Compared to other DP’s, Hawk’s DP does have some lousy priority (I guess the range can make up for it though). A Hurricane Kick beats it. Hell I’ve gotten Jab’d out of it before. Go try it for yourself.
After that night though, I’m pretty much done saying anything to Sirlin. He’s dead set on his changes (although I know quiet a few experts who strongly disagree with a number of them). Correct me if I’m wrong Fatboy, but didn’t you say Sirlin brushed off Cole’s suggestions? Hell, Sirlin even said it himself that he though Choi was stupid for suggesting Honda’s Jab Headbutt go through fireballs.
Point is is that Sirlin is a little too arrogant sometimes, and better care could have been taken with some people (I.E. Hawk, arguably Fei, AKUMA,).
Sirlin admitted that Akuma essentially wasn’t playtested enough and that he should be nerfed.
Sirlin said Choi was stupid for the fireball idea because no one has ever done that for honda, in any iteration of Street Fighter (super doesn’t count). Even so, in its current incarnation it turned out to not be that much of a deal anyway.
He can’t appease everyone. He did what he though was the best he could with the resources he had.
Whether you agree or disagree with Sirlin’s changes to the game, I think it’s important to acknowledge that HDR has reinvigorated the player-base and has introduced new players to Super Turbo; he was part of that development, and for that alone, we should be thankful. I’m not suggesting we kiss his ass or grovel at his feet, but still, the tone that some people take is outright hostile which makes little sense and does not foster constructive discussion.
No he made Fie worst because in the end all the tweaks resulted in a top tier version of Fielong, I know the CW trap was annoying in Vanilla ST but Sirlin wasn’t really a Fielong master to think that just adding recovery to the forward/Roundhouse CW was about enough.
But I guess Sirlin had to put something extra for everyone, Ryu’s fake FB is an example of bad balance ideas, simply not needed the FB game was already solid just because someone had problems faking against Dhalsim with a standing short or standing strong doesn’t mean it’s right, good Sims still win !
The only characters Sirlin did right are Guile and Ken imo, the rest are either powered-up or downgraded versions.
Btw, I think Remix Akuma breaks the game apart worst than Vanilla ST Akuma, simply because of his huge hit boxes on everything. !
100% agreed. No matter what changes were made there would always be some people unhappy with how some character was nerfed/buffed/whatever.There will never be a perfectly balanced street fighter game, it’s just unreasonable to hope for it, but i honestly think that HDR is the closest we’ve ever had.
Let’s face it, some of the stuff in ST was just ridiculous, buggy shit that was overlooked by the original developers and eventually worked it’s way into the high end tactics for the game as players started to learn how to use & abuse it.While some of it remains, most of that crap has been fixed in HDR which IMO is a good thing.
I would have liked some of the more controversial balancing nerfs such as t.hawk’s dive, chun’s super, most of feilong’s shit to have had more of a concensus among a wider community of top players before sirlin made drastic sweeping changes (hawk dive), but i still think there were far more good than bad changes, and i honestly prefer HDR to ST in terms of overall balance, all things considered…
(but maybe that’s cos my main didn’t get savagely nerfed like the people who are doing most of the complaining  )
Nah. ST Akuma can’t be dizzied and can 100% lock-down people with red fireball. His air fireball at mid-screen is also way better. HDR Akuma is too good. ST Akuma is ricoculous.
LOL! Those changes would totally make him a monster!
I honestly think Fei is really good in HDR. He’s also annoying as hell to fight against. Fei’s only real problems have to do with his design vs certain other characters(ex. Honda). Thing is, other people(ex. Cammy) have those same problems. The best way to fix those match-ups would be to fix the other character, not to give Fei a ridiculous set of upgrades that wouldn’t even really help that much in his bad match-ups.
BTW, I’m not trying to single you out Evo, but there’s a lot posts that seem a bit too biased in this thread…IMO.
I think this would only be fair if you gave blanka invincible startup on all his special moves performed from neutral for about 10 frames, and made his super an invincible start up 3 second long mode that
i) freezes the opponent if they’re not in blocking state when the super starts up
ii) creates a shadow that will mimic blanka for the entire super
iii) reduces all the recovery on all his moves to 0
iv) allows him to chain his normals into themselves as many as 4 times
v) temporarily increases the max # of juggle hits to 99 until his super ends
