That’s what I’ve been thinking. I’m glad my conclusions aren’t completely false. I knew his mixups weren’t that great outside of assists. But come to think of it, there’s two other viable mixups I thought of. Sword Storm and Blistering Swords. They’re very costly though. But if it’s 1 on 1, he could probably handle it.
Vergil pretty much has no high/low mixups, right? The only one I can think of that doesn’t involve burning meter is Helm Breaker (Incorrectly translated as Helmet Breaker by the way, haha), Trick Down/Trick to low attack, or Helm Breaker > Trick Up > Helm Breaker again. That seems really easy to block on reaction though. Maybe with XF3 and DT, his speed will be so godlike, you can’t block it on reaction. Who knows, haha.
Helmet Breaker isn’t high though, so the second mixup wouldn’t work as intended.
Vergil’s high/low game is almost non-existant, which is one of the reasons why I like him with a good overhead assist like Centurion Rush as it gives him another layer in his game plan.
Hey guys Im a very new player and I’d appreciate some advise. I was thinking about starting with Storm/Hawkeye/Vergil. Do you think that is any good and what assists would be best with this or what should I change?
I agree, his Round Trip to M teleport seems to be his only true 50/50. I’ve been using that lately and a late teleport leads to some hard stuff to block. The only bad thing about it is that Round Trip comes out very slow and is easily punished on reaction. It also seems to kind of work like Cap’s Shield Slash and if they attack you while it’s out and you block, the projectile is rendered as gone. =(
i’d change it to storm/vergil/hawkeye. hawkeye anchor is more viable than vergil imo. not sure which storm or vergil assist works well with that team, but definitely use hawkeye’s greyhound assist.
Vergil is more like a more mobile Sentinel like I’ve been saying. He’s not really this character that mixes you up all day unless you call assists. Once you call assists you can easily get hurp durp 50/50 left rights which automatically makes his mix up better than Sentinel’s any way. He also gets what Vanilla Sentinel used to have which is free combos after every air grab.
Yeah Hawkeye’s only mix up as anchor is tick throws into combos. The only other mix up he has is assist call + H trick left/right 50/50 which you need an assist for any way.
Is Vergil a viable top tier anchor in you Vergil players opinion? I was trying him out in Mission mode and really like move set and what not and it just feels like he can completley devastate people with a Level 3 X-factor and Devil Trigger. I’m looking for someone to fit that role and was wondering if he could be the guy?
This some matchups become really bad if he gets put 1 v 1. But with assists I don’t think he has any truly bad matchups.
Morrigan is terrible without assists, she can run for days and vergil just doesn’t have the solo mixup/mobility to open her up. Hawkeye without assists is also rough.
Also if he’s anchor and gets put against projectile character/Strider he has a lot of trouble solo.
Vergil/Magneto is actually pretty strong. Disruptor is really fast, hardly prorates, and is easily combo’d off of with his normals.
I use wesker though and he’s a much better anchor than vergil so … zzzzzzz
I think it’s kind of amusing how everyone assumed he’d be the next Dark Phoenix, greatest anchor ever. Now we’re all agreeing he’s better with assists than on anchor. Goes to show, playing a game really changes the perspective. Nonetheless, I have a few ideas he could run for anchor that no one seems to be using that give him some pretty deadly mixups for 1 v 1. Sword Storm, and Blistering Swords without 1 on 1, since they can’t tag to escape. Summoned Sword, Trick M, Summoned Sword may be too fast for people to react to and block reliably. Especially if you time the first summoned sword to hit mid-teleport. Near impossible to tell where the game will read Vergil’s position. But when you think about 2 bars for a mixup…
When Dark Wesker can do the same thing with virtually no bars and faster teleports, and even faster teleports (X-Factor), and even faster teleports again (Without glasses)… Wesker looks like he could be a better anchor. I’m still really interested in testing the viability of Sword Storm and Blistering Swords since they’re terribly underused.
Sometimes if I realize I need a super to kill someone I’ll try to finish the combo with Swords Active then put Sword Storm on the incoming character. Really mentally pressures people because there are gaps in the swords that can result in an unsightable mixup into death combo.
Really the additional bar cost makes Blistering Swords unusable imo, but at least sword storm offers great mixup potential.
I was really tired of hurp durp anchor Vergil talk any ways. People don’t study characters for shit.
He has a ton of left/right mix up potential with assists and round trip that also helps to keep his block strings safer. Unlike Strange he actually does have safe block strings without assists and DT gives him more frame advantage and allows him to whiff cancel normals. Plus Vergil covers Sentinel worthy range with his normals.
Vergil is definitely an extremely good anchor. Even with a couple of meter he can wreak havoc with LVL3XF. Fast teleports, kills off of air throws and if you are sitting on X factor a random happy birthday Helm Breaker can turn the tide easily. Wesker isn’t godly at happy birthdays because the gun shot drops one of the characters. Spiral sword + teleport in DT and XF is almost impossible to react and is extremely dirty. Then of course Storm Swords on the final character.
Any character with great anti-air normals, fast wave dash, a teleport and full combos after air throw is a good anchor in this game. This basically means that he can get around chicken blocking extremely well which is something you deal with as an anchor a lot. While in Devil Trigger people’s estimation of what’s safe/unsafe with Vergil gets thrown out the window and they get hit by something they don’t expect after blocking. This is especially true in XF.
wats good with vergil/trish/dante I’ve fought like 8 people runnin this damn team so Imma try it
I feel Vergil enjoys coming in on heavy meter to get his shenanigans started, still good synergy with this team though. Not sure what assist to give trish, right now I’m at low voltage. Seems to be the only good one supporting those vergil mixups.
Which characters are you guys using as an otg assist aside from Wesker? I was using Iron Fist for a bit but IF seems rather hard to utilize on point. Anyone consider Deadpool?
