Well perhaps, but those punches lock you down when you are close, fake fireball can keep you stuck far away and you have to move foward or jump. Not the best situation.
Still it has no hitting frames, it shouldn’t be putting me in guard status, I understand the concept, but its like my character is falling for the fake even if I just want to back up a little and have no intention of moving foward at him.
I’ve talked about this with Megaman I don’t know how many times, but fake FB is the single best new move in HDR. We said this what, 8 months ago now? I would’ve liked to see some top Japanese players messing around with it to see what they could have come up with, but even in the hands of an average player like me it does a ton of damage.
Yeah, I was going to mention how it can factor in to mixups. As a Cammy player it doesn’t phase me much because I’m walking forward regardless, but hell sometimes it causes a split-second delay when I get defensive. It must also be a pain for characters with poor inside defense, who jump at Ryu and then get SRK’ed, only to be crossed-up hard. That’s all a Ryu player needs, really. Ryu may not be #1 tier-wise but he honestly has tools to win any match.
Ya dude, you started getting extra good in the Ryu vs. Honda match when you started using that evil, evil move.
This is why theory fighter doesnt work. But I’ll play this game for a little bit because I’m at work and I hate working on a Saturday. Plus maybe you’ll learn a little more about Honda.
A) 9/10 times you wont have a charge because you’re chasing him down and attempting to safely negotiate fireballs.
B) 1/30 times you will actually be at the right range for jab torpedo to work.
Basically jab torpedo didn’t give him much help in the fireball war. Trading, unless it’s a very well timed sweep gets you nothing but pushed back out.
So predict the fireball and jump in? What do I look like Daigo? Me and every other non-robot would eat a :hp: SRK, cr.:hk:, cr.:mk: XX Super, Super, or whatever on reaction.
This is the whole reason the fake is so fucking good. At least against Honda.
Right. That’s exactly my point. You posted a pic showing how to safely jump over fireballs. But you can’t do that when you’re in close. That’s what makes it tricky.
if honda goes through a fireball with jab torpedo the animation(jab headbutt) ends right as the firball disappears/honda touches the fireball(like if dhalsims yoga flame hits someone)
sounds like it could help a bit in fireball MUs without making him better vs non-fireball characters…
I agree with Coth. Torpedo being safe on block is what hurts non fireball characters vs Honda, like Zangief and Cammy. Not even Fei, with his new long range Fierce Rekka, can catch Honda after a blocked Torpedo, not even as a reversal. It’s too fucking good. That and stored Oichio more than anything else.
I think what Honda needs vs fireball characters is the j.Short tripguard that SHOULD’VE worked properly. It’s only good vs mid range sweeps, but at max range, it’s crap. He still gets tripped. For whatever reason, it doesn’t work the way it was supposed to.
Honda’s balancing is crucial to the overall balance of the game, simply because he gives the low tier such a hard time and gets crapped on by fireballers. It’s STILL the same story as Classic ST, and I was hoping that the Remix changes would’ve balanced him out, but sadly no.

I agree with most of this. I’m skeptical about the unsafe on block Torpedo… But I totally agree with stored Ochio, that can go.

I even tried hp rekka > mp rekka, and HONDA CAN REVERSE THE SECOND REKKA WITH A TORPEDO! :annoy:
@tripguard, it doesn’t look like sirlin wanted to commit to a full blown trip guard, he would have just half assed one anyways if he had given one to fei or cammy.
I know you are, but lets talk about a character or two, that has trouble against fireballers + honda. They need something to deal with either fireballers or honda.
