I agree with what you have been saying, the only problem is that you’re missing the point that many players aren’t playing to get better, they’re playing “just for fun.”
Back in the day when it was the arcade generation aka the pay to play generation in front of your entire community, you weren’t giving it your all because you wanted to win, you were doing it because you had to win. Today, just turn on your console and play anyone randomly online. It doesn’t matter if you win or lose. If you lose you don’t have to wait over an hour in line for your next turn and pay again, so it’s no surprise that nowadays the affect of comeback mechanics is not stressed as much.
To be honest shoultzula, I really don’t see the point of asking for a VS reboot. We both know that it is highly unlikely that if a reboot does occur, that the new version is going to be anywhere close to as balanced as VS nor will they be able to maintain the depth without getting extremely lucky. If anything will need to be fixed, you will be probably charged again via DLC, maybe a “super” or “ultimate” version. Furthermore, Capcom is done with 2D but they do not have sufficient experience with 2.5D, so I hope they don’t plan on doing a VS reboot any time soon.
So your telling me I have to pay $300 dollars (on clearance) just to find a mid range laptop (console) to play on? And you bet it would be able to handle it? Only a rich dude would throw this kind of $$ at a bet like this. And why the heck would I want to play to a little laptop screen? Then I have to get controllers compatible with it? I already spent enough $$ on a console and arcade stick.
GGPO is for rich people
Killer instinct 3 - Netherealm are the same people who made MK9 so it would be interesting, and if KI3 is a success the two titles should do a collab ( mortal kombat and killer instinct ).
Bloody Roar, It was fun playing bloody roar 3 on the ps2, if there is another game, it would be great and reunite old fans
Capcom vs SNK 3 would be cool, but doubt that is going to happen anytime soon
any of these games will bring the old school fans to play and buy it.
Considering how every single new sequel we’ve gotten, the fans have complained about how it doesnt live up to its old school predecessors, do people really want their old games to be remade? Do you really want another SF4, KOF12, MVC3, destroying your precious memories?
I get the feeling people would actually be much happier if someone actually made a proper GGPO/Supercade-like service where you can play old games with great netcode easily and legally, on all platforms, PCs and consoles. That also allows you to bring it on a disc to tournaments and run setups legally. Or at least more 3S-OE sorts of things.
Actually, there’s a thought. Just like the slightly-dorky-but-still-awesome Shenmue was rebooted into the much more trendy and popular Yakuza series, they should really reboot VF. Keep the all the gameplay identical, right down to characters moves and such, but completely redo the character visual/voice design, backstories, and the plot/theme of the game, into something less embarassing. Oh, and give the series a new name, that’s the most embarassing part.
Heck, they could make it a Yakuza spinoff. They already have a Yakuza zombie shooter spinoff, why not a FG?
Hmm, Instead what they should do is remake the classics, like super street fighter 2 hd remix, so make Killer instinct HD , i got the emulator and the graphics arent great, also make it online, it would be so sick if they put it on the xbox marketplace as an arcade, rare are owned by microsoft aswell…
I’m more into killer instinct than bloody roar and capcom vs snk. the 2 titles weren’t as known as killer instinct. Killer instinct was good competition against sf and mk.
Again similar to "How many times do i have to say Capcom doesn’t own Jojo’s?"
SNK doesn’t have any rights to Data East games and/or Rage of the Dragons.
G-Mode owns the rights to most if not all of Data East games which includes Karnov the character and game.
As for Ryoko you can get the World Heroes version.
At the same time, however, VF has pretty much always been a staple. Personally, I’d like to see both series side by side as they have enough differences as far as appeal and how they play, despite the vast similarities i.e. Give FV the VF-level polish and tweaking. Basically if GG and BB were around at the same time and if BB didn’t get the bastard child treatment. Either that or just make FM2. :V
Besides, you can make all sorts of crazy, screwed customs for the VF characters already.
Oh, and playing fighting games for the story. Yeah. Okay.
Well, Yakuza/Ryu ga Gotoku was already made by a good amount of the Shenmue team already. Not a reboot, but more of a “spiritual successor” as far their focus, similarities and what not. Also, a zombie spinoff is kinda expected as the series has some wacky camp moments already i.e. A Feudal Japan spinoff, a certain part in Y2. Don’t even get me started on some of the side missions. OF THE END is simply cranking it up to 11.
Shrug, whilst story barely matters in a FG, the less painful and embarassing stuff you have to ignore, the better. BB shows that having a coherent universe can add to a game. And the personality and backstory of a character adds to their appeal. Otherwise we might as well be playing FGs made of stick figures.
The alternative is for VF to go completely sandbox - characters dont have set names, voices or even maybe genders. You get to completely construct your fighter’s appearance/audio from scratch, like an MMO.
So are you for or against a Yakuza-skinned VF then? I couldnt tell from your post
Edit: Story isn’t what should get a game rebooted anyways, if anything we should be asking for a game that brings back something the genre is missing. Between Blazblue and MK we have more than enough overwrought insane storytelling as it is
I guess the counterexamples are the crossover games. Sure, they usually invent some BS to explain it, but having Megaman characters alongside Marvel or RE characters just looks crazy and wierd. Of course, thats part of the fun of those games. But sometimes its also good to have a proper world/theme.
Primal Rage without the funny puppet stop-motion is not the same. In fact now the technology would make puppet animation even more detailed. But they’ll opt for 3D instead…
Jojo would be interesting but with new characters. The manga is still ongoin (over 104 volumes, I stopped reading at volume 63).
The game is based on volumes 13-28, so a change would be welcome, just keep some of the old mechanics.
those emulated games can run on a 10 year old desktop PC.
That’s one way MK gave me hope, those games (KI, MK, PR) just aren’t right if they’re not trashy, sleazy, and cheesy, but NRS at least seems to be aware of that
BB? Coherent? Lost me there. If you said Eternal Champions, then you’d have a case.
Anyways, VF’s character designs are that of simplicity and subtlety (just like the game, in general) to show off. I don’t need to know much about Jeffry, because it’s pretty straightforward: A big angry black guy who hits harder than Kimbo Slice. Jacky is your typical hot-blooded American race car driver who fights like Bruce Lee. Kage is a ninja. It’s like how I see Geese Howard’s design. Simple, but at a glance, you can tell what he’s all about: Rich, powerful and evil. That’s all that needed for that kind of character appeal.
I mean, don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind fleshed out details, but elaborate stuff can be overrated and sometimes, simply not needed.
I can make Jean look like Lilith or whatever else the heck I want and there’s TONS of stuff to mess with. And besides, shoehorning sandbox elements to anything doesn’t always work and really doesn’t add much in the end anyway.
Part of me wouldn’t mind too much, but at the same time, I’d rather leave fan pandering (adding characters from series) out. I’ll take customize items to make characters from RGG and the like though.
