"Remember what we used to say? JACKPOT!" The Vergil Team Building Thread

I feel you. I personally started with SSF4 for about a year ago, and I had no idea how to do dp:s. All you see is fancy combo videos but they’re not practical. The only help i can give you though is not use shortcut uppercuts and just sit in training mode and practice dp:s. Also if you’re new to fighting games Vesperarcades ssf4 tutorial (Very helpful!) and Sf4 is a very nice introduction to fighting games
Good luck

A trick I do for the :f::d::df: is i press the :f: first then do a fire ball motion :d::df::f: use the :f::h: call an assist then teleport behind your opponent. keep vergil just keep practicing don’t give up.

Can I get some input, or advice?

I’ve been running Vergil(Rapid Slash), Nova(Centurion Rush), and Hawkeye(Violet Fizz).

I feel like Vergil and Hawkeye work well together, but I don’t feel like Nova fits in at all. Right now Vergil is my best character so I’d prefer to keep him on point. But does anyone have any opinions on a second character? I’m open to pretty much anything, I just want a little more synergy.

I’ve also been experimenting with Vergil(Rapid Slash), Frank (Shopping Cart), and Hawkeye(Violet Fizz)

I feel like this team works a little better, but I’m still open to input and advice.

Those aren’t unblockable…

H Vajra isn’t an overhead.

I humbly suggest you have Vergil second. It makes sense for ALL the right reasons.

Nova does grown man damage. you can do a combo with Nova that ends with “Let’s bring it! Power of Vergil” DHC into DT or Swords and proceed to mop up with Nova’s overhead Centurion Rush M adding more mixup fuel to the fire.

I think you team is fine. Just put Vergil second. He’s your best. So once you get the opening with Nova. There should be no problems with Vergil putting them away.

@Densuo

Thank you for the advice, I’ll give it a shot in the lab today. You make a lot of sense with it too. When I actually think about it, everything works, assists, dhc, tac. Man I feel so spacey not trying this earlier.

Thank you!

Glad this scrub could be of assistance.

Im new to Vergil…other than Zero may cry what is the cheapest team out there with Vergil? (im tired of losing to cheap teams lol)

What do you guys think about Deadpool(Katanarama)/Dante(Jam Session)/ Vergil(Rapid Slash)?

Any team with Vergil is the best team…

I currently am working on Spencer/Doom/Vergil… The sickness.

I figured I’d post my team progress:

I spent a good amount of time in training mode, and landed my first full Morrigan double Soul Fist combo! (j.S, s.LMH, f.H, j.MMH, qcf.H, qcb.S addf, j.H, qcf.H, qcb.S, s.S, sj.MMH, dp.M/H, qcf.AA) I actually did it quite a few times in a row, which felt pretty good. I’ve had to do my own single Soul Fist variant for a while now.

XF3 Vergil with DT on does 400K chip damage with Dimension Slash. WTF.

I found out that Vergil can DHC glitch to Morrigan. I didn’t mess with it a lot, but she can definitely start doing a Soul Fist loop from that point. Throw, Devil Trigger, Astral Vision, Soul Fist loop. As with any other throw -> tag situation, the Soul Fists don’t seem to suffer from damage decay, since just landing 2 of them did 240K. I’ll mess with it more some other time, though.

Landed Helm Breaker, Dark Hole, High Rise (df.H’s name, right?), j.S once. Hard as hell, not sure if I’ll be able to do it for a long time. Since someone discovered that you can Spiral Swords, High Rise, Lunar Phase to OTG someone after Helm Breaker, but that’s way too hard for me, I might try and do Helm Breaker, Dark Hole, Spiral Swords, High Rise to see what happens. I don’t care about the damage scaling, I’d just like some way to benefit from happy birthdays without blowing X-Factor when I catch them on a Helm Breaker.

Did my first sword loop. The c.H after Judgment Cut L is hard as heck to get out. Not sure why. I might end my loops early for a while like some noobs do.

Tried to do the Dimension Slash -> Stalking Flare -> 3D0C combo, but my j.S wasn’t spiking. Not sure why.

Gah, the hitstun decay on f.H is just brutal for Dormammu. I can’t seem to get anything more than this combo going:
j.S, c.LHS, sj.MMHS, dash, call Rapid Slash, Flame Carpet, f.H, Dark Hole, Chaotic Flame.

In corners I get a full relaunch, so this is mostly an issue with mid-screen. I’d like to be able to get more, just so I can get the Dark Harmonizer call in.

If I call Rapid Slash at the same time I throw Dark Matter, they always combo. I can wait for Rapid Slash to hit before I teleport, and then air dash into j.S for a full combo.

Starting a round by throwing Round Trip and canceling into Devil Trigger provides ALMOST enough time to combo off the Round Trip after a hard tag. AAAAALMOST. :frowning: Still a fantastic way to start rounds if I want Morrigan or Dormammu on point. People are too scared of Vergil to start near him.

So what’s the best iteration of a Vergil/Dante/Strider team? Is it Vergil(Rapid)/Dante(Crystal)/Strider(Vajra)? Dante(Crystal)/Vergil(Rapid)/Strider(Vajra)? Or should I use Jam/Weasel Shot instead?

Also I cannot get the full Vergil bnb (into helm breaker), call dante, roundtrip crH judgement cut L combo. The opponent techs after crystal/roundtrip.

So wait, you also play Vergil, Dorm, Morrigan? Finally someone I can share with

I don’t play as heavily as I use to due to a wrist injury but I can say anything> helm breaker +call Dark Hole assist> SS> High time leads into sword loops. I didn’t know about the DHC glitch to Morrigan so I’ll play with that when I’m bored as well. Also Chaotic flame DHCs to SS pretty easily especially in corners for when you need the kill. Rapid slash assist is loads of fun for light Dorm zoning and spell charging. This was always my fun team so I still haven’t ventured too deep into the synergy but I just got excited someone else actually picked it up.

Yup, I do all of the above. I’ve been using Dormammu/Morrigan since Vanilla. Just got around to putting Vergil in after dropping Firebrand since Ultimate’s release. The poor guy is just so poorly designed for solo play. I do pretty well with this team unless I’m facing Hulk+Drones…no clue how to handle that with Vergil. Still learning sword loops - just did my first one the other day, but it’s not very consistent. My opponent seems to fall too far away for Spiral Swords to reconnect after the second c.H.

What you think about vergil doom and wesker its good or not and wich assist its the best missiles or beam?

Could someone direct me to or educate me on this Vergil/Ammy lockdown theory? I’ve heard theres certian patterns that make this duo amazing. Any idea what I’m talking about or am I just trippin balls?

I’m a beginner at this game and I’ve been trying to make a team based around Vergil. So far, the main team I’ve been messing around with is Vergil (Rapid Slash)/Sentinel (Drones)/Wesker (Samurai Edge), since those are 2 of my other favorite characters to use. Drones for mixups and Samurai Edge for OTG combo extensions. I’ve just been using Wesker on anchor since with XF4 he can be insane. I was just wondering if any of yall had thoughts/suggestions to make on this team setup/order.

Also, I tried to look around but didn’t really see anything regarding it, but would a Vergil (Rapid Slash)/Wesker (Samurai Edge)/Akuma (Tatsu) team be viable?

Thanks in advance!

You are indeed not tripping balls sir.

Vergil/Ammy is a stupid strong core once you realize it’s hidden potential: Chip. The lockdown itself is great in which it gives Vergil on opportunity to pretty much do whatever he wants. And while teleporting/chucking round trips/trying to open someone up while Cold Star is rolling is great, the true destructiveness comes from the amount of lockdown and chip that can be produced with the pair. In one sequence, without meter, vergil/ammy can chip a character by atleast 30% if you string all your hits together(this is through the use of the round trip glitch + judgement cut + cold star). This is very akin to the spiral chip setups(although you’ll need to have another lock-down based assist to have the full on trap if that’s what you want to go for otherwise there will be a second, or so between your calls).

The other plus side to this is that you receive several dirty round trip mix-up’s, and also obtain an assist that allows you to convert off of a helm breaker. The meter gain from the chip is also very nice, and if your opponent tries to push-block they are usually forced into several other mix-up’s or end up push-blocking incorrectly and getting caught in the middle of something(which can usually be converted into a combo).

With that said you can place just about any other character alongside those two and gain even more synergy(and usually greater lockdown/mix-up’s). My preferred choice of a a third character is Magneto(running it as Magneto/Vergil/Ammy). With mags I get Vergil’s best beam assist, (next to iron man’s), plus the mags/ammy core that makes his mix-up game, (as well as neutral depending on the spacing), hell for most of the cast. Another good character that could be parried off with those two is also Doom(for, once again, obvious reasons). With doom missiles or even molecular shield your able to cover up that second between having to wait for ammy to be available again, and instead have even tighter chip strings that become even more potent and harder to escape. Of course missiles will always be missiles, but with molecular shield you can get some interesting mix-up’s and just general conversions off of various things with Vergil. Not to mention Doom/Ammy is already a great core with the THC, cold star mix-up’s, etc.

As a bonus, here is a video on Magneto/Vergil/Ammy so you can get kind of a basic look at what ammy has to offer Vergil:

Wow… eventually I kinda wanna build a team around this. Looks similar to the mvc2 clockwork stuff (even though I never played that game).

Thanks a lot for all the information, other than magneto and doom who do you think would be an Ideal third partner?

Yea it can be mvc2 strider-like chip when you add swords to the mix(technically you can chip whole teams out once you add spiral swords).

In terms of other ideal characters that can fit with those two IMO:

 • Doctor Strange, Hawk-eye(quick shot can be used similar to a beam), Strider (Vergil with Vajra can be very good, and with Ammy the conversion for it gets easier), Taskmaster(same as Hawk-eye), and Dante(jam session can help Vergil, and Ammy out a lot)

Characters that are not so much ideal, but can work IMO:

-Nova, Sentinel, Iron-Man, Haggar, rocket-raccoon, Akuma, Firebrand, Dormmamu, M.O.D.O.K, Storm, C. Viper, Spencer
