anything in, and it just leads to people posting the same questions over and over and never searching for anything.
