Rashid General Thread: Desert Storm - second new character

I’d definitely agree he’s mid tier, but the problem being I feel no one in the game is bad, so mid tier might technically be bottom tier. I mean, I think he’s in the same boat as FANG; very unique play style, no one’s really sure how to play them, could end up going either way. There’s a few notable contenders for the very top, but everyone is strong. I honestly think we’ll get S, A and B tiers and that’s it, there’s no one that I can think that would qualify for Dan tier.

If bottom tier is mid tier, then bottom tier isn’t really a bad place to be in.

It will be interesting to see how the DLC characters fit into the roster, and how and how often Capcom will throw out balance patches.

Given the horrendous feedback on both netplay and solo play, I think their attention is focused on anything but balance right now. Chun feels absolutely bonkers to me right now.

He should be played like El Fuerte… aka severely disadvantaged footsies game until you land a hit and then you flow chart randomness.

Problem with his wall jump on opponents side is that he can’t do anything afterwards until he lands. At that point, he’s so far away from the corner that even if you bait a reversal, the opponent has no fear of your pressure.

I also am still in the camp that he is amongst the worst if not the worst character. Only one I feel MIGHT be worse is R. Mika.

Now maybe against Chun but he isnt at a severe disadvantage against most of the cast in footsies. Rashid certainly has stronger footsies than Fuerte and not as many tools to make the opponent guess. Fuerte had slide, tortilla,EX Q bomb, and a splash that could hit on either side. If you try to throw out random specials like Fuerte you will get punished real quick. With his low damage youre gonna be at a huge disadvantage too.

After a few games this evening a few things to note;

For a pressure / rushdown character, Rashid’s throw range is dreadful. It would be amazing if you could confirm a blocked st.mp, Take a tiny step forward and throw, but you’re way out of range. Sigh. St.lk works as a tick throw pretty well, but because it doesn’t combo into anything (I think?) You have to know you’re gonna throw. That’s fine if you’re doing it on their wake up, but hit confirming a jump in can be tricky.

Secondly, Rashid has insane comeback potential, online at least. Landing an Eagle Spike combo then another combo or a throw will leave a 1000 stun character with one hit left to stun, so an overhead or low will do it. Then a big stun combo and that’s almost the round. If you didn’t use your VT yet, you’re in a good position to win.

You can use s.LK for frame traps. It’s +2 on block, 3f start-up, and on COUNTER-hit, it does combo into s.MP, so you can go into qcb+KK etc. from there, to get actual consequential damage.

Use a close up (blocked) cr.Mp for frame trap into throw, +1 on block

I’ve found that using s.lk, throw VS s.lk, s. HP xx cancel into EX tornado or EX eagle spike works well as a throw/crush counter mixup. If they block you can either go for the roll, neutral jump mixup if you do tornado or fly to the other side of the screen (I think safely?) with EX eagle.

So I found out that you can ultra through a blocked MK into V Trigger… which eliminates a majority of my gameplan. This is depressing.

Sadly… True… But, I think you can cancel the v trigger to your critical art super. But yeah, it’s quite disappointing

Once people default to pressing jab after mixer 5HK 6MP good luck Rashid players at least you have the best theme

That’s why you don’t rely on those for pressure or you do an EX twister because fuck it.

5Hk and 6MP should be 0 or +1 on block he does no damage why can’t he have a forward moving normal that isn’t negative?

Just got to stage 48 on hard survival and lost to F.A.N.G. I’m so salty, I almost went Sandford Kelly on my stick haha. For anyone having trouble, just spam hk.eagle spike. If they block it jump back hk and try again. They’ll never punish it. Just watch out for fireball characters.

EH has Rashid as mid tier. Good luck getting Capcom’s attention if they focus on casual players. They also have FANG near the bottom half. Yay for more poison…

Capcom has already said if everything goes according to plan they wont do a balance patch until after Capcom Cup. Good to let the game breathe, not so good for Rashid.

I feel like he just has too many small problems that add up to him being a very mediocre character. Without good damage you would think you can get some off counterhits but even thats difficult. His st.MP and cr.HP leave you too far to counterhit half the time and if youre in range youre lucky to get cr.MK which only gets you QCB LK. Same with cancelling into v-trigger on hit, if youre in range you only get a divekick without spending meter and even with meter it’s not very much damage. If you want to mix up with the v-trigger you better hope they dont quickrise or touch the tornado and go into blockstun because its instantly gone. One of the most irritating things is his projectile being so bad, almost 20 frame startup and 40 frame recovery. With only heavy and EX being cancellable. Unless theyre in the corner the tornado will fly off into the sunset while the opponent mashes jab to hit you out of your frame trap because the roll is so slow too.

I really like the character and was having a lot of fun playing him but you can get the same reward for half the effort with most of the cast. It will be exhausting playing this character once people realize when to push buttons against him.

5HK makes some sense seeing as it’s a Crush Counter. I agree about 6MP, very little of consequence happens when you hit it, it’s small damage and the second hit can’t be cancelled into anything (not even V-trigger, iirc?), so 0 seems sensible. They might not want do +1 though.

End combos with qcf punch not qcb kick.

Yes the fireballs are a joke so far. I am hard pressed to find much use with them due to their horrible frame data and angle. I have had a few where I think I am at the correct range only for it to miss their crouching hit-box by what seems to be a pixel and see it pass through their face/shoulder. I rarely use it outside of certain situations.

It also seems I have to guess that many more times than everyone else since the damage from errant buttons is a joke. Karin happens to hit a mp then can convert to a full combo. I hit using a mp outside close range and with its huge push-back nothing else will connect outside of a buffered eagle.

People let me get away with too many spinners since they do not realise it is -2. I also find his st.lk way too stubby.

So you want him to have endless pressure strings?

Some of you guys need to chill on this -2 nonsense. A lot of characters are -2 on shit and can be punished for mashing buttons all the time. This isn’t a Rashid exclusive trait. He has solid mid-range buttons and doesn’t have to resort to playing up in your face 100% of the time. He isn’t a KD RUSH THAT MOTHER FUCKING SHIT DOWN kind of character. Stop playing him that way.
