yea he got back to me today…i just wish contact was made sooner, but he was still as helpful as he could be. So all in all, i would order again from him, i’d just make sure i got in contact with him first. He’s a busy guy…
Are these sticks still selling for 20? I’m looking at the site and I see 30, and this was going through the link in the first post (it just sends me directly to redoctane.com).
Quick questions, I’m probably going to put a Happ Comp in there, so what would be the best way to fit it in the box without losing too much of the normal feel?
Are the PCB’s prewired with QDs or are they soldered? And is the PCB worth keeping or would it be a better idea to swap the pcb out?
Even if the boxes are 30 I’ll probably pick one up just for modding sake.
nope, these are back at 30 bucks now. Getting a happ in there will take some work, as you will probably have to dremmel the wood on both the top and bottom to make it fit. Albert_c did one for me, and it works like a damn champ, I love it. I’m not exactly sure how much work he put into getting the wood out and how, but I’m sure it was a tough to do.
The PCBs are soldered to the stick, but QDs are on the buttons. On a few of my sticks, I just left all the old switches, and connected the sticks and the buttons using the stock switches, without taking off the wires.
come to think of it, I think I did get a stick once without QDs, though…
I think it would be wise to put a new PCB in, though.
You have any pics of how Albert_c got the happ to fit? I’m really curious to see how it was done.
I’ll take a look at it when I get home.
I’m kind of nervous about opening it though, because I can feel the bottom of the stick moving when I put my hand on the bottom, it rubs on that coating material from the inside. its certainly a tight fit.
The other thing you need to be careful about when opening and closing the case is not to crush the PCB. When you put Happ competition buttons in there, there is a LOT less room for the PCB. I had to move the PCB on one of the cases because it would not close with the PCB and the Happ buttons in there. Just don’t force it or you will break the PCB.
Looking forward to see how a Comp can fit. Even if you were to cut a hole on the bottom of the case for the stick to fit into, it still wouldn’t fit?
Just wanted to say thanks to **SpiffyShoes **for helping me to mod my RO sticks and all that good stuff. Can’t wait to play on them. Thanks again.
Oh and Lseelba, when I get the shipment from Spiffy (as long as it’s cool with you) I’m going to send you a 3rd stick to mod. I’ll throw in a PCB and all that good stuff with it. Gonna have to buy some more parts from Happcontrols. Only problem is the PCB I’m gonna send has a little bit of a beat up wire. You might have to duct/electric tape a bit of the wire cuz some of it is exposed. I’ll probably end up just gutting the other PS2 controller I have but we’ll see. Just letting you know in advance.
You sure you don’t just want me to mod one of the Red Octane’s I have? I still have a few I haven’t even taken out of the box yet. It will save you on shipping…but of course you’d have an extra unmodded Red Octane. Ebay maybe?
Actually…that would be great. That means I could definitely get it sooner. An extra unmodded RO stick is no problem. I could easily sell the parts to someone else and they could mod it later on. I’m bout to put some more money into my Paypal account today. If you’re cool with it it’d be great if you could get started on modding the stick like…NOW.
Once I get the money in the Paypal account I’ll send you whatever funds you need. If you have a bat style stick laying around I would prefer you to mod the stick with that one since my friend seems to prefer the bat style. Throw some Happ buttons on there in the Xbox color layout. Oh and if you can do anything like put plexiglass on there, sand the edges so they don’t cut into you while you’re playing, artwork etc…that’d be great. Thanks in advance.
See my post below. Look at the wiring job picture and you’ll see I had to dremel the hell out of the enclosure to get the stick to fit.
I’m planning on modding my RedOctane stick, and I want to customize it with some awsome (to me at least) Strider Hiryu graphics. Since I’m a total noob at modding, I wanted to ask all y’all what the best way to do that would be, assuming I can find a big enough graphic for such an unpopular charactor. I’d like it to look nice, and I assume just printing something out on regular paper would probably look cheesy. What do you guys do?
How did you paint your stick, Dale? Should I just sand that thing off, or should I pull off that black coating on the wood? what kind of paint should I use?
I’d like to know also. I want to put a nice red job all over my RO case. Also, what would you use to make it shine and protect the paint? Think turtle wax would work?
Dale, that paint job looks sooooo nice! Looks like you even painted the washer(?) thingy.
Has anyone here on the forum top mounted one of these things with a sanwa? I just ordered a few sticks from Himura, and I was planning on giving it a try based on Armadi||o’s tutorial, I was just wondering if anyone had some pictures.
Most print shops can print directly to the plastic covering, just take a 'shopped image to them and they can do it, try Kinko’s or the like.
When you say a shopped image…does that mean you could like print the image out on a piece of paper and then have them scan it on the plastic? I would assume I would have to remove the plexiglass from the stick first right?
What I meant was that you can take a file you have saved onto your media of preference(zip disk,CD, Floppy) that you have photoshopped yourself, and they can print directly on the plastic/lexan/whatever. I would think it would be best to remove the plastic first, but I’m sure some places could do it on the case so long as you took the buttons and stick out. I’m pretty sure this is what the QCF people do, have the cover printed on directly.
another option would be to print on some kind of Vinyl sticky,(kind of like you see on the side of vehicles) and placing it under the plastic yourself.
If nothing else, they could print a digital image for you on large photo paper at your local CVS/Eckerd/Walgreens other film developing place, and you could cut it out to fit the buttons and stick.
I have a picture here that I think would be cool to get printed out on the plexiglass of my stick.
Actually…finalcut, if you or someone else could photoshop that image for me that’d be great. Like the whole layout just below where all the rest of the characters are. It has the nice 3rd Strike logo on the side and Ibuki and Akuma lookin sweet on the right. Obviously if you could get rid of the little banner that says “characters” on the bottom that’d be great. I just want a nice plain red background under Ibuki and Akuma. Hopefully Ibuki’s face won’t be get crowded by the button holes.
Would you need to photoshop button holes as well or could they just print around the holes that have already been made on the plexiglass? Since my stick only has the regular 6 button Capcom layout (not using the L1/L2 buttons on the red octane stick) you wouldn’t need to make holes for the extra 2 slanted buttons on the left. Just the regular Capcom style 3 punch buttons and 3 kick buttons
I’ll definitely see what I can do. I’m no Photoshop pro, but I’m pretty decent with layouts.(I work as a publisher) I’ll see if I can look up Spiffy’s Templates, they are basically the same, all you have to do is erase the 2 lowered buttons on the left.
Having those black holes can really help the printer get an idea of alignment, too.
I’ll probably have time to work on it some tonight. I’ll let you know. I’m working on finding graphics for my own stick tonight, so I’ll definitely be in ‘layout mode’.
