Hi! I’m a beginner (although I’m looking to change that) and I have a few team building questions to ask:
Firstly, who works the best with Vergil’s Rapid Slash assist?
And I really want to use the team _______/Vergil/Morrigan, especially because Vergil probably benefits a lot from Morrigan’s Dark Harmonizer, but that leaves the point character with only Vergil’s Rapid Slash as an assist. Who would work best on point for this team? (Considering not only assists, although that’s the main thing, but also DHC and maybe even TAC/THC, and hopefully maybe even works well with Dark Harmonizer?)
Welcome aboard the SPARDA (thanks Eclipse lol) Sons train, Vergil Cart edition!
I’d say Zero, Wesker, Dante, Deadpool… basically anyone that can OTG (hit an opponent during knockdown). So it would go something like combo into knockdown > call Vergil & OTG > relaunch/continue combo/etc. I’m not sure Vergil’s assist resets anything so that combos can continue longer than normal, but at least you’ll have a great use for Rapid Slash & be stylish to boot
Come on Dlanijer, it’s the “Sparda Sons train”, this isn’t the peloponnesian war my friend.
Zero works great with Vergil since Rapid Slash helps extend his combos on point. Gives Zero a decent increase in damage. The two have goood DHCs and a lot of synergy if you like Zero.
A few people have been asking me what combo I use with my OTG of choice (Viper) soooo here.

SN: Anyone know how I can improve the quality or a better program for capturing? I’m using Videopad editor which is some cheap easy-mode shit I found lol
Has anyone ever tried Vergil with Akuma assist? Does Akuma help him pretty well?
I’m running Cap/Vergil/Doom, but I REALLY want to get rid of Doom. I like him, but not as an anchor without an assist. The only thing I’ll really miss is him beam. Looking for a good replacement. Not necessarily an equally good assist, but something that allows Vergil and Cap to get their mix up going.
Character I’ve been looking at are Akuma, Trish, Dormammu, Chris, Strider(though I don’t think he’d that good of an anchor considering how much meter I burn with Cap and Vergil).
Which of those assists would you guys go with, and which makes the best anchor(able to open people up, do huge damage/chip, etc)? I know Sentinel is a good option, but I don’t like the character at all, so I choose not to go with the drones. Also not a big fan of Hawkeye, either.
Sentinel is a shitty anchor really. I’d rather play Doom anchor than Sentinel anchor because Sentinel dies to pushblocking. If the opponent just blocks Sentinel is the most garbage anchor. You’re not opening people up with Sent unless they’re sleeping. I’ve been using Doom anchor for a long time and although he doesn’t 2 for one and chip down like some of the other anchors his mix up is very solid and he can dash through advance guards to stay in once he gets in.
If you’re going to play Sentinel as anchor just make sure you perform as well as you can with the first 2 characters before he’s out. Anyone good will find it really easy to lame him out since he barely even has a cross up game and a limited high/low game with no real anti advance guard tools.
Akuma makes everybody better though and is still a solid anchor so definitely don’t hesitate to do Akuma.
Yea if you play Sentinel anchor you pretty much betting on your ability to clean house with your first 2 characters. Dark Sentinel is still somewhat scary if the person likes to hit buttons but if they are good at block and anticipating command grab/normal grabs hes gonna have a lot of trouble.
I’ve ended up removing Doom from my Vergil/wesker/doom team in favor of taskmaster for a few reasons. The main one being that arrows assist is so much better for Vergil on getting hit confirms and big combos through teleport mixups since it keeps them grounded and doesn’t do near as many hits. The delay on arrows getting to the target (compared to plasma beam) also allows for more creative ways to open up your opponent or catch an assist.
Overall Task isn’t the greatest anchor, and almost certainly isn’t as good as Doom, but he does have the ability to chip people out and isn’t terribly easy to just run away from. Wesker would still prefer beam over arrows but it’s a minor downgrade that still allows him to move in and do his thing as my 2nd. On top of it, even though I played doom a lot, I just never felt comfortable trying to finish games with him as anchor. He has all the tools to destroy push blocking and he has solid mobility, but for whatever reason he just has never fit my style very well. Task doesn’t have the mobility but it just feels way easier to chase someone down with him for me.
Basically if you want another projectile assist that works wonders for Vergils point game, you could do much much worse than Task.
This is almost eerie. I’ve been going Vergil/Wesker/Doom since launch and last night it hit me that I should be playing taskmaster for almost all the same reasons. Doom not fitting my style, etc. The only difference being that I might end up going Vergil/Taskmaster/Wesker, because unlike Wesker, Taskmaster has the tools to DHC out of Devil Trigger safely no matter where the opponent is on the screen. Then I can set up Taskmaster zoning with arrows + DT’d either rapid slash or judgment cut. He gets really strong with both a ridiculous zoning assist like DT rapid slash + an unblockable setup assist for when you need to get close. If taskmaster dies, you have DT vergil coming in who also gets unblockable setups for a little bit while with Wesker + airdashes + giant round trip (stuff I still haven’t worked out yet honestly) and then dark wesker when all else fails. It’s still a bunch of theory stuff but and I think if I played your order right now it’d be better because Taskmaster makes Wesker and Vergil both a lot better, but I wanna see how this works out for a little bit.
What assists should one run with Team DMC in the order of Vergil/Dante/Trish?
I know crystal is good for extending Vergil’s combos, but I really like Weasel shot and Jam sessions for their ability to keep the opponent in place. As for trish, I’m not sure which to use between the air trap and projectile.
Thats why Ive been experimenting with Vergil and Taskmaster, works pretty well so far. Task covers Vergil and benefits from his assists in the same way Hawkeye does but Taskmaster is IMO a more versatile character than Hawkeye.
Recently I re-picked up Vergil, to be in the back of Morrigan/Task/Vergil on Rising Sun.
Vergil operates as a great anti air, and also as one of the best cross counters in the game for safety or for pseudo-reversal. Vergil also makes Morrigan’s Team Hyper Combo very dangerous; I have her on blade assist so that her team hyper combo is invulnerable, then Vergil blows up the entire field and is combo-able by Morrigan in some circumstances. Morrigan’s zoning game builds enough meter for Vergil to be potent alone. Seems good!
Hey man, i saw your posts in the Virgil team building section and your post regarding dropping wesker really interested me. Whenever i play Virgil I feel obligated to playing wesker for his OTG which extends combos very easily but 1) i hate wesker 2) i cant play wesker so its pritty much a 2v3 in most cases. If you had the time i would like to ask some ways you get around not having wesker as a character and how you make ur Virgil spiral sword loops work and so on and also how your team of Virgil/ghostrider/dorm worked out for you.
Atm i am running with Frank/Virgil/Dorm and the only issue is keeping my Virgil combos alive as im so used to wesker otgs ):
Anyway, thanks in advance for any help regarding this matter.
