Realistic changes that can save SFxT?

Sometimes I catch myself trying to Actually advancing guard with all the stupidly long block strings that some characters have… -__ -

Idk I am probably just not use to it yet but now it is harder to read a throw to tech it cause if you are JUST out of range and you think you are gonna get thrown and you wiff a grab you get punished… I feel like tick throws are mixups now… I use to be able to read throws and tech accordingly, I never crouch tech either… maybe it would be better if for the throws to be fwd+H if the throws are gonna be short range. possibly make it mash proof like that kick move king has… you can’t mash H(P or K, I forget, or the second half of the move won’t come out so if you try to mash throw nothing happens. just putting ideas out there, stuff to think about, if you think it isn’t a good idea I would like to hear thoughts on why that wouldn’t be good.

I just checked. My mistake, 200 vitality. VF5vC; I cannot say whether or not that is the same for VF5R or VF5FS, as I have not played them. That is still 5% damage off a single jab, compared to 3% to one of two opponents.

Probably more important is the damage and pacing. With Eileen (light-hitting character) I was typically doing 30% damage combos off a jab-confirm, and I am a bad player. In SFxT, an infinite combo does around 60% damage to a single character, of which some can be regenerated if they can tag out. In addition, VF has a ring-out situation for 100% `damage’, of which SFxT has no comparison.

I have watched plenty of matches involving high level players (some of which where online matches using offensive gems) playing an aggressive game that still timed-out. The critical aspect seems to be tagging out. If you can prevent your opponent from tagging out, you can drop them in no time; if you cannot, the match can drag on and on.

I stopped caring when you factored in Infinite combos…so i’ll let someone else deal with this… >_>’

I’m not notable in the slightest (meaning take what I say with a mountain of salt), but as mainly a Tekken player I have very few - if any - with the gameplay.

Personally, I’m just taking it as it is, learning what I can and what this game’s particular system is about.

So, the fact that damage scaling/max hits limits combos to approximately 60% is irrelevant? Once people come up with better combos/use gems better, the damage scaling will suddenly become irrelevant? In my opinion, the combos high level players are using are close to the best they will get (not quite, but close), with or without gems to factor in. Resets are what I believe will be the key to MvC-style touch-of-death combos. At the moment, you deliver 50% damage, they then go defensive, run, and likely tag-out. Lets say they were stupid and raw-tagged at a bad time, giving you another free 50% damage on the character in. You now have a character at 50% and another who has regenerated to, say, 60%. The defensive/footsies game continues, possibly now swinging the other direction leaving both sides in a similar situation. This takes a lot of time. With resets, we could see someone knock off 50%, reset, deliver another 40%+, all off a single error.

VF5 to VF5R is more like transitioning from MvC3 to UMvC3. Combos may no longer work, move properties may be different. It takes a little time to adjust and is exactly what anyone should expect. This is a completely different game. This is not Super Street Fighter IV Hyper Tekken Edition: it is a whole new game with new mechanics. Anyone who expected otherwise was an idiot (or has an exceptionally low opinion of Capcom). As such, you need to come in from the very beginning with a mindset of learning from the ground up. This is not a simple case of trying what used to work and suddenly realising things are different, it is a case of looking at what we have in front of us and seeing that things are just a little off.

Fuck comeback mechanics… It takes away from a true comeback and is why I don’t like the majority of capcom fighters these days.

The important part is highlighted. I wish people wouldn’t treat this game like SF4 or expect it to play like SF4, because it isn’t. Also, I feel people should try to find solid solutions to their problems, instead of moaning. If you know your opponent is going to frame trap with lights, then surely your medium attack can stop him from being in that position. Or if you know you opponent is going to attempt to cross you can’t you neutral jump? People need to spend a lot more time in the lab and realise that this game has so much potential, and untapped depth, if you would just give it a chance.

What I will agree with is false advertising and the sound issues, those are things that should be discussed with Capcom. As for not being unable to stop a cross up or time outs? I’ll quote Nova on this “really I mean really?”

biggest problem so far:

throws: needs to be faster. at least 2 frames faster

timer: needs to be longer, at least 20% longer

I think increasing walkspeeds in capcom fighters are long over due.

I’ve seen many people here say that we shouldn’t be criticizing the balance and gameplay in SFxT yet. But wait, isn’t that the topic of this thread? Why are you even posting on this thread then? For some reason, some people get off trying to tell others what they can and can not say. Mainly children and religious people. No, it’s not too early to dislike the entire game, parts of the game, or certain aspects of the game.Opinions are free from authority.

If your opinion is that it’s too early to discuss any of these things, then you’re the one who should refrain from doing so…

dude there are smart opinions and there are dumb opinions. 90% of the opinions in this thread are dumb opinions.

Its my opinion that all white nikkaz should be raped by the booty warrior… no water

guess what… its free from authority. AYooooooooo

Better than it being nobodies favorite game.

Not saying anyone is right or wrong in their complaints, but you don’t see alot of people defending this game like you do with SF4 or MvC3. Admittedly, the game is very new.

sf4 is somebody’s favorite game???

Get my my pitchfork and torches

Not mine, but it is somebodies. Lots of people really like that game.

My point is, if the game doesn’t appeal to anyone… then what good is it?

Thats where ur wrong.

It appeals to me… way more than sf4.

While I don’t think I could put it as… eloquently as Kellogz did (my caps lock key won’t allow me :razzy:)… I agree with the sentiment.

I’m honestly very surprised that in a game where time outs are admittedly at least somewhat of a problem as well as health regeneration, anyone wants safer tag-outs. That seems extremely counter-intuitive. If anything, not being able to raw tag or even safely tag with impunity is a reward for the offensive player who can keep the opponent’s point character locked down.

Safer tags would make things much worse when combined with the already safe rolls.

On the flip side of that, I don’t like the idea of snapbacks being implemented either, considering that if one character dies, you lose, and there are very few opportunities to set up ways to tag back out without meter (which again, seems fine to me).

Iono’, just my thoughts on it.

As for the overall topic though… I hardly see the game as needing “saving” at only two weeks old (younger when the thread was started). Balance tweaks? Fixes? Sure. Saving? Eh… we should probably let the baby learn to walk first.

sf4 is my favorite game. its NOT a game that i think is without its flaws. EVERY fighting game ive ever played has its flaws.
that having been said, valle has gone on the record as sf4 being one of his favorite fighting games of all time. its a good game that is flawed… like mvc2,mvc3,A3,3s,cvs2, etc etc

it remains to be seen whether sfxt is a good, but flawed, game as well. the only thing im sure of is that no matter what there WILL be people who love it… cause there are people that love even the shittiest games out. there are always people like that. whether the masses will accept sfxt is just something that will take time to figure out. i think this game might take a back seat to sf4 and mvc3 if it remains as is… but i could be wrong. anywho there are patches and no reason why the game has to remain as is, though i dont think patcing will address many of the games glaring detractors.
