Awesome. by the time the month is over, I’ll probably have about 30 arcade sticks. as of now, I just have some gutted Red Octanes waiting to be finished. Can’t wait to see your stuff.
nice one, dial911. also the happ spacer thing doesn’t look bad at all!
curious about this…are the jlws as loose as the stock red octane stick?
God, you aren’t kidding. the first case I got, the buttons popped out easily with a little bit of wiggling. My next one, I had to smash those sh!ts out with a damn hammer. I completely destroyed them, and I was happy to do it. :nunchuck:
The case was totally f-ed up to begin with. the stick was in crooked, the screws holding the bottom on were poking out of the side, and the plastic cover didn’t match the holes, making the bottom slice up your wrists when moving them around during play, not to mention restricting the buttons from coming out/going in. Oh, also, there was a dent in the case and 2 of the wires had fallen off the PCB.
Regardless, I put in that Sanwa stick I got from Iseelba (thanks, by the way!) along with some happ buttons, and it seems to be a lot better now. I need to get some graphics printed and the wiring done. Like Iseelba said, The sanwa sticks fit perfectly on the mounting plate. once I get my sticks with the Circular restrictor plate, I’ll be all set. Thanks to spiffyshoes for letting me know about that deal. I didn’t know you could get a circular plate for sanwas before he mentioned it here.
The buttons on mine were actually screwed into the wood. The wood was threaded and everything, so I just unscrewed them back out. Start and select were particularly difficult to remove… I had to grab some pliers.
LOL. Should have made an order on Happcontrols.com and threw in a Happ button wrench. I hear it makes life 10 times easier when you’re unscrewing those extremely tight nuts. LOL.
Are you referring to the rings that unscrew from the bottom of the buttons? those things came out without a problem. It’s just that the crooked plastic cover of the stick was wedging the buttons in. I took some pictures of everything and how crappy it was, maybe I’ll post them. I was really hoping I could use that plastic, sucks that it doesn’t fit.
Where would be a good place to order some Sanwa JLW-UM-8 joysticks?
Also, would standard balltops fit these? I looked at himura amusements, but I think you have to know a product number or something?
Yeah, Lseelba says you have to ask them by email. I tried emailing them last week and still haven’t gotten a response. I’ll just order from Lseelba then. LOL.
Just sand the holes a little bit to widen them so they fit better. If you don’t have a dremel tool then a metal file works really well.
I would, but I think he said he ran out. I want to get a light blue balltop.
Dremel tool, you say?
I think I’ll get one, actually, they seem pretty useful. The plastic is gone, though. It had a big crack/nick in it that went along with the dent in the case.
If any of you guys wanna sell me a JLW-UM-8, I would be grateful.
The battop Sanwas I just got are JLW-UM-8’s. The ones I was selling earlier were JLW-TM-8’s with an extended shaft.
The JLW-UM-8’s have a larger thread on the shaft, so you can only fit the battop and the large balltop on them (LB45).
Oh yeah…I have the battops in red and black. $27 including shipping.
I also have a bunch of red, black, and white new Happ competition buttons (with nuts/cherry switches). $1.75 each (i.e. $14 for a set of 8, $17.50 for 10). PM me if interested.
Yeah, I’m going to order one of the bat tops from you later today. I think I might actually try paying with Paypal this time since my other RO sticks probably won’t come in till late this week/next week. So I won’t bother you on your business account. LOL.
Final Cut…I’ll sell my ball top JLW to you. I’ll use the money to pay for the two bat style JLW’s I’m bout to buy from Lseelba.
It may not be for a couple days though cuz I wanna put some money in my PayPal account first. Unless you desperately need it now.
My digital camera raped me today. I had a corrupted memory card in there. So I took a complete set of pictures for the modding tutorial, and I can’t transfer any of them to my computer. I’ll have to mod another tomorrow and make sure my pictures work this time.
Until then, here’s a bad shot of my fully modded stick (yeah thats a black Sanwa JLW-UM-8 in there): http://img362.imageshack.us/my.php?image=redoct3tq.jpg
Ah, I already finished the deal earlier today with Iseelba. Thanks though.
I posted some pictures of my case so far here:

As of right now, its just some Happ Buttons and a sanwa stick. look how crooked that plate is, though.
isn’t that crooked plate gunna mess with your directions? O_o
Nah. The Red Octane case is MDF. You can just screw woodscrews right into it without a drill. He can easily mount another plate in the correct configuration (or just fix that plate).
