"Remember what we used to say? JACKPOT!" The Vergil Team Building Thread

Vergil only needs one neutral assist to either lockdown or teleport mixup an opponent so Jam Session definitely fulfills that criteria, without that he still finds it pretty easy to open people up with rapid slash/stinger mixups off St.H, Round trip shenanigans and ofc his Godlike normals so I wouldn’t worry about that. Coincidence cause I had a talk about this recently with a friend of mine and we kind of came to the conclusion that unless you have another assist to OTG and convert/extend your combos you’re better off not using Jam Session in the neutral due to how easy it is to convert combos with it off Helm Breaker, Ground Throw and other regular combo starters. i.e. just playing him without a neutral assist in order to get his larger combos once you open someone up, but ofc you still always have the option of using it in neutral anyway so yeah, up to you.

If its Vergil point you can play him Jam session to extend combos + other neutral game assist (with potential combo extending properties as a bonus) or if he’s on second for the ToD sword loop DHC for your point character id just run Dante/Jam anchor and rinse that since hes probably the best shell for Vergil when just left with one other character.

Hey what’s the best combo after a DHC into swords from dante? Normally I just do lunar phasex2 but I’ve been told that’s the worst I can do.

nice info i feel confident now will run viper otg and jam session, team will be awesome once im on point

Soooo I’ve some how improved my previous team of Vergil/Magneto/Ammy to Vergil/Doom/Ammy, and NOW to Vergil/Doom/Strider for the not only super strong chip setups /lock-down, but Strider Assist neutral coverage as well(which is even better for me in the neutral than Ammy was). The fact that I’ve improved my previous BnB to compensate for the scaling of Doom’s Beam assist just makes it even more retarded good. To be honest if I can just get used to the high time + Strider pick-up I think I’ve found probably his best team for my taste(in terms of chip/lock-down/general control of the match with Vergil).

And I thought I only liked Strider with Dante, or Viper until now.

Let’s say I have someone in a swords loop type combo. But I don’t have the meter to kill via looping. Any good resets from that position to attempt to continue the damage? For reference my primary assist is task arrows (felicia sand splash otg).

I guess ill throw out my other question too while I’m posting… when I do a vergil basic bnb to helm breaker and call my otg (sand splash), am I better off going into the lunar phase variation? Or the cH xx stinger xx teleport variation?

During a loop, I imagine, lunar, round trip, c.H, L cut then 1) s.L, dash air throw or 2) S, H+taskmaster, they most likely tech roll backwards (due to blocking), rapid slash/M tele, once they’ve seen it enough L tele

Not sure what the lunar phase variation is but ideally the more round trip loops you can put in, the more damage and meter you build. So after OTG, do a round trip, cH, L cut, cH, stinger, M tele, cH, S, H, round trip, cH, L cut, cH, swords.

Has anyone tried out Vergil/Dorm/Magneto? I might be running it as a side team. Rapid Slash seems like a pretty good assist for Dorm’s zoning game.

Used to run Dorm with anchor Vergil. Letting you know right now, rapid slash is amazing for Dorm’s zoning. My least favorite situation with dorm is when, to keep an approaching person still, I throw out a stalking flare, and they man up and take all the hits right next to me, and can act soon after. As they land Vergil gets to push them fullscreen almost infallibly, and allows you to keep them away pretty indefinitely if you have the right reads and they don’t. Another huge perk, safe strings 100% translate to fullscreen zoning if you want them to.

Vergil with Dormy assists…that I can’t help ya with. I ran that Derpy X-factor Vergil stuff, and that means I commonly didn’t use assists.

Yeah, I’m trying to use Dark Hole for combos. Pretty tricky, but it seems like Vergil doesn’t need it (since he has Disruptor) and I plan to center the team around Dormammu first, then Vergil second. Did some testing for Chaotic Flame xx Spiral Swords DHC in the corner. It’s kind of iffy because of the height Chaotic Flame leaves the opponent in.

DHCing after the pop up, then waiting for the fall and jumping with dH right before they’d normally flip works a lot for me, but you’re right, it is iffy.

I’m going to work on that. I still like what Rapid Slash (especially if it’s DT Rapid Slash) does for Dorm’s zoning.

By the way, am I reading this correctly, but the Bible says the Rapid Slash assist has about 104 low durability points (first 3 projectiles have 99 points and last one has 5). There’s no way it can plow through almost anything except for Piercing Bolt/Magnum/Tatsu/EX Thunder Knuckle/etc., right?

Iunno, I really don’t think so. I don’t have access to the bible, I want it, though. I doubt it has that kinda durability, and omg, if it does, that’s just one more reason I’m really really dumb for dropping Vergil for a while after learning simple swordloops.

They appear behind Vergil. If Vergil gets hit, then those projectiles disappear. If it somehow goes over his head and falls into the slashes, then yeah, it’ll absorb it.

Got it. I’ll probably use it as a mid-range “get off me” assist.

I’m learning to use Vergil now because I wanted a point character that was easy to use, has multiple options (especially against zoners), and highly damaging. Tried using Dante (like the character, but couldn’t Bold Cancel consistently) and Wesker (like him, but got too bored of his playstyle), so why not go for the guy who’s a hybrid of the two? I’m also a huge fan of his theme song since I remember going through that crazy Mission 14 battle in DMC3 and hearing it.

The regular Rapid Slash has about 20 points of low durability (4 projectiles x 5 points). I don’t think the the durability matters too much for Rapid Slash assist, since it does come slow unless it happens to be in DT.

Just thinkin out loud but… suppose you have a point vergil, backed by a dark harmonizer and missiles. You call morri, rapid slash behind, xx swords. Between round trips and other attack strings, access to the meter assist, and to the further pinning multi hitting missiles assist, might vergil be able to do something frightfully close to having swords almost endlessly either out or available?

Certainly wouldn’t be truly endless, but in theory, seems like this could be an insanely pressuringversion of vergil. And that’s to say nothing of having morridoom right behind it. Definitely food for thought!

ChrisG could be working towards that with his Vergil play.

He running vergil first? Footage exist??

He showed off Morrigan/Vergil/Doom very recently. Although he doesn’t put Vergil first, he shows how dangerous Vergil can be with Missiles, Spiral Swords, and Dark Harmonizer.

You found Plasma Beam to be better than Hidden Missiles for Vergil?

Primarily, yes, but teams can vary which allow some assist to function better(which in my case is Plasma beam).

See, Missiles is no doubt really good, and allows for A LOT of coverage once they’re out. The only problem with them is that it does require you to protect doom for some time(which is not as simple with Vergil or easy for that matter). While missiles still work for a Vergil Chip/lockdown your still left vulnerable between specific things. What I mean by those specific things is mostly in regards to round trip(during and prior to release). If your going for full-on optimized chip damage with Vergil you’ll need the use of round trip(and the RT glitch) as well as strong chip assist making it crucial that you cover those periods when Vergil is vulnerable. And while Missiles can help cover the gap after the release of round trip it won’t cover the animation before the release, putting you at risk of a Happy Birthday or even X-factor cancel(or various other things). This is why I chose plasma beam because it’ll result in similar chip damage, but also gives me the coverage for the pre-release of RT(and even some afterwards). The other plus side to plasma beam is that you retain a beam mix-up, and Doom is not as vulnerable(especially once RT is out). The only problem I ever had with plasma beam was the scaling until I changed up my BnB to account for the scaling and regain my ToD’s.

With that said, the chip damage gets better since RT alone will chip for as much as Spiral Swords and build good meter in the process(combining all of that with the RT glitch, Spiral swords, and assist with strong lockdown/chip make for MvC2 Spiral and Strider style chip/lockdown). I will give missiles credit for also covering the air once they’re out, but I have Strider for that which also grants me:

  • Vajra mix-up’s for Vergil
  • X factor lvl 3 Strider
    Or
-Strider + Beam assist(which is strong with Stand Heavy + Satellite pressure)

No doubt missiles is good if your going for a chip setup, but your team has to be setup for it as well(which usually means that someone else will be on point using missiles much more then Vergil himself). So in the end it depends on your team, and how you plan to setup the chip as it’s still all relatively unexplored concepts for Vergil.
