Out of curiosity why did you replace the buttons with X-Arcade brand buttons? I mean they are pretty much the same thing except one set is black and the other is black and maroon. Both brand of buttons are made by the same company and pretty much feel the same.
Yeah, I was able to fit my Sanwa stick in pretty much even without any extra drilling. The holes were pretty much already in the correct place. I just had to move the plate a slight bit to make sure it was evened out.
BTW, for the people that ordered the RO sticks with the Super Saver shipping, how long did it take to get the sticks to your house? Last time I ordered using the regular UPS shipping and it took like maybe 3 days. They say the Super Saver takes a few days longer but I’m hoping I get lucky.
got em within a week.
I don’t know what happened with the gallery, those are the wrong pictures. they looked ok last night. I had some X-arcade buttons put in there, because I didn’t have anything else that was black at the time. I replaced them with happ buttons, but kept the microswitches. The graphic I’m doing for that stick goes better with black buttons, and I can’t find anything to go with those off-red buttons. I have a bunch of x-arcade stuff that they sent me when I complained about quality, trust me, I know all about why Happ and Sanwa are way better parts to use.
Actually, I’m really starting to like sanwa sticks a lot.
I thought it might, but it really isnt that bad considering the square restrictor. It kind of feels ‘ergonomic’.
Still gonna change it though.
Yeah, Sanwa sticks are good. So darned precise them thangs are. Like on a Happ stick I’m used to mashing the corners all extra hard to get the commands out. On a Sanwa if I do the same thing nothing will happen. You can be extra light with the stick and still get a response. Or that’s pretty much how you have to do it. Which will take me a bit of practice to get used to. Doing 360’s and tiger knee motions are way easier though…that’s for sure.
Yeah, exactly, I have this sanwa style Virtua fighter stick I always use when playing VF, so I think I’m going to make a RO mod as a Virtua Fighter Stick and sell the official one on eBay. MAYBE— I like that controller a lot.
Hey where you live Final? Always been looking for someone in the area to play Virtua Fighter with.
**So Lseelba…**when my money gets put into my PayPal account I’ll notify you by PM and then send you the money for the 2 bat style sticks. Is that cool with you?
I live in Jacksonville, Florida. not so close to you, unfortunately.
well, i just want to thank all you guys, iseebla, spiffy, final cut, etc. for contributing to this thread. This was my first time putting a stick together, well minus the box, and it turned out great for what i did. I put in a comp stick and have a gap at the bottom, but that’s just because i had one in my old Snaaake box. That box sucked from the ground up so i was so happy to find something to transfer the parts to.
Now, are those pictures that dial 911 and final cut posted large ball tops for your sanwa sticks? If so, they dont seem so bad. I thought they’d be much bigger. Are they that much different to you guys? If not, i’d like to order one exactly like that. Also, i want to avoid top-mounting for the fact that i’ve already finalized my buttons, i’d hate to de-solder everything and i also dont have access to a router. Im assuming you got them from Iseebla, are they the older JLW-TM-8s he used to carry? If so, since he doesn’t have them anymore, where can i get one?
Thanks again guys…i’ll try and post some pics up when i get a chance. BTW, this stick SUCKED ootb. The stick didn’t know what neutral was, and would get stuck anyway you pushed it. Also, on a few random buttons, they wired the ground to where the button wire should go, and vice versa. Very wierd, glad i didn’t even test this piece of crap out.
Edit: Realized they aren’t large tops…where can i get the TM-8s with extended shafts though?
I am going to buy my RO today. I need some help though fellas. I have never done anything like this before and i want to learn as much as i possible can in order to make this stick my own (custom fit for me).
Few Question:
What type of sticks can and do you believe should be put in this box.
(i already have a competition but i want a different one now)
Buttons/Microswitches.
I prefer convex buttons so i guess competition would be the best choice.
does the RO have good microswitches?
Art work.
- where do i get it printed
- what type of material do i put it on
- how do i insert it
- ideas for best places to find images…
- what size should it be.
Yo i need any help you could give.
links, advice, or anything to get me going in the right directions.
understanding voltage is something i need to consider as well(i am a newb when it comes to electronics)

I’d say the Microswitches are OK, but I haven’t done any extensive testing. they are nice and clicky. If you are careful, you can probably get away with just putting in those happ competition buttons and a sanwa stick and using all the same microswitches without soldering anything, just detaching them still wired… not sure how well this would work, but looks possible to me.
based of your post i can assume that the RO has quick connect wires?
It uses quick connects but not for every wire. On the buttons one wire is QD and the other is just soldered onto the switch. There’s a black wire connected to the switches on the stick itself that is soldered on as well.
The wire that is soldered to the switches is the ground chain. There is a ground wire coming from the PCB that has a quick disconect on it and connects to one switch. And the soldered chain of wires basically daisy chains it to the rest of the switches. It isn’t hard to daisy chain the ground to the rest of the buttons with some quick disconects.
Hit me up on AIM…I got one left. I have several UM-8’s too.
That’s cool. I have only one black left though. Have several reds still.
i just put in my order so i will be posting more question once i have it.
what about the artwork?
Alright I just got my shipment from lik-sang.com of 2 Total Control Plus Dreamcast converters and 2 Dreambox Xbox converters. **The TC Plus works great **with the Red Octane stick. No input lag at all. Then there’s the Dreambox converters. Since no one could answer this question earlier I figured I might as well buy them myself and test. **Well…just as I figured at least one of these converters was gonna have input lag and the Dreambox definitely does. **
**Not only does it have input lag with these sticks but the only button that the converter recognizes is the start button. ** Maybe it does recognize the select button but there’s no point in figuring that out any ways. So in a fight all you can do is move around and pause. Which also technically means you can’t get past the game select screen when you turn the game on (I had to put in an Xbox controller to go through the menus first, LOL). That’s wonderful. I should have bought a magic box converter also to see if maybe that would have worked but they’re a bit more expensive and I’m pretty sure I would have gotten the same results. If anyone wants to risk the 25 bux and buy a magic box to see the results then that’s fine. But for those that are going to buy the Dreambox converter (which is otherwise a great converter) you’re going to need to take the next step in modding and put a Dual Shock PCB in your stick.
**Oh and concerning the DS PCB’s. Has anyone already put a Dual Shock PCB in their stick yet or does anyone know of a site that would give me a good idea of how to put a DS PCB in a stick like this? ** I want this thing to work with my Xbox so I can play SF AC online and play whatever random Xbox fighters I have.
