"Remember what we used to say? JACKPOT!" The Vergil Team Building Thread

Currently runnin Cap(ss)/vergil(RS)/Doom(missile). I feel it is a very strong scenario, but with cap on point I struggle in a few neutral game match ups. As well I’m not fond of Doom anchor, but Cap/vergil and vergil/cap is soooo good. Any suggestions on what to swap Doom with? Problem characters for Cap:

Zero (this douche waffle D:), Dorm, Trish, Task, Morrigan

Typically characters that can dominate and maneuver above me and have zoning tactics that SS and CS can’t keep up with either due to range or angles.

Fought some guy using Cap/Vergil/Strider, I remember it being very frustrating

Strange goes very well with Cap, but not really a good anchor. What about drones? Works very well with both. And lastly, Iron Man. Unibeam is probably(?) Caps best assist. It’s very solid with vergil as well, but comes with Iron Man.

Actually I have stopped doing swords on block. I think it’s better to do devil trigger. Sword always wound up getting advance guarded and any character with a nasty beam hyper would wreck you for any follow up such as s.:h:+missile assist, f+:h:~RT. There’s always just going to be a gap  Devil trigger, you get frame advantage from the block and are free to move with priority without being immediately advance guarded. you can then do what ever you want such as teleport + assist, raw rapidslash, start a block string and see how it goes. The swords just weren’t getting any results of blocked DHC.

cool i’lll try it out. So what you are saying is i can go Rapid Slash, DT, then cr L or assist + teleport and be safe?

Hey guys, I’m thinking about finally selling my soul to the Devil (Trigger) and picking up Vergil. I’d roll with Joe/Vergil/Ammy to give Joe 1 touch kills. I’m wondering though, does anybody around here use the Vergil/Ammy shell and can spare some quick thoughts?

Pretty much. Plus you are gonna hit the fight was DT vergil for awhile, so blocked or not you maintain an edge for a bit. Blowing swords for no reasons is a waste of meter. Plus if you screw up the confirm both swords/DT can confirm off the hit.

The Vergil/Ammy shell is actually pretty good. Ammy gives Vergil a half-screen projectile assist, and can easily set up his RTG block strings and mixups. The only bad thing about it is that Ammy stays on the field way too long, at least for my liking. If Ammy’s attack misses, there is a good chance she will get punished, so you have to be a bit more pressuring with the shell as opposed to other Vergil/Projectile Shells, like Vergil/Mag or Vergil/Hawkeye imo.

For me its just a matter of who I’m playing. If I go for SS or DT. Like against taller characters, you can instant overhead them with swords and it is very easy to keep the pressure on them, plus SS runs out quicker so i can build up meter sooner than I could in DT (probably my biggest reason). Against characters like Akuma, and Ryu however, DT is a great based on what you said. Idk i just think its all about match ups.

Picking up Taskmaster Vergil Magneto…I have been playing Task since Vanilla but after a long ass time of being forced to play him without good assists for support, I’m making a point team for him. Anyway, we already know combo + dhc to swords = death…what suggestions/tips/“things to keep in mind” do you guys have for Vergil Magneto?

Nova/Vergil/Hawkeye?

My nova bnb does decent damage, ends in corner, and I’m pretty sure otg to beam hyper can go straight into Vergil’s loops. I haven’t seen this duo before but, if I can get into sword loops this way it is a guaranteed TOD on anyone in this game.

Then when I get good with Vergils bnb:

-Arrow assist plus light teleport going to a low

-Arrow assist teleport behind

And that’s all I can think of because I’m a fraud.

Just how well do Nova and Vergil work together? I like the idea of Nova on point, but I’m not sure who the third character in that team would be or what the order should be.

sorry wrong thread.

I’m currently running Nova/Vergil/Strider and it’s quite good. The only issue is a lack of a proper horizontal assist for Nova, so I’ve had to alter my style from rushdown to a little more patient, punishing mistakes. Hawkeye or Taskmaster would make a good substitute for Strider, but I love the Vergil/Vajra shell, despite how ass my Strider is.

Anyway…It gets 1mil+ from even grabs, starting with 1 bar. Safe DHCs, unblockables with Nova assist, conversions off Helm Breaker, a groundbounce reset for Vergil combos, strong mixups and RTG lockdown with Vajra, two fantastic anchors, etc.

Just a thing to note, if you plan on using this pair; if you use Rapid Slash during a Nova combo, remember that you can’t call the same assist slot twice, so you can’t reset the ground bounce (if you used one; my corner Strider extension does not, so I use Nova’s assist to stick an extra Lunar Phase in after the sword loop) when you DHC. Avoid using Rapid Slash in combos, for this reason.

So after Evo I’m dropping doom from Cap/vergil/doom. Worked pretty well but has some matchups that aren’t good and if you snap cap out to anchor and put doom in say versus hawkeye or dorm…you are fuuuuuuucked. Seems the best option is to do Cap/Vergil/Strider, but would anyone know if there’s another option over strider? What are great anchor assists for vergil? Also what characters can really abuse vergil as a assist in neutral game?

I’d say Hawkeye or Magneto are your best bets if you don’t want to use Strider.

I play Vergil/Doom/Strider with doom rocks assist. What do you guys think about doom rocks for vergil? It’s good to glitch with and it’s good for mixups as well, you can pick up from high time too. It helps vs morri/doom because he shields you long enough to activate swords. Personally I like it more than plasma beam.

I’m going to give this a try with the rocks as this is my secondary team.

What kind of extensions do you get with rocks combo wise?

I haven’t looked at extensions too much because most of the time the combo drops when you call rocks too late…but you can be chargin RT and combo without having to charge switch and still end up doing loops. You gotta call rocks when you launch them, air H, helm breaker, lunar phase when you hit the floor and you’ll get the ground bounce

I’m never playing him because he’s downright stupid, but I’ve got to ask you Vergil players. Why haven’t any of the top players figured out that point Vergil with the right assists is the dumbest thing in this game? Vergil’s only real weakness is that he needs meter to maximize himself and he somewhat weak on incoming (people seriously overrate how “easy” it is to kill in on incoming). The online world has definitely figured this out and there are point Vergil teams running rampant. What’s with the tourney scene?

I run point vergil. I play Vergil dante Strider so it’s either dante or vergil on point for me because Strider is ass anywhere but anchor. The reason I choose to put vergil on point is because I believe vergil benefits from dante’s assist way more than dante benefits from vergils.
