"Remember what we used to say? JACKPOT!" The Vergil Team Building Thread

I think Captain/X/Vergil is the best setup.

You want Captain first because he doesn’t have good DHC options. Also he has over 1 mil hp so it is likely he can take a hit and DHC out if your opponent is not doing optimized combos.

You want Vergil Anchor because he is going to be the best anchor character for team.

For X, I think it should be someone who has synergy with both of them and likely survive incoming mix-ups so he can safely DHC Vergil in since Vergil’s incoming options are bad.

Captain/Iron Man/Vergil is my vote.

Captain with unibeam and Vergil with unibeam are both pretty derp. Also Iron Man has more tools to survive incoming mix ups than Taskmaster does.

On this team most likely the person will snap in Vergil if they cannot ToD Captain. If they do kill Captain, then most likely they will snap out Iron Man instead of killing him since they don’t want to face XF3 Vergil. But then you have XF2 Vergil with unibeam which is probably better anyways. If you use XF2, then you will probably have half life Iron Man if Vergil dies and that is nothing bad either.

If you are not digging Iron Man then the next best option would be Doom.

If you don’t like Doom either, then I would go with Taskmaster.

Yeah after testing i decided to run:

Cap(SS)/Doom(missile)/Vergil(rapid)

if I get a bad cap MU I’ll lead with doom by holding :a1: on load and play a lame out game and build meter. 1st loss my B team will be Task(h arrow)/Doom(missile)/Vergil(rapid). Task tends to be a great go to for bad Cap MU’s and really if im not running Cap point on a team at the select screen, I shouldn’t be running Cap.

Considering trying to learn Vergil on a Taskmaster/Vergil/Akuma team. Essentially I need a strong second character that can extend Taskmaster combos and kill off a DHC. I mainly fish for openings with shield skills + tatsu assist into a combo, extend with a second character (is currently bouncing between Doom and Spencer), and DHC to try and kill. In the corner I’ve been able to extend with Rapid Slash assist with fully charged downward arrow, then one quick up arrow when I land which bounces them back down from getting carried up with Vergil assist, and then I can hyper > DHC. I need to figure out how to do a swords loop, but it seems like Vergil can basically kill off any confirm from shield skills pressure.

The question then is how is Vergil with Akuma assist? Or would Task/Akuma/Vergil be better? I don’t think it would, but just curious. Does anybody play Vergil with tatsu pressure, and what are some bnbs/pressure strings I can try to learn?

Has anyone tried pairing Vergil with Sentinel? I’ve been playing Mag/Vergil/Sent as my secondary team and it seems really strong. The lockdown you get from drones is so good for Vergil, and you get to do things like this:

A quick question anyone know the combo that nerdjosh does with vergi/doom? I’ve been looking for awhile what inputs are lol

More Vergil/Dante/Strider Stuff, focused more on birthday confirms using crystal assist to save XF, its a good team…

You…you need to post more from this team please. I just picked up strider a month ago so I have this exact team and would like to see more from it.

Yeah man i post what i find where i deem it presentable, just i dont always have stuff worth sharing, just small bits of tech here and there that are meh at best, though i might be more confident to put it out there if others are also willing to share/discuss etc… I truely believe that the team is 100% the best point Vergil variant if you want to compete in tournaments and such, so the more people pick it up and start discussing/sharing strats the better because id love to also see more stuff from this team from other people too

Do you play it? If so for how long have you been playing it? Like I said it’s only been a month and I love this team. I agree vergil benefits a lot from this team.

Like you just a month, i was running ver/wesk/stri for awhile since i slowly moved to it rather than learning 2 chars at once but now i have Dante in there. To be fair X/Dante/Strider is solid just because of Dante’s assist selection and how well he works with Strider, in much the same way you get Doom/Ammy as a common support shell Dante/Strider is probably just as common. But yeah, Vergil works great with it.

Back from Magfest and some much needed real world application of tech.

I actually started experimenting with this team a month ago as well, eerie. I’m a bit of a lab rat with my lack of irl opponents but this team seems extremely powerful if played smart. Gaining 2 meters and dealing 600k off of a rapid slash confirm is stupid. Smart use of judgement cuts + vajra + round trip gives some oppressive space control and you can convert off everything when you want to kill. Definitely will be exploring this team more. I just wish I had a capture card :frowning:

Since I know a lot of you Vergil players also play his brother I wanted to hear some of your opinions on Hawkeye/Vergil vs. Hawkeye/Dante, as I was considering changing my lineup to either pair with Taskmaster on point(Hawkeye as anchor). I’m currently learning Vergil but was considering Dante because both Task and Hawk benefit from jam session but Vergil is much more damaging and derpy which is what my team needs. Any input would be appreciated.

Optimized the ground throw combos for the Vajira conversion so they dont use those gimmicky TAC’s in the original video i made, apologies if anyone picked up any bad habits off that one, ive removed it and uploaded this instead:

Also. What’s the timing to get strider to hit and be able to hit him on the way down like at the beginning of the video?

I put a little explanation in the video description

does vergil/doom missiles have any actual mixups or do you just try to put them in as big a blockstring as you possibly can?

Uhm, I dont see why it doesnt? Its not like Vergil+horizontal assist only has 1 mixup with teleport+assist. Vergil still has his tick throw, frame trap, and his left/right game with Missiles/Round Trip. You still have all the options Vergil normally has to open people up, you just have Missiles to cover you and expand your neutral game

Running the duo of Zero/Vergil. having difficulties locking down an 3rd assist character…Strider,Ammy,Task,Mags are all options. I like strider but i also like burning xfactor early to get rid of characters. I know flocker uses hawkeye arrows are task arrows just as derpy? They are a bit slower but i feel like task benefits from vergil(i like to DT him then put him on anchor) than hawkeye would. Thoughts?

Key difs between Task(h arrow) and Hawkeye (quickshot):

Hawkeye fires quicker, travels quicker (so less active frames and area covered by hitboxes)
Task has much long hitstun
Hawkeye stands in front of point character, Task stands behind

Task gets great pressure strings with vergil rapidslash. As an anchor Hawkeye is better with x-factor, but Task is more well rounded and more likely to handle 3 characters without match up worries.

I am currently running Vergil/Walmart/Hiding Missiles, and I am primarily calling Missiles for wonky resets, combo extensions, and for levelling Frank if Vergil dies. My bnbs revolve around RT glitch, and calling Walmart for lockdown/mixups.
