It’s still annoying that we have all these people posting up “BRING IT BACK I LOVE VS” and yet you never see them at events for the game nor on GGPO. I mean fuck yeah most will get beat up but that’s no big thing, that’s half the game. Fuck Shouts beat my ass a few days on Stream, that shit aint stopping me.
Aww, the Killer Instinct thread got closed, eh? That’s too bad. I was really beginning to feel the nostalgia! That Orchid theme…
The thread seems silier because of the fact that the scene for the game is tiny. I wouldn’t have much of a problem with the thread if folks were actually playing the game.
I mean…
Situation 1:
Employee: Fans have been asking for a sequel to Vampire Savior for years & there are ten thousand+ requests between large sites like SRK & Capcomunity.
Boss: Does the game have regular streams we can check to get some rough numbers?
Employee: There are very few streams or events and they mostly max out at a total of 1k views compared to Mahvel and Street Fighters constant 20k+ totals in archives.
Boss: How about no?
Situation 2:
Employee: Fans have been asking for a sequel to Vampire Savior for years & there are ten thousand+ requests between large sites like SRK & Capcomunity.
Boss: Does the game have regular streams we can check to get some rough numbers?
Employee: The game has a regular scene with multiple streams and tournaments every year outside Japan. Average views per stream are 8-10k total in the archives.
Boss: I can actually use this! Thanks a lot!
If people can’t get off their asses to play the game for free why would they bother making a game at all? All the game needs is a fraction of the attention and work that the BlazBlue and KOF scenes have to make it work. The first step is getting on GGPO even bi weekly…
I’d rather see them get over their fear instead. A game like Vampire can’t afford to have a picky audience IF everyone(including vets) wants a sequel.
The thing I like most about fighting games is how you can easily find some hidden treasure. Vampire has stuff like Dark force(essentially custom installs for everyone), guard cancels(basically an attempt at giving everyone a SRK), fast pace rush down, short Mahvel styled combos/mixups and an extremely varied cast that trumps many modern characters from an artistic and gameplay standpoint. Just keeping all of that and upgrading the presentation would make this game a unique property on the market already.
The list goes beyond Darkstalkers too. There are tons of games that could add a ton to the genre from a mechanical standpoint without shallow comeback mechanics or superfluous flash. This genre could go a LONG way if developers/publishers just stopped trying to reinvent the wheel with every release. Some series are so old that they may as well new even to battle hardened fucks like the FGC.
Man don’t get me started on that, ‘omg a serial account troll! Everyone else is having an interesting discussion but I’m gonna close the thread anyways!’
Way to let him win guys.
Its one of those games that has cred, but not many people actually play much. They just know its pretty and the girls are sexy
I personally think the first one is way better anyways, though.
Man I’d kill for people to play Huntwer with to
Fuck yeah Fighting Vipers! That game was a lot of fun. It’s armor system was pretty unique as were off the ropes moves and such. It’s been a LONG ass time, but I remember it being pretty cool.
That’s too bad. I was having fun in there until the flamewar holocaust destroyed everything. My KI hype was beginning to come back. Oh well. I’ll just add Killer Instinct to my list of games (besides a new CvS) for the sake of being on topic.
vampire savior as it stands right now is one of the most balanced tournament games still being played in Japan. Low tier characters win the big ass tournaments or place top 4 while some other top tier characters like bee\wolf haven’t placed nearly as high regularly.
why would people want to fuck with that? I see countless threads about how Capcom can’t balance shit or doesn’t care about it. Then there are the threads about the bad net code for the games. This game on GGPO is balanced to the point where you can play who you want and win, look @ mightymar, and you also have the best net code possible which happens to be GGPO on PC. You have the most ideal conditions right now, god like game and god like net code. People aren’t playing for free right now and you’ll think people will buy a new game? highly unlikely.
this is the problem with most of the fighting game players. They only want to play the latest and the greatest for a shot @ e-fame. Fuck playing a masterpiece against god like players, who wants to do that? I want my e-penis to grow so I can walk with swag! vampire savior as a game is about 3-4x harder to play than sf4 but since there is no e-fame associated with it, it doesn’t get any play. 99% of american players will simply play whats hot rather than whats good and its why we keep getting games like sf4 instead of more games like vampire savior.
World Heroes, and/or World Heroes characters in a new SNKP game.
Well we’re kind of wandering off point, but a lot of these games that get grandiose claims like that are actually more the product of their culture than anything else (see: defenses of MvC2’s balance). I love the vampire games I really do, but they’re not so perfect as people think. People make the exact same claims about a host of other games from within their respective cultures.
The problem with making darkstalkers 4 isn’t to me so much that they’ll mess up ‘perfection’, but that they’ll run directly into ratings problems, and that they won’t be willing to replicate the look/feel in traditional animation, and won’t be able to in 3d animation. … also it would lose a ton of money, just sweeping SRK isn’t enough to actually make a AAA game pay.
PS: Seriously, also, most people don’t want a shot at efame, they want to be able to play a wide variety of other people easily. I’ve said it before; competition is the driver more than anything else.
You really really shouldn’t be so judgmental/negative in what makes other people make different game choices than you do.
oh you’re the VS master all of a sudden? lol…
I actually play the fucking game ya know? I’m not pulling tissue paper out of my ass and calling it an opinion like yourself. I don’t know how anyone who doesn’t touch the game can have any decent opinion. In fact, that’s what idiots do. I’m not calling you one, I’m just explaining behavioral tendencies I’ve noticed.
how many tournament games can you name where more than 1 low tier player makes top 4 every year? its not sf4, its not super turbo, its not MK, its not tekken, its not virtua fighter, its not marvel, its not smash, its not 3s. In fact most games are so unbalanced, you have to pick within the confines of tiers in order to be successful @ the tournament level and this is one of the few games ever made to allow 99% of the cast to be completely viable for tournaments and you’re saying its not as good as people make it seem? there is one word for you and its delusional
you know to actually have an opinion about a game, you actually need to play it…but hey you post on srk.com so swing for the fence.
You think I haven’t played it? Where does this thing come from that people think that emulated internet play is the only possible way that people have played a game in the 14 years its existed? Still you’re right that I don’t play it competitively and haven’t played much at all for the last several years.
The point isn’t me claiming to be an expert on the game though, but rather that fan communities follow a pattern, and really don’t see things impartially.
The thing you said about VS has been said about GG, its’ been said about Melty, its’ been said about ST, there’s always a group of dedicated fans that claim their game is perfection.
I’m not even hating on the game in any way, but your hyperbolic treatment of everything really isn’t substantive at all.
I don’t remember the year, but Xesaie used to play VS at the WOTC center in the u-district in Seattle. His play probably wasn’t as excellent as the guys that play in Japan, but he was able to hold the machine for quite a long time for a couple tokens.
Pro Tip: It’s actually possible for an informed opinion to disagree with another informed opinion.
As for the OP, I would love to see a new OMF:2097, Primal Rage, or even a Zero Divide.
I’d be all about another OMF: 2097 (not that new shit) or Weaponlord. Was Zero Divide a fighting game or a robot customization game on the PS1? My memory is getting fuzzy.
Zero Divide were the ones on the PSX with nonhumanoid robots and armor that blew off yeah.

I don’t think high level play ever existed, and of course '90s polys don’t age well, but it seemed really really great at the time, and is something that we don’t really have the equivalent of now.
also, I remember the damn round cat being cheap

Then.Why.Arent.They.Playing.On.GGPO.
Well I’m only speculating, but many many people don’t know about it, and it doesn’t have the critical mass of players to draw people in. Also most people just don’t actually care about a game like VS. Also, forgive me being a bit unclear, ‘competition’ in this case doesn’t necessarily mean playing really excellent players, but rather playing a wide variety of players at a wide variety of skill levels. Most people wanna be able to have at least some progress and most people get bored playing the same 5-6 people all the time.
That’s the catch-22, a game needs to be popular enough to get a big enough pool of players to have more people play it in order to get popular enough for people to play it. (redundancy intentional)
And that’s where reboots or a really hyped re-release can be useful.
I’d love to see someone make a decent Voltage Fighter: Gowkaiser, sure the game was crap, but I like a few of the character designs. Aside from that, yeah, new SS would be amazing.
Rise of the Robots
lol liar, you so don’t actually want that remade. “What do you mean the characters can only face one way?!”
